Thread: Do you barter?
The thread about pricing your harvests got me thinking about bartering in the game, but I didn't want to impose on that string. Do any of you barter your resources more than you sell?
Being a ranger/carbineer/medic I'm pretty self-sufficient. The only resources I really need from anyone else are water (stim pack component), steel (camps), and an inorganic (stim packs). I won't mentionthe flora componentfor camo kits because we won't need those shortly. Instead of going to the bazzar for these items, I trade organics for them.
I have a network of IRL friends who play and some people I've met in the game who have agreed to share resources. Just the other day, I worked out a deal with a bio-engineer who will make a rancor for me down the road if I supply her with a steady supply of quality meats.
I have a friend who is an architect. I help her keep up her harvesters and supply her with organics and she makes free houses for me.
With my own personal use, I really don't have anything left. I was just curious to see if anyone else barters more than they sell or buy.
Yep!
A BE friend gets most of my meat in return for pet stims. A tailor friend knows to just ask for any hides, and she keeps me stocked in clothes. Anytime there is a medic in a hunting group, they'll get herb meat.
I enjoy bartering -- and it seems very much in-line with role playing a ranger (which I tend to do).
I barter anything and everything, and/or try for future discounts also.
The only thing I have been paying for lately is weapons. If I get enough metal saved up I may not have to pay for those, will "donate" some for free weapons... and the beat goes on.
Everybody needs something, meat, hides, bone, metal... find out what it is and get it.
I was talking to other people last nite, notably a BH. He runs missions and has maybe 100k in the bank, and was bragging about it. I have 400k, and don't leave the planet unless it's to go hunting. So who is better off?Oh yeah, the trip we were on, I got a ton (2k actually) of hides to sell. The BH can't be "bothered" with harvesting, it's beneath him... haha on him
And I was healing his pet with stims I get free... and he paid me for it.

Some people dont know how to barter, when i'm asked what i want for my harvested resource, i either get sure, not a chance. Never got a single offer for another price.

Actually the concept you aredescribing is called haggling. ![]()
Bartering is the exchange of goods of equivalent value, without the use of currency.
There is a lot of haggling in a barter, as there is no defined price for the goods, but they are different concepts.
i don't really barter all that much.
don't really *need* weapons or armor. on rare occasion i might buy 2 or 3 vk's to replace a worn out one and get a good slice, but that's not very much money. i don't wear armor, although i'll get a helmet for pvp later on. once in a great while i'll buy a crate of stims, but i get those from a friend who cuts me a deal. the only thing i really consume on a regular basis is clothes
and i cut my tailor rediculous deals on very high quantities of hide and get alot of free/dirt cheap clothes out of it ![]()
I barter a fair amount. I get many of my weapons at discount since I often supply the WS with metal from my harveters, or I supply meat to a variety of medics/doctors in lieu of heals/meds etc. I also supply hides for clothes and/or minor armor needs. I haggle as well from time to time... A lot of the time, I will sell my stuff, only to hand them back the money later on.... I almost feel like an exchange broker at times. I like this aspect though.. instead of always buying stuff, and never interacting, I am able to make legitimate professional relationships for future and current needs. I would want it no other way. I really would prefer to NOT be 100% self-suffucient....
