Thread: Surveying for Rangers.
I've been thinking about this, we just have to few points to go around if you want to be able to do many things.
And since Rangers are masters of the wilderness, would it be such a far fetched thing, that we could discover metal resources etc out in the wilderness?
As for the few skill points, I am a ranger, medic, bounty hunter combo. There is still plenty of skill points after gettting ranger to do other things.
The only things that gets me regarding artisian vs ranger, is that they have the ability to find berries (flora) and rangers, masters of the wild, can't. But I am not going to make that an arguement. The Devs did it how they wanted to do it.
Gotta agree with Ilof, even with the spelling from hell.
Just cause we wander the wilds, where does it say we know iron from steel from silly putty? I gave up my Artisan skills, and while sometimes I regret it, I wait til I solo some big beastie and laff cuz I put those pts into medic and pistoleer. I feel better then. There is a valid arguement about some plants we should be able to find for self first aid, but I think thats what forage does.
Leave surveying to the Artisans. While some may macro camp, mostof themmacro sample/survey...boring boring boring.

But that bell has been rung.
Plus what's the point of surveying Metals if you can't build anything with them, unless you're going to use it as money maker and be a miner, but trust me unless you have harvestors it's not really worth it.
Well, my take on Ranger is that the profession is part naturalist and should be able to identify sedimentary strata, gemstones, etc. Unfortunately, if that's your view of what a Ranger is, you have to look for it in the Artisan branch (which seems an odd place for it imo).
And to me, the point of surveying is the millions of credits in business I've done.![]()
Why wouldn't a ranger get surveying? Make some money selling hide/meat, buy a few heavies, and then use our wilderness skills to harv where others can't or won't go. Worked for me, as I'll soon have over 150k of the new Polysteel Copper on Radiant to store away for a bad shift. And it's not like it takes a lot of time. While it was collecting I've also been hunting a great meat I found. So basically I'm making money off of two different things at once. Not to mention the constant need for Dantooine berries. That's a rough planet that most miner-types won't travel across to find a high % spot. If you've got the free skill points and want some big extra money, I highly recommend doing this.

Doh. Seems I misread the post as if they asked if they should start surveying/harvesting for minerals. My bad folks. Still, it is a good way to make some bank.
