Thread: Rangers = Krayt Cookies?
Just a day or two ago, out hunting Krayt dragons with some other players I think I stumbled onto something. Ok, so this is more of a humor post, but I am kinda interested if anyone else has had similar experiences. Anyways, back to my story. A group of 6 players, 2 grauls, and 2 AT-ST's (not part of our group) were standing approx. 48m from the Krayt lair aswe were all waiting for it to spawn another dragon. Between me and the lair are the 2 AT-ST's and the 2 Grauls, and no less than 3 of the other players........then there's me, the only Master Ranger in the area at the time. I proceed to tell everyone (including those with other groups) that given the amount of time since the last dragon died that it might be wise for all of us to back off the lair before we get insta-aggroed by the next dragon. Everyone is like ..."blah....it will aggro the pets or the AT-ST's first, we aren't worried". So Iback off and make sure there are quite a few players and such between me and the lair. POOF......dragon spawns, Insta-aggroed on ........guess who? Not any of the pets, not even on the 3 other players closer to the lair (NO ONE was using maskscent at the time either).........but instead I wind up ko'ed in an instant. Why did I get singled out when I wasn't even the closest? Krayts have a strange craving for Rangers as part of a balanced diet? Luckily though the others started fighting quick enough that I didn't get db'ed. So after I stood back up, I told everyone......."See, told ya we'ed get aggroed before we knew what was coming". Now you might say, "Hahaha, funny situation, but you were just a bit unlucky at that time". But I have to tell you that not more than 10 minutes later the same exact thing happened......again. I wasn't even remotely the closest to the dragon lair, but some how I was the target of the krayts spawn's aggro instantly. So some of the guys in the area that had witnessed both instances started commenting on noting to not stand next to a Ranger when staking out a Krayt lair as it could be harmful to their health.
Oh, and if you want to die in a hurry from a Krayt about 90 meters away, just try /maskscent or /conceal. Then boom....the dragon aggros from that distance and warps to your location and you are toast. But without using either of those skills, you can get within 52m (closest I actually dared to try) and the Krayt doesn't pay any attention to you, at all. I've never had /maskscent or /conceal do anything but aggro Krayts from almost 90m, but yet without usingthem I'm able to get closer than 60m..........something is outta whack there.
I have a list of animals that I am like candy to.
Seething Bols, Kimos, Krayts, Pubams, Kreetles (especially the baby kreetles), Sentry Spiders, Voritors, Baz Nitches, and the list keeps growing.
My theory is that the animal instinctively knows that I am a Ranger and sees me, and not the biggest guns, as the primary threat.
There are planets my friends do not go to because they believe that everything is out to get them.
lol
Kunga hunters on Dantooine now hate me. They must use jungle drums or something to let their buddies know I just got in, as they line up outside the gates of the outpost waiting on me. All because I helped a group mate who accidentally fired on them. Oh well, decent XP that I don't really need.
And let us not forget the Rasps. They follow me from planet to planet, waiting for me too. The Kunga have the decency to stay on Dantooine... not the Rasps. I really hate Rasps, tho the Kunga are becoming a close second.
JB
even paranoids have enemies
I wonder if there's code in the creature AI that will check each target then aggro thebiggest threat first. Remember that us Rangers' have creature to hit bonuses that might flag us as a bigger threat (with our trusty cdef pistols), even when there is a line of AT-ST's and master commando's standing beside us...

I've only been on a Krayt hunt once, I ended up with a pick up group that invited me when I arrived at Entha. I figured what the heck, sounds like fun and proceeded with a group of 20 into the desert.
We arrive, other groups are there as well and the chaos begins. It seems the group I was in didn't care about camp rights and began killing anything that moved regardless of who was there first. So there were maybe 50-60 people & pets of all classes, BH's CH's Commandos a pleanty, Grauls, a rancor or two, heavy hitters galore.
I have low end Pistoleer skills. No pet out, laging like crazy and not even using specials, just plinking away at max distance while others climb on the krayt's back, belly, through it, above it, etc.
Krayt B-lines for me. I die. I get revived. I wait for the sickness to leave. I start plinking again, without specials, max distance. 30 seconds later. I'm dead again.
Krayt dies. I get maybe 300xp which means I did very little damage. Yet I was a danger enough to kill twice.
Next Krayt shows up, chaos begins again. Who dies? Yup, me. I ended up leaving the group and disappearing into the desert because I disagreed with the KSing that was going on, but, I'll never forget how my little FWG5 drew aggro away from all the bounty hunters and commandos.
Now I know it was because I'm a Ranger.
Kimogila's seem to like Ranger snacksas well, I was hunting them on Lok last night and they would warp right over the 3 probot droids, ignore the other 2 players and straight onto me. Once there is no 'Ranger threat' they go about the business of dispatching the rest of the group. Even hada time when the other players drew kimo away from me before the db, then after everybody else was incap'd or db'd the kimo came back to my corpse and sat down on it like it was making sure the Ranger doesn't get up again.
Guess it's time to start wearing armour to survive that first hit from the 90m teleporting kimogila's lol.

Master Ranger
Solo runs through rough areas as a master ranger, I don't use any camo. Bad things that pop it do so from a distance and warp on top of me. Little things that don't matter, I just keep running anway and maybe fire off a threaten shot or snare trap. /shrug
Grouped? Even more useless. Not all of my group has it and high-level spawns pop it anyway. And even if a high-level spawn pops the camo, it's probably a mob we are hunting.
I have not tried using camo/maskscent to pull though. That may be it's only benefit right now. Again, I know this under review for us so the future will show us some better uses.
