Thread: Planet-Specific and Generic Camps

I think it would be cool if Rangers could craft and use a planet-specific version of each level of camp.

These camps would require organic resources from the planet it's specific to, and would take on a visual appearance in line with the planet in question. They would offer some specific bonus or be more effective for the planet they're used on, including healing bonuses, or repelling creatures from the planet in question.

There would still be generic camps that you could craft and use on any planet, but they would not be as effective and would look boring and generic.

I don't know about that one. I usually hunt for general stuff for crafting traps and camps on Tat or Corellia, go to other planets to hunt for big game, (Meat & Specific hides). So if that was the case I would have to get more hunting in on all the planets. Could be good and Bad.

I have a feeling that your gonna need a fire extinguisher for this thread soon.

I hope not. The idea is not to take anything away, to leave the current camps as they are (as generics), but to add extra content that makes things more interesting and fun.

My first question is: Would the area/ planet specific camps have any bonuses to the planet that they are on. What would be the benefit of that camp other than asthetic?

Secondly, If all i have is resources from Tatooine, will I be able to set my desert tent up in Naboo or Dathomir....or Lok?

If the effect is cosmetic, then cool I am all for that, but in my opinion, lets make the camps that we have work first, then address the add-on issue and then apply some paint to the whole structure.

This is not a flame, I applaud your thoughts and ideas to keep the Ranger Board fresh, and if there are some great benefits that you can come up with to justify the specificity of the resources, then great....

Thanks for the idea.

I definitely thing that there should be some specific bonuses that the different specific camps offer over the generic ones. The rationale being that if they're built from local materials to local specifications, they will offer local bonuses.

They should only be able to be used on the planet they're specific to.

But yeah I totally agree let's get the ones we have now working right first. This was just a wild idea I got while on Dathomir last night.

I have in my mind's eye the kind of camo the military drapes over its tents and equipment in the field. I have spent my time out in desert and tropical climates, and to be able to drape your location with a camo netting would be very cool..

Here is my idea....
In the wayfaring line where we make our camo kits, we can also make camo netting that will fit as an addon to our camps. Make the First few levels starter planets...just like the camo kits. Then when we create a camp, there is an optional box to place a crafted camo netting that is planet specific....And will provide a mega-plus for defenses for critters in the area.

The tents dont change, we just drape them. This may also be the way to prevent ininvited people into the tent.

Maybe this is too much too soon...just an idea

No flame... ok, y'all get back in your chairs.

This idea has merit. There can be camps and "Camps". The current camps will work anyplace, and can be made of whatever or a mix of whatever. But if you are on Corellia, and have all Corellian material, your camps...and I assume we are talking the FB and HTFB here, not the lower end, will take on a "planetary flavor"... like the flags will be the flags of that planet, and the colors the same as the flag. More lights for the darker places, more shelter for the rainy ones. Maybe a "planetary" camp will repel creatures just a wee bit better.

What the hey, somewhere down the road, this is worth looking into...

"Make the First few levels starter planets...just like the camo kits. "

Actually, rather than 10 more different schematics...

  • How abouts a single optional slot in the existing camp schematics that would take a camo kit as a component?

  • The optional slot could be named camoflauge netting or some such.

We already have planet specific camo kits... Possibly we could use them to produce planet specific camps.

  • As stated in the previous posts, these camps would havean improved repel creature bonus if used on the appropriate planet.

I like the concept... Now ifthey couldget the regular creature repeling working, we could be in business.

Good Idea Nrass, take the next 30 seconds as a free vacation.

Personally, I hate camo nets, having pitched way too many in the Army. But as an addon to our camps it's a great idea. Then, if/when the SLs get to arm our camps, and the HTFB does not disband when I leave to go pee, we got us a mini-firebase. Perfect for protraced missions in one area, or as a central base of operations for a raid.

I really want the FB or HTFB to be semi-permanent, this idea would be a perfect add on.

Now THAT's a good idea--a perfect modification to what I came up with originally. Add an optional component to some camps (perhaps just the FB and HTFB) that takes a Camo Kit! This serves the need of making the camp planet-specific and adds the ability to repel aggros on the planet in question.

I'd really like to see the camps look somehow thematic for the planet in question too, though I realize that would be a bit of work for the art team.

Is that enough? Or, taking the idea further, could we add *more* optional component slots besides just the one for the Camo Kit, to add other special effects? Perhaps a slot that takes a CDEF Pistol that adds little point defense guns to the camp... or a slot that takes a survey tool, to give the camp rudimentary flora harvesting capabilities, for harvesting materials for making camo kits? Or a slot that takes some kind of new craftable mission terminal device, to put a hunting (creature destroy) or survey or explore mission terminal into the camp? Or a slot that takes a stack of Stims, to boost the regenerative capabilities of the camp? Just some random ideas...
