Thread: Why Stalking Detection?

I have read the TC notes and have played my master ranger on Starsider a great deal lately in an effort to understand the reasoning behind "Detecting Stalker". I can find no reason for this and am worried that we are "still" recieving useless amenities that do not justify skill point allocation.

The fact is that anyone with CTRL-M (overhead map) can tell if a mob is stalking them - 100% accurately. Why in the world do I need yet another /UselessCommand button for that?

Someone enlighten me here please. I can only see this as another filler that is not worth the dev-teams effort nor my skill points.

I agree very few mobs actually stalk and when they do it is very easy to tell they are if you pay attention. I also think maybe stalking is bugged it used to happen all the time during beta especially on the harder planets but I have seen it happen maybe twice since live. So hopefully this new skill will bring the bug to light and stalking will become more common and then there will be a reason for us to have it.

I rarely use my overhead map when hunting, clutters up the view; so the stalking msg will help me out, for what it is worth. Yeah, I can tell on my radar when something is wandering my way, I think I am one of the few that actually pays attention to it. But hey, they threw us some bones, let's be happy they are fixing (finally) the camo sets. The stalking message will have it's uses.

"The stalking message will have it's uses."

Yes, it's a handy little message... Reminds me to put my /maskscent back on.

What I mean is that you don't need to be a ranger to see that you are being stalked. It shows right up on the overhead map. hehe.

It's a pointless skill ... again.

Please don't misunderstand. I am forever Ranger here - hehe.

I too drop the overhead map when I actually hunt but use it when I travel. I could not care less about stalkers when I hunt (saves me from pulling them anyway) and my groups are sufficiently spread out to neutralize most anything. Solo hunting is the same for me and travel in both situations shows the obvious stalkers on the overhead map.

I appreciate the bone for sure. But when players ask me if Ranger is a valid path, I still have to say no to them. There is nothing in our tree that is worth spending the points on yet (with the exception of tracking now). I can not tell someone to spend the points needed for "stalk detection" when any player can simply use the overhead map and get a better representation of where the stalking is coming from and a very good indication of possible escape routes.

I rarely post in these boards but this bone is silly and yet another waste of time that could have been spent on something that is actually important and more desireable.

I think they wanted people to see this message because it's entirely possible to be stalked by something and never even know it. In order tojustify the dev time spent onthe whole stalking AI, perhaps they felt that it was too subtle without a message.
