Thread: What do we give to Rangers without hurting CH's, Medics and Combat classes?

Some of the ideas I have heard over the last few weeks

Give rangers some sort of animal empathy, in the form of a Ranger only pet. This makes sense since Rangers are creatures of the wilderness but it hurts Creature Handlers. How can we give Rangers more control over creatures?

Give Rangers some sort of herbal lore were they can craft natural remedies, poulitces and salves to be used on various injuries. This could hurt the Medic and Doctor's. Should we get some form of minor healing abilities that make use of our forage skill? Maybe give /scavenge as an upgrade to /forage at some point in the Ranger tree and alllow us scavenge for medicinal herbs? Of course they wouldn't be as refined as the stimpacks but would allow the Ranger to make more use of his surroundings...nature.

Give Rangers some sort of Combat bonus when fighting outside of cities? Could this be in the form of more combat defense bonuses or some sort or unique Ranger weapons? Fighting a Ranger in his own natural surroundings should be something to be feared.

The extra "empathy" sounds great... going up the hunting line should give added bonuses to a hybrid Ranger/CH than say a Commando/CH or CH/Pistoleer, or... get the picture? I posted some half-thought-out ideas on this line before, but why shouldn't higher creature knowlege give some sort of bonuses to CH abillities?

Bonuses that would helpCH: Since anyone will be able to have a pet, why shouldn't Rangers have the ability to have a slightly higher pet than ancity plannerwho has not a lick of scouting skills? Maybe +1 to max pet levels and +1 to pets out for novice and +1 each for hunt1-4, and +3 for Master Ranger (and take this a step further and make non-scout pet level +7 max but master scout +15). They would require the ranger to take up CH and tame their own pets for a while or to find and pay a creature handler (my preferred route... best friend is at all 3rd level CH skills now) to tame and train the pets for them.

That was confusing after the big update... what I needed to train in to be able to tame and use a plains tusk cat (couldn't use the one I already had that day, even with +15 on a pet that showed as challenge 8 that day... then training for max pet level to +25 and still not being able to use him because I had to have max pet levels at+25 also...sooooo now I can use atusk cat or greater sludge panther at the exact same level of CH skills??? (answer is yes). I already had novice CH and CM1 and was just banking the XP so I could try to figure out what I had to have to get and use one and figured it out... but I would love to be able to untrain all CH skills and keep my Plains Tusk Cat (Greater Sludge Panther as max for a Master Ranger maybe?) and get back Survey4 and novice medic and keep advancing in rifleman (sniper shot next... hehe)

I also vote for a "retrieve" commandtrained by a CHthat would cause the pet to "drag" the corpse of the killed critter to you where you can then harvest in relative safety as long as the pet is able to get away without drawing agro... nothing like getting killed by a fuzzy jax that spawns out of nowhere while you are harvesting theresources close to the seemingly empty but truely never-ending spawnaround the lair...

Create Super Elite Hybrid Professions and give us more Skill Points. The new Super Hybrid classes would include some sort of Ranger/Creature Handler or Ranger/Doctor. :-D

Well, there's also /medicalforage already under the medic line if I remember right from when I had a lot of medical skills (gone bye bye now).

I would like to keep the Ranger class more specific and unique, not a jack-of-all trades. Right now we are unique in that we can run better, set up camps, harvest, and make traps. We have pretty good individuality here.

One thing I think we are missing is a better link to nature. You touched upon that, but I think a different direction would be better.

1. befriend animals. they fight for you for a very limited time.
2. charm animals.
3. we have small bonuses to attacking creatures. how about bonuses to defending against them?
4. how about group benefits to pets that are in our groups? like better combat skills?

Let Master or High-level Rangers choose from one of maybe three or four different pet species.

These pets will not be taimable by CH's or even seen anywhere else in the game. Excuse is, they are VERY rare creatures and only the best Rangers can track and then befriend them.

Make the creatures relatively powerful, but no where near the power of the CH Master. Maybe a level 25 creature tops.

This would prevent CH's from whining, as nobody but else gets these guys but high level Rangers, and they won't be nearly as good as anything any Intermedate CH could cook up.

I dunno. Rangers are already pretty **edit** good without the cool stuff they're about to give. I've been hunting with TK master, master cm, novice doctor, and an entertainer who's pistoleer also. I'm the ranger. We are pretty much unstoppable on Dathwhen we play as a team. The TK is also a novice CH. The goal of the game is to get teams like this going and I swear I would PAY to play with this team. No one Rambos, we have consensus on attacking / moving and it works SO SWEET. I really don't want any more ranger skills except an ability to heal BF for myself in the wild so I don't have to go to cities.

We usually hit GiantBaz Nitches for cash. Battles go pretty much like this: CH pet goes in and pulls animals. Everyone opens fire and bleeds animals when they hit pet and TK works up close. I root animals and when they're rootedthrow glowires to drop defense. TK pulls his pet back if it's getting weak and we drill animals with ranged. TK master also getting rifle through his bowcaster so he sometimes uses that. If things go wrong and it gets messy combat medic uses group heals and even revive if everythingtruly goesto Hell. He also heals our HAMs from special moves. He also diseases animals. Then when battle is done I use ranger camps. If someone has to clone I use maskscent to haul back to outpost straight through reds and then lead them back because I can probe the MOBs on the map better to find the safe route.

I guess what I'm saying is Rangers have a distinct role and it's going to get better with the new traps and things. I can't even imagine what we'll be able to take down once I set up a few bear traps and tripwires. I'll probably lay that stuff out,put friends behind huntingblind, then lure out a rancor. It'll be AWESOME.

I once asked for "bonuses" to the CH profession if a Ranger chose that. Any other addition will get the Gods of CH down on our heads the moment they hear of it. Wookies get a bonus, I would thing something like that could be given to Rangers.

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.
