Thread: Ranger shop??

I'm thinking of opening an all Ranger shop, making everything in factory crates,

all traps

all camps

all camo kits

in crates of 25,

Has anybody done this and would other scouts/rangers buy?

Save yourself the time and trouble to make all this stuff, I bought myself an factory for personal use, and know I have a ton of extra crates of stuff,

I sold a crate of 25 basic camps for 2k and a crate of High Tech FBK for 12k, do the math easy cash.

But is there a market???

My guess would be that there would be a much bigger market for scout stuff than ranger stuff, especially field base kits and high tech field base kits since you need frontiering 3 and 4 (or is it 2 and 3?), respectively, to use them. But since at least one branch of scouting is required for several different elite professions, I would think that people who don't want to advance any more in scout wouldn't have the resources built up that those going for master scout and/or master ranger would. They may want to use camps and traps and such, but because they don't care about scout xp, they probably don't care about harvesting creatures either.

On the other hand, even those that don't want anything more than the bare minimum in scouting for their desired elite profession might just be harvesting anyway so that they can make the few camps and traps they can use with it and sell the rest. Either way, I personally don't think there would be a large enough market to justify the expense of the factory, but if you already have everything to put it together, you may find it easier in the long run just to make a boat-load of crates for yourself just so you always have whatever camps and/or traps you use handy.

Who knows though, your server and the planet you play on may have very different players than what I've seen on Corellia, Corbantis.

Hmm... if I need a trap or a camp I can make one pretty quickly, with materials I have on hand. Were I not a Master, I would be crafting my butt off in camps for the xp - again no need to buy stuff.

On a smaller level, this has been tried several times, and as far as I know, met with a resounding lack of response. 25 HTFBs for 12k - who wants 25 HTFBs, or better yet, needs that many? I carry one in my pack. If I use it, I craft a replacement as soon as the first one is up.

Hope your business goes well. Good luck.

Personally, I would not buy anything - only thing I buy are stims and weapons, and sometimes clothes.

Much Luck

Hi Madness,

I have been reasonably succesful in selling factory crates of basic camps, there is a reasonable demand for thesedue tothe requirement to camp in order to call pets and vehicles. For many people it is an ease of use thing - the crates take up only one inventory slot, buy a couple of crates and that is your camping worries over for a good length of time. Also, although it is possible for these people to harvest and craft their own camps I find that many people, if they bother harvesting at all (most take missions for the creds and xp), they will be targetting a particular resource (eg Dathomirian avian meat) that they can sell at a premium later, so to harvest hide and bone just to craft some camps eats into their profits and means they have to use up valuable inventory space.

As far as traps go, I have not tried selling crates of these (I am a little unsure whether you need to have the skill to*craft* the particular trap in order to use it IYSWIM) so I only crate these things up for personal use. I can imagine that there may be a market for these, albeit smaller than the market for basic camps, due to people grinding scout/ranger for holo purposes.

A previous poster pointed out that the best market would be for scout supplies - this is absolutely true. All my saleable goods are from the scout line, any ranger goods that I create crates of are for my personal use only.

With regard to pricing, I do not know the economic situation on Intrepid, but on Eclipse a crate of 25 basic camps will go for about 2500 credits.

Hope this helps

Hiya,

we (the Gorath Antarian Rangers)have 2 vendors, one with camp crates and one with trap crates in our cities mall. Sales are not bad, last week we sold 21 basic camps, 4 hq camps, 2 htfb, and some crates of traps (i think 12, different types). We started selling just 2 weeks ago, so i would say there is a market.

We can pay all our guild buildings from the sales, and have some money left over. You won't get rich with it but it helps to pay the rent.

You can use a camp if you have the Survival skill box one below that needed to craft the camp. The imeaningful implication here is that Master Scouts can use the High Quality Camp Kit made by Novice Rangers.

All Bounty Hunters are Master Scouts. The next step of this exercise is left for the reader. :-)

IWBNI this principle meant people with no Survival at all could use Basic Camps, but that is not the case, AFAIK.

As for traps, I know that you need some level of skill in order to use them -- a Novice Scout wasn't able to use a Phec Dart I gave her -- but I don't know if you can use a trap before you have the ability to craft it. Symmetry with the above would imply a Traps II could use a Phec Dart, but I have never had the opportunity to test that hypothesis.

I would probably buy Traps in crates, as I rarely feel any particular urge to use them when I fight anymore, so I don't waste materials on them as a Master. I still make my camps by hand, but if a crate of traps were available, I'd probably use them. heh..

I actually have a little tent set up outside the city I live in, and believe it or not, I sell stuff pretty good. I sell small quantities, and for anything real large I do custom orders.

Suprising things that I have noticed are that traps sell horrible, were as camp sites sell like hotcakes (also happens on the bazaar - I had 25 camp sites sell in 3 days, were as my traps sat there for 6 days with no buyer). Also, I had many scouts buy camp sites, instead of making them themselves. Just wierd.

Hmm, that is a bit odd. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that camps use more resources than traps do. If you don't do much creature hunting, then whatever few things you do hunt will probably give you enough resources to make traps, but not camps. Also, since you need master scout to get novice bounty hunter, I imagine most bounty hunters prefer to hunt NPCs and players, but they still want the healing and pet calling abilities of camps. What kinds of camps usually sell, the lower ones or the base kits?

I think trap sales are not so hot cause many scouts/rangers, after they master the trap skills, never use a trap again. They may keep a few "emergency" traps but thats it. My last 3 charges of the phecnacine dart i had lasted for 2 month i think.

The camps that sell best are the basic camp kits cause so many players need them for calling/swapping pets/vehicles and they are cheap. HQ Camps sell ok, and HTFB only 1 or two a week.

ok call me lazy but...
Hell I'd buy crates of everything I can get Lmao.
I'd love to have a crate of every camo kit on hand without the drudgery of making them. Same with camps in HTFB and basic variety. Traps, sure lay em on me, I'll make a new hot-key page with a full line-up of them.

Now I got everythig I need and I saved all my harvesting for the wifey to make good meds, my fav BE's to make me neat stuff and maybe a little for the market (tho I hate this).

I think this will vary from case to case.

Yup, the lower level camp sites have sold the best. I might even start putting them in crates, see how that goes. Who knows, maybe it will sell better. Hopefully traps will become more usefull here soon, and I'll be selling more of those.

Thanks for all the good responses,

Just started putting together camo kits crates, Im already backordered, so I have scouts and novice Rangers collecting ressources. It can take a while to collect that, sold a dant camo crate for 20k.

Thanks for all the ideas,
