Thread: Anyone ever trap a Krayt?

Greetings!

Our guild went a-Krayt hunting last night. I was excited as I would get to use my Tracking ability for something. It truned out that they just kept spawning in the same spot (right next to a player city) so I really didn't need to use those skills.

I DID wanna see if I could get a trap to stick on the suckers. We were fighting Canyon Krayts (300k+ HAM) and after several dozen attempts, I decided it was not gonna happen. I did manage to land some sonic pulses on the Juvenile Canyon Krayts, which yielded 2000 trapping XP each (not that I need it since I'm master ranger).

SO, was I just having bad luck? Is it impossible or just very improbably to land a trap on a grown-up Krayt? If anyone has managed to do this, how much trapping XP did it yield?

I have never hunted Krayt's but I have also never been succesful in trapping high level creatures like kimogila's.. I assume it is the same for Krayt's.

I have trapped Krayts with Wire Mesh traps. so I'd imagine you could do it with other traps. You get like 2000 trapping XP for it.

I have had them stick for about 2000 on the Giants I think. Success is related to your "trapping skill" I think, and I am Master Ranger so if you can't get them to stick now, you should have better success moving up the tree.

They did stick for XP, but I don't think they lasted as long as on smaller MOBs, so they aren't that useful.

I had the same issue with Rancors as I was moving up the tree. Nothing would stick to them, and now just about everything does.. but again.. the effects are lessened so the usefulness is really not there. One trap that I think people often underestimate is the "Lep Dart" trap.

While this trap doesn't do a whole lot of damage, it will allow other special shots from weapons and pets to have a better chance of effect. I use this one and Glow-Wire against the larger MOBs and save the Phen Darts for the CL50 and lower MOBs.

I've always tried the whole Stick-holding up the box-with-a-carrot-under-it trap. The Krayts never seem to go for it though, although I found the biggest box I could find (I used the one my speeder bike came from) maybe I'll use cheese for the next trap. I'm always finding squalls and other rabbit creatures under the box with the carrot.

I think it would be better if the Devs made more traps for us Rangers, as well as making them work on other players and people, not just creatures.

I'm surprised to hear that anyone has landed a trap on a krayt period. It has always been that we can't trap them. It was though impossible, but if some have, then it's just very very rare. I have hunted them a couple times, actually had to use track, and tried at first, but nothing landed. I can land traps on Kimo's about half the time though.

Well, as I said.. I have had them stick.. but its pretty much a waste of time. The effects are minimal and you pretty much can't get them to stick unless you are at the highest trapping skill already so XP is pointless.

When hunting Krayts, the best thing to do is just get as many bleeds stacked on them as you can from as many people as possible. They will eventually start crawling around so that they can't really hit anyone. Using Ronto or Squill lairs helps too.

Of course all that was before the most recent patch. Now they are pretty much a waste of time. 40,000 HAM was doable (I even solo'd a couple)... but 450,000 is simply not worth it. You are better off going for Kimos, Peko Albatross, or maybe Blurg Raptors. I even saw some special kind of Hanadak that was like level 125.

I've never had any luck as a master ranger getting a trap to stick to a canyon krayt, but I hit the juveniles a good 80-90% of the time. The trapping xp is 2000 for hitting the juveniles. I don't know how effective they are really, as if I go krayt hunting, I just lob and pray anyway. And this was before the most recent patch when the HAMs were a lot lower. I haven't been krayt hunting in about a week or so, so I don't know if anything's changed since the patch regarding traps.

Even though I didn't need the xp after hitting master, it was still quite fun to marvel at 2000 trapping xp appearing on my screen!! I am, however, easily amused...

Since getting Novice Ranger i have learnt that it is more effective to use chocolate to catch mice in my traps rather than using cheese

I have never been able to trap a canyon krayt. Does anyone know offhand what level they are? I can land traps for 2000 xp on ancient bull rancors which are level 98. That is the highest I've gone - I was 4,4,4,3 at the time in the Ranger tree.
