If you are looking for a powerful or hyper-useful profession, dont look at ranger, but with the right attitude and mindset...its a lot of fun.

I run around in the woods with a poison ivy tiara on my head and call myself "King Itchy"!

- Role play. As a wookiee Ranger the honor of the hunt is everything. I do not poach. I do not attack the lair. I use tactics.

- Hunt down rare loot items. Sometimes this works, sometimes not.

- Hunt with groups. Rangers can find the most efficient animals to hunt for xp or resources.

- "Hire" people to hunt with me so I can fill orders. For example, a smith wants 15k of Endor Wooly and will pay 50 cpu. I get a group together and pay them for what they harvest and then sell it to the smith. Fun, xp, and money for everyone.

- Amaze people with my camp/terraforming skills

I have fun. I've been playing since launch and have been a Ranger for the majority of that time. It isn't the most useful profession around but it just fits my play style. I don't like to grind, I don't like to sit around doing the same thing for hours, and I like wandering. Being a Ranger is more a state of mind than a profession to me. The skills don't do all that much but I enjoy using them for some reason. Right now, I'm almost completely useless for solo combat but I'm still having a lot of fun. It does help that I know a lot of people in the game but I did manage to meet them while still Rangering (although playing since launch has really helped that). My other profession (Squad Leader) was recently added because I was tired of always going solo. I'm almost forcing myself to group if I want to hunt. Ranger helps me last a bit longer when I'm not hunting, though (/conceal, burst run efficiency, and terrain negotiation--I should have over +100 burst run efficiency and over +150 terrain negotiation soon with the stacking from Squad Leader).

Don't forget to wander. And wander a lot. Become familiar with the planets you frequent. Know what creatures drop what resources, and where to go to find those resources (besides the mission terminals).

Being a Master Ranger isn't about filling up a bunch of skill boxes, it's about knowing stuff. I've had the Master Ranger box for only a few months, but I still have a long way to go before I truly master the profession. I'm going to take a break from harvesting and hit the road to study some planets I haven't spent a lot of time on.

Don't forget to roll your eyes at commandos who don't know how to properly take down a lair. Right, JB?

I wander the Galaxy, planet to planet, often following the flow of resources. These resources I trade for food, lodging, equipment and sometimes, if a person needs, for nothing at all. I watch and listen to my surroundings and its inhabitants. I smell the earth and taste the wind, always learning what nature has to teach.

Along the way, I search for my brethren, my fellow Rangers. We are a rare breed. When I find one of my own, the words are few but to the point and worth listening to. If you ever pass a camp with two or more Rangers in it, ask politely if you can sit. Then just sit there and listen. The Ranger knows the lands and will always help those who are sincere and willing to learn. Those that disrupt the lands with their shouting, random killing and what not, are not always well-received by those who respect the land and its creatures.

As one of these Rangers, I try to learn from nature and then to pass that knowledge, and what ever else I have, along to those who are willing to learn from it, as I have.

If you ever do meet a Ranger, I ask only that you show him or her the same respect that I know he/she will show you.
