Thread: Conceal changes or was this a bug?
Anyway, last night I was on Rori and had the right stuff for a camo-kit so I made one and did "/conceal" before leaving Narmle. Mostly as an experiment to see if it would keep those loser criminals from shooting up my bike. When I entered the "/conceal" command, I got the chat message about applying it, but no status indicator change. Left town and the aggro npcs weren't phased at all.
Here's the fun part. About 5 hours later, I head in and decide to Mask Scent first. When I finally get to town the aggro npcs ignored me and I got Scout xp messages as if camo'd. I don't have conceal on a button, so I didn't get confused and hit the wrong one, and I definitely didn't /conceal again, though I did still have camo left in my main inventory.
Would someone comment on the way it's supposed to work and/or confirm that there's been a change? Since I read all the change notices, I'm pretty sure nothing was announced. So this is probably a bug. (Too bad, I think it worked out well.)
Then again, /shame, I haven't used camo that much. Fred or the others can probably answer much better.
They stated camo working on an NPC is a bug (ignoring what the description and what we were originally told). It has always behaved stangely on NPCs depending upon your faction. If you had a poor faction they simply ignored camo. If you were neutral it worked as expected. If you were friendly (once that was implemented) it could actually cause them to aggro because it still made a check.
I imagine it still works this way. Generally the aggressive mobs are the ones you end up with negative faction with, so over time everyone assumed it 'broke' because they didn't know of this behavior.

Hmmmm... I thought they made it so camo didn't work on NPCs anymore. Were there any other aggressive animals in the area you might have been masking against? The NPCs may have ignored you just to mess with your mind.

When I saw the xp messages I stopped and double-checked the red dots. They were all named NPCs of the criminal type of that area (name escapes me atm.) I'm pretty sure my faction with them is -3000 or lower, as they *always* aggro me when I'm in range.
Ummm....I was on Lok last night. Droid cave. Didn't have any camo so I /maskscent. (what the heck) Very negative pirate faction and they didn't see me.
I'm still gathering camo supplies though. This has to be a bug.
What makes you think they haven't already forgotten?

One interesting bug I saw was when I would use camo on a planet, shuttle off the planet (now the camo indicator is gone), /maskscent all red dot creatures would aggo me. Then when I'd /maskscent again to remove it, I'd get a message stating, "You cannot maskscent while concealed" or something like that, so I'd have to /conceal (indicator is removed) and maskscent to get maskscent working again.
Try it, it works everytime
Conceal before you leave the planet, maskscent when you get to your destination and use maskscent again. You'll get a message saying you can't maskscent while concealed.
