Thread: Need Advice On My Hunting Character Build

Ive been pondering this for a few days now, ever since I decided to create a second character on Infinity to try out the Ranger profession. Ive decided not to bother taming my own pets, but I wanted a little CH anyway, so I could store more in my datapad, and so any BE pets I bought would be cheaper/easier to get my hands on.

I eventually decided on the following, but your experiance would be very helpful in deciding whether it has enough offensive power etc.

Master Scout(77)
Marksman 4003(38)
Master Ranger(63)
Rifleman 4434(60)
Creature Handler 0100(11)
Total = 249 SP

Any good?

Depends what you feel "Ultimate hunter" is. If it means the sense in that you should be the single most important hunter in the area, tracking and trapping your prey, and removing it from its habitat with precision even a brain sergeon would love? Yes, your template would be alright. You can remove that Kreetle just fine.

But sadly, those points in Master Ranger are sort of wasted. I'll get some negitive feedback from my Ranger buddies for this, but I've recenetly decided to abandon my Master Ranger feelings for Ranger 0/0/3/0, just going up the only useless tree. This single tree gives you the tree most importantly and useful parts of Ranger, I feel1) Nearly best harvesting 2) Nearly best area track, 3) Nearly best creature identification.

With those extra skill points you could sink it easily into Rifleman and CH.

My template is simple:

Master Scout

Ranger 0/0/3/0

Master Rifleman

Master Creature Handler

and of course 4/0/0/0 Marksman

The template is severely lacking in medic, sadly. But thats alright- I've got a CH in my main hunting party anyway who seems alright.

Between Master Creature Handler and Rifleman, and then tracking on the Ranger, I ought to be fine in not only finding a specific creature I want to kill, but then sending my 3 tamed baddies in and then killing it from 64m away. Throw in a droid and baby its all over.

Rifleman is something you'll find you'll want to master. Its just that way. The difference between 4/4/3/4 and master is very noticable. Just like every increase in Speed/Accuracy you'll notice right away.

Not sure about CH yet, I'm still going through, but right now it seems very fun. If you're not a CH fan, then yeah, Master Ranger.

Oh, and Rebels rule

I'd argue that you would want to either drop the CH or the ranged support to get Master Rifleman. Right now, Master RIfleman gives a huge increase to your killing power (much more than you would get from either CH or Ranged Support). CH is nice but 0/1/0/0 CH won't give you any pet that can withstand the creatures you can solo as a Master Rifleman (rancors usually drop before they can reach you if you start shooting at 64m). I personally used to have Master Ranger/Master Rifleman/Marksman 4/0/0/4. The suppression fire gave me a bit of extra time before the rancor (or whatever other mob it was) had a chance to close. Other people like taking CH up to the third tier in a skill as it gives you a pet that can withstand a few hits from a rancor level mob (about 5k HAM pets, CL 19). And some people like taking Novice Medic to heal themselves. But I would strongly recommend getting Master Rifleman and specializing in one of CH/Ranged Support/Medic.

I would have to agree that your templete for CH will not be very useful. My current templet works great for combat and is a lot of fun for RP purposes. I love running around and hunting with my animals, but you will need BE lvl 19 pets to even be of use when you reach the top tier of rifleman. My suggestion if you are set on have CH.

Master Ranger-Master Rifleman-Creature Handler 0-0-3-0

This way you can have lvl 19 pets with good resist and ham, if you find a good BE, and you will have I think it is 13 pets in you datapad. I don't need to use stims between battles, I just give my pet a breather and use another.

The template that I will return to one day with Ranger will be Master Ranger/Master Rifleman and enough CH to get a lvl 19 pet. Which lets me ride my Wasteland Cupa around.

Hmm, so it would be best to drop the Ranged Support tree? The reason I included it was because I had read that its attacks were very handy, however I suppose your right, with CH I have pets to tank for me. Im primarily creating this character for some run roleplay hunting when I want to escape from the stiff, overbearing Commissar Hark character I have on Chimaera, and the only reason I wanted some CH was so I would be able to get certain pet "skins" from BEs I couldnt as a "normie", as well as the ability to store additional pets(I plan to have a different mount for each style of planet, whats the point in using a mount that evolved on a swampy planet like naboo on a desert wasteland like tatooine? It wouldnt last five minutes).

So, again, would it be better(assuming I go master ranger/master rifleman) to go with the Ranged Support tree, or a chunk of CH?

MR, going for MRM, and I'll be keeping my Ranged Support IV, myself. I use it all the time to get out of a jam.

Make what suits your playstyle. I get lots of grief from my guildies for keeping that line and not going medic, but it's saved my furry ass many times, and when I did have some medic, most times I couldn't stim fast enough to stay alive and still be able to be combat effective.

Ah, well in that case yeah, Master Ranger and Rifleman

Ranged Support can be useful, honestly. Threaten Shot can make somethings run away, you can peace, and go back into concealshot just fine.

Or, you can be a headshot fiend and let your pets tank for you- they'll take all the damange so you won't need Threatenshot

Master Ranger and Rifleman gives you 18 points left.

With Ranged Support you'll have Threatenshot and Surpressionfire. Threaten makes them run away from you, and Supression puts them in a Prone position.

With CH you can grab 3 up any line, 0/3/0/0 would be advisable. Gives you most stored pets. Since you won't be taming your own, just buy BE pets. The last tree would let you have two pets out at once, but thats useless since they'd be splitting CL19.. a 10 and a level 9, which is pretty useless. But a CL19 pet would be handy. And at 0/3/0/0 you could carry 12 and swap them out between battles. Kind of like Pokemon on crack.

Rifleman 2/1/1/1
