Thread: How effective is tracking?....really?

I find that it doesn't actually detect something on tracking unless the server has loaded it...meaning either someone (another player) has already loaded the creature or you have to be within the like 200 meter range and have it load.

Are my findings accurate? Does tracking need a boost? I find it to be quite worthless. Since I can cover like 1k meters in a car very very fast.

I'm thinking we should be able to type in what creature we're looking for and we will always be looking for tracks so if it comes across one it will automatically let you know it's detected such and such tracks. Kind of like 6th sense for Asheron's Call.

Okay...to prove this crap. I just did a person search and nothing came up. Got in my car went about 300 meters and came across some black sun people. TRACKING IS TERRIBLE

TRacking works for me all the time on animals, people, players. Just tracked 4 Krayts a few days ago with no sweat....

Tracking works ok for me most of the time also. Last night tracked 2 seperate spawns of Black Sun on Endor after other people could not find them.

Your findings are somewhat accurate but the skill is still useful (probably our most useful skill...). Yes, you will often get the effect you describe. But sometimes you get lucky (My group recently got a nice headstart on a krayt ancient because of it although other people did show up during the hour long fight and we later managed to get a giant krayt all to ourselves because the other groups were focused on the ancient spawn). It is not worthless but it does have quite a few problems.

Tracking is great!

your mistake is to use your vehicle.

Turn it off.. run abit around and start tracking- you will then get the right tracks because everything will spawn right away without the lag of a driving vehicle..... thats the way to use tracking..

(you can use your vehicle sometimes too but when you get off it, wait 30 seconds so that everything will spawn and then start tracking)

Tracking is fairly effective. There are a few holes with it,but mainly you can work around those.

I agree, if you are going to use a vehicle, and I do this myself - ride through the area, dismount, call a pet or droid, then do an /ar. You see a lot more.

I use if frequently to find specific creatures, usually to low for me to get missions for, but that are dropping what I want. Used the heck out of it on Naboo, found the Albatross in like 5 minutes with only a general area to work from being my only hint.

Use the heck out of it whenever I want to find avian on Corellia, and I am not hunting rasps. I know where the gulginaw hide, and /ar for them, and found 5k worth.

Tracking is not 100%, but then, if you think about it, no skills are, real life or here. All the weapons users miss, as do the melee people. No reason you can expect to use a skill and see 100% of the targets out there. Go with the flow.
