Yeah I remember it being for the over harvesting. Oh well I guess i was hoping it would go away since Im a guild leader and should be... leading them

There is another tack to take on grouping -
Stay with the group - you each get 60% of what you would normally harvest. Yet if there are 4 people all harvesting - the amount you ultimately get is greater than you could get solo.
You - 60% of 100 = 60
Him - 60% of100 = 60
Her - 60% of 80 = 48
She - 60% of 80 = 48
In that example - and I made the numbers up - you have two Masters and two less than masters. The two Masters alone are at +20... if they were solo they would get 100 only.See my point?
If the group shares the harvest, as in a hunt for a guild situation - you actually make out. Not only do you drop the lairs or prey faster, you end up with more.
I was one of the biggest opponents to not including pets in a group. Solo is one, not me and my droid. I still feel that way, but will not complain that I don't get penalized.
The only time you really take it in the shorts is in a group with non-harvestors. Altho things do go quicker.
Just trying to make things look a wee bit better.

I have used large groups for hunts quite often. Even if its just me as the long harvester walking around picking up the remains its worth it. I guess i was wrong on this

The only problem with this thinking JB is that it assumes that the whole goup will be consolidating their resources at the end of the hunt. It still discourages a Ranger from forming an Impromptu group. For example, the last time I hunted avian on Yavin, I was at the mission terminal and another ranger came up and struck up a small conversation just cuz we were both rangers. I was still building my character so I thought it might be to my advantage to ask him to group with me while we hunt since we were both there for the same thing, but then I thought twice about it because of the group penalty for harvests. it just isn't economicly viable to group with anyone if you are skinning resources for your own personal sales.
I think it would be reasonable for rangers at some skill level to become immune to the group harvest penalty.

That would be a very nice Master Ranger perk. I know I'd group (or solo group)more.

I really like that idea. Giving master rangers immunity to the group harvesting penalty would make up for a lot of the other gimping that has happened.

We are obviously a class that was built with support in mind. Take our traps and conceal as examples why we were meant to help others. But we take a needless large hit in harvesting in a group. Why is this? It encourages us to be solo hunters and ignore groups. Because we dont want to see our harvests of Fierce Pickets drop from 130 to 89 meat.
This is not a petition. This is mearly a thread looking for a reason behind the logic of the devs on penalizing Rangers. Even if its something thats removed at novice ranger, tracking IV or Master Ranger. It would seem that it would benefit the class as a whole to remove this unneeded penalty.

The problem is we were originally designed with the same internal conflict. We are both solo and support oriented. This rift was further created when we got our Cammo skill added almost a year ago(even though it is relatively ineffective anymore).
The basic design for SWG Rangers is that of the "Park Ranger" not military ranger. It is very cool in that no other game really takes that approach to the Ranger class. I like it but just wish we had more functionality and uses to further develop that concept.
When you keep in mind we are designed after Park Rangers, our solo yet support group role immediately makes sense. The idea is we roam around in the wilderness solo but then help anyone in trouble we happen across. Which fits perfect into the rescue skill, camp design, trap design, cammo, etc.
The biggest flaw to our design right now though is that those who are in the wilderness are now going to either be powerful enough that they don't need our help, or have a vehicle so they can just fly to safety. In other words we were only "somewhat implemented" to start with and the game has evolved to the point where our few advantages are meaningless now too.

Well, originally, there was no penalty for harvesting while in a group, but only one person was able to harvest each creature! This led to "Ninja Harvestors" in groups, who harvested creatures as fast as they could for the xp. This was a really big problem for scouts/rangers becauseit meant that we had to play solo to harvest more, but to get camp xp we had tobe in a group. The devs decided to allow multiplescouts/rangers to harvest while in a group, but they were afraid this would cause themeat/bone/hide markets to become oversaturated because of it. Hence, they added in that each person in a group can only harvest 60% ofwhat they can while solo. But its better than it used to be, where only one person could harvest each creature.
I hope this helps explain where the group harvesting penalty comes from.

You can avoid the harvesting penalty by using a harvesting droid. Anytime I need a sologroup to get the larger lairs I use it since it will harvest for me with a bonus if its not being grouped.

I haven't spent much time in group hunts, mostly for the aforementioned reasons, but would it be safe to assume that the rate of killing on a group hunt would be significantly faster than the rate when solo?
i.e. over time you personally would also collect a greater amount of organics in a group than if solo?
