Thread: New Idea to make Rangers & Scouts Unique.

Don't know if this idea has been posted before but if not it should have. I don't know why this hasn't hit me eariler but I was hunting on Yavin last night, getting avian meat because the quality is good right now. I took a couple of missions from the mining outpost and proceeded out. I finished my missions and then went another 2,000 to 3,000 meters away from the starport to just hunt creatures that drop avian meat. After about another hour of huntingI started attackinganotherchoku lair. I'm almost finished with it, when some player from Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) runs up and starts complaining that I'm stealing his lair. So I stop attacking it and apoligize. I can't tell if it is his mission or not. I'm using area track and finding things on my own. He told me to do like everyone else and get a mission and be respectful of other people's missions. I told him that there is no need for me to get a mission when I can find it on my own. He didn't like that response but I apologized and left anyways. I realized that I was within 1000 meters of the startport again and this is were a lot ofpeople's missions spawn. But this made me think of something that could help make us scouts and rangers unique.

Let's pose a question to the devs that from the general mission terminals, that there would only be missions that have you attacking pirates or NPC's and no creatures. If you want a creature mission you can use the explorer mission terminal and you need to be a scout or ranger to get missions from them. The exploration terminals usually don't give you waypoints to creatures, you have to go find them. That would make us unique and it would help the ranger problem of getting undercut by scouts. Scout can't track animals like rangers do, so it would be harder for scouts to find exactly what they need. Thus when you go on a hunt you don't have to worry about accidentally stealling someone's mission because the lair wouldn't be anyone's mission. It would make scout and rangers more uniqure because we can find exactly what we are looking for and not just cruise a mission terminal until a mission that contains a creature we want to harvest from pops up. It would in my opinion make rangering and scouting a lot more fun. It would also cut out the "I took novice scout so I can harvest for myself people" If they had to go out and actually find the creature instead of getting a mission for what they are looking for, then we would be unique.

Does anyone else agree or am I just a crazy nazi wako? We still need our camps fixed, new traps, and the /track command that was promised by green marine almost a year ago. Those were promised and we have not received. I've read enough threads saying that the dev want to know what would make being a scout and ranger unique and staying with the original concept the devs had for us. I think my idea hitsthe nailright on the head. It would give us a bigger value to the economy of star wars galaxies and not change the dev's idea about what scouting and rangering is.

a word of advice

if the lair is titled this way:

a [insert animal name here] lair

than it is someone's mission

if the lair is titled this way:

a dead log, a nest, brambles, ect

than it is a wild spawn lair, and is fair game for whoever gets to it.

on a related note, if you fancy a trip to lok, and you come across a lair called "a pile of bones" be very careful about attacking it, cuz you never know what type of kimo will come out to greet you, or if he's bringing friends.

and as most are probalby aware, the wild spawn lairs spawn twice or more critters than mission lairs. i can get 30-40 gurks out of one lair called "a nest" where i'm lucky to get 10-15 out of a mission lair.

Wow, never caught that either and I've been a ranger for almost a year now . Good catch. But does my idea have any merit though?

Im not sure if i'd like that idea, assuming that non scouts have no way of pulling creature destroy missions at all. Killing Nym's Guards and Marooned pirates are all well and good, but gets monotonous after a while. It's nice to kill creatures too, if for no other reason, just to see some of the amazing looking creatures in this game. The Gurks are by far one of my favorite creatures in the entire game, they make some of the best noises of any creature in the game. and you can't forget the pharples either. i want a pharple pet.

as you can see, i spend a lot of time on Lok. my city i am the mayor of is located there, and it is always a great spot for organics. when hopped up on the veghash, you can harvest over 700 units of leathery hide off of one kimo, but now i'm getting off topic.

anyway, i'd like to see a mission terminal revamp. one where we can specify for the terminal to only show creature missions, or npc missions, and also have difficulty tabs so that we do not need to get into a solo group. it is a pain when myself and my BE friend go out to Endor for Merek DNA, and we need to group with anyone we can find in the outpost in order to pull the missions, even though i can solo any of these missions on my own. so i think that a system where we can sort missions, and only see certain types of missions of certain difficulty levels (no matter our group status) would be much more beneficial to the game as a whole than only letting scouts/rangers pull creature missions.

although, solo groups can be fun at times, like when you're running Janta missions it's nice to have someone to talk to. i usually only resort to the Janta and Mokk missions when cash is really low, and i have some big expense coming up.

I see what you're saying and it's valid too. In my idea, iIf you wanted to go hunt animals you still could. You just wouldn't be able to use a mission termial to spawn what you are looking for. You would actually have to go wander out into the wilderness and find it on your own. And if you don't do the tracking line of ranger then you will have to wander around aimlessly until you find what you're looking for. If you're a ranger you can /areatrack and find what's there around you. I'm just thinking of a way to really make rangers and scouts actually explore to find what they need and make the non serious scouts from spawning missions that not only gives them the resource they are looking for, but credits on top of that. Someone with just novice scout but that is a master chef or doctor or something like that is not going to want to actually have to walk around and actually hunt what they need. That would let us true scouts and rangers who don't mind that kind of work go do our jobs. And as for breaking up the monotany of just having pirate or other NPC missions, you could actually go out and find creatures to attack. Nothing would stop you from doing that. It's a minor tweak and I think would really make the scout and ranger professions more valuable and make us feel like real hunters.

I really do like you idea of separate tabs to differentiate between the different types of missions that is cool. But hunting should just be going out into the wilderness and attacking what you find. Or maybe you just change it so you don't actually have missionwaypoint to lairs but it tells you what kind oflair you need todestroy and you go out and find one. It's just my theory but to hunt you should actually have to track it down and not have a waypoint handed to you. I think that what has bothered me since the launch of this game. It just makes me feel like less ofa ranger when anyone can just get a mission at the starport with a waypoint right to the creature they are looking for. We should have to head out on our own and find it.

I'm sure there must be a great dividing line between people that think like I do and others that want to keep creature resource hunt super simple. Everyone feel free to add what you think about my idea, and Oreet's. Maybe a really good idea will come from all this brainstorming that is actually good to all lines of thinking. We can't get a great idea if we don't collaborate and share.

It is applicable and related to the line of thought (think it was phenix' idea) for hunting parties led by rangers, to an instanced situation.

Creature lairs give way more weapons xp than humanoid lairs. Therefore I don't think non-scouts should be penalized. Besides if u kill someone else's lair, just be quick about it cuz they can spawn anothe mission if not in the immediate vicinity.

I see your point. I added to my original post in that players could still get a missions for creature lair but that the waypoint to a lair should not be givin. This way you have to go out and look for one. Also if you just wanted the exp from destroying a creature lair, you could always go out and find them on your own. But I know a lot of us who haven't mastered a combat profession or people that are switching professions need exp. So why should the game baby the players and give them a waypoint right to a type of creature that they want to destroy for resources, credits and exp? I'm just saying that we should all have to go out and find the creatures we want to hunt. This would give Scouts and Rangers a little more importance in the game. I'm tired of seeing master chefs that are dabbling in scout but show their master chef tags out taking hunting missions within 800m or so of the starport on yavin or dathomir, running up and saying you're stealing their mission. When I tracked down this lair all by myself. I didn't have the game baby me and give me a mission for a creature that drops the resource I want, pay me credits for destroying it, and give me weapon and combat exp for doing it. I just feel it takes away from ranger when people that aren't serious about these professions are running around with novice scout just so they don't have to rely on others to get what they need. It cheapens us and leads to greifing. Why is the hunting part of hunting taken out?

As Oreet stated, mission nests have a title with the creatures name in it, non-missions nests/lairs simply state "pile of bones", dead log", etc. One thing tho, if you do kill someones mission lair, they still get the money from the mission. This use to happen to me a lot when I was just starting out ... I was glad to have gotten the money, but as a scout/ranger I wanted the creature harvest as well {grin} and at times got ticked, but then just simply ran and got another mission.

With regard to your idea ... we actually do have an advantage over other professions who may try to use the explorer terminal rather than the mission terminal ... we can track the creatures which saves us time whereas the other profs have to spend time running around searching for the creatures hit or miss. And, besides, I think the other professions only take creature missions when they know a particular creature will give them better xp for whatever type of weapon they are leveling with and/or if they are looking for a particular loot that drops off of certain creatures. So removing creatures from the main terminals and placing them on a designated scout/ranger terminal would really serve only one purposeful advantage to scouts/rangers .... having people hire them to group with them to be able to access that type of mission terminal ... and that would probably create outrage and backlash from the other professions for giving us what they would consider and unfair advantage.

One of the things I love and do as a Ranger in this game is exploring the galaxy and tracking out in the wilds away from the "mission spawns" However, I believe that by forcing non-ranger professions to hunt animals by not allowing access to creature missions from terminals, is basically making someone play the game by conforming to a particular play-style. The way things are now, everyone makes their own choice in how to play and hunt in this game which is how it should be. Those who wish to hunt by exploration can and do ... those who wish to hunt by mission can and do ... those who wish to hunt in the "kill and run style" can and do ... The only way to make Scouts and Rangers more unique is to perhaps add more types of quests and missions to the game that require finding something that is a random spawn or "tracking" spawn ie: without a waypoint. Thus making more reasons to actually hire a ranger.

That is good too and I see that taking away the creature missions from the mission terminals is not the way to go. But the waypoint should taken away from the missions.

NEW IDEA:

You should still get the initial waypoint that takes you to the area that your is going to spawn. But you know where as of now we get that message "Waypoint updating to the exact location" or whatever. That goes away and you get no final waypoint. From there you actually have to hunt down your lair spawn. Everyone could still do it on their own but it would be easier if you had a scout or ranger with you.

I think hunting should be hunting, and these should not be handed to you for free. Why baby the players?

I see where you're thinking about all this, but there's more to it then "they can just hunt NPC's".

Lairs and critters give MUCH better XP than NPC's. People dont grind out their chosen profession by doing Faction missions, or killing pirates. They go hunt Quenkers, Pickets, Tortons, Gurks, etc.
