Thread: Greetings! Question on the selling of meats and hides.

First off... I want to thank ALL of you! This board is great. I have been lurking for awhile (at work) and this is my first post. Very positive andmotivated community here, without all the negativity I have witnessed on most boards.
Calc, Owen, and Fred -You guys rock!
I am an aspiring Ranger (3344) who is relatively new to the game (three months.)I have been working my way towards Master hunting on Dant since that is my home.
I am wondering how most of you sell your hides and meats?
I have seen a few posts about contracting with others, I have seen that Field and Stream is set up on my server and I have seen posts about using the bazaar. - ButI would like to know how most of you do go about this. Pros/Cons - Thoughts?
Also, how do you guys get a feel for the current market price? Auction channel? Word of mouth?
Oh, if any Rangers on Corbants would like to hunt and show me some pointers,please send me a /tell.

Many people sell them outright (there are a few pricing guides out there) but other prefer to barter...it may save you a lot of money if you supply a Doc with herb meat and get free buffs out of the deal.

Yes the best option is to keep a close eye on your galaxies trade forums for the good shift contracts, that will give you a very clear picture of current market price.
If you join an AR guild they provide resources at cheap prices which helps alot of people out, they will set a price that you sell to the guild then those resources get sold on to the customers.

Anything you milk will most likely be bought right out, no matter the OQ, of course the higher the better, but it is definitely the most underutilzed harvest scouts/rangers recieve, so it is in constant demand.
The high end resources you can track on swgcraft.com for your server. Calc's suggestion of having a steady deal with a doctor is right on, though stretch that mentality to include a master chef for your expenive drinks and food. In addition auction channel won't hurt and you can usually hear a doc or two shouting out in Coronet that they are buying as well as the server specific trade forums here. Another place you can find out the mainstream prices and who is buying is the local ranger chat channel, most have RIN, shadowfire has hunterschat, etc.
Personally I keep good harvests, try to keep down to 4 harvest stacks while I'm out, including milk. I do not bazaar my other non premium harvests, I either deestry (if under 500) or give to newbie scouts and so forth. If hunting large game and I find I get over 2k of something I'll save it and dedicate that type to my camp / trap stacks.

Is the pricing tool that you are talking about on swgcreatures? I will go a seaching later today...
I use to get deep discount buffs from a guildmate doc. Since he is gonna be gone for awile, I normally go unbuffed now... takes too long to go to MO and wait whenI would rather be out hunting.
Is this how most of you operate, contracting with Docs for payment and buffs?

Thanks for the pointer on milking. I have done a little, but not much... I will keep at it and go looking for some chefs buyers.
Can you explain to me the process for loggingon to or finding out if there isRanger Chatchannel? I haveseen other posts about these channels but I'munclear on how to set these up.

Yeah milk is always in demand. My alt is a chef so I can tell you I never have enough milk when I need it. Aso for who to sell advertise to Docs, BE's and chef. I have 3 dedicated contacts who now mail me what they want, how much, and what they are going to pay.

It seems everyone pretty much covered this question ... I too have a couple of chefs who are regular customers for milk and insect meat. I have been lucky as I haven't had to do much in the way of searching for contacts to sell to as I get quite a few in-game tells and emails from people looking for a particular harvest especially if they found a current spawn. Most make an offer of what they are willing to pay while others ask what I charge. In which case, I take into account what the quality of the harvest resource is and the planet location to factor travel ticket costs and buff costs as I don't hunt the harder planets unbuffed.
It is a good idea to send emails to vendors/doctors/etc.letting them know your are around and available for servicing contracts. Also, whenever you place an item up for sale on the bazaar, you can put a notation on the item that you are available for hire ... not sure how much attention that will get for a ranger, but I see a lot of vendors who do that to advertise their location and services.

I've got a contract with a guy near me for hides. I do vendor drops and we have a pay scale worked out based on the quality of the hides (so like 1cpu for like 100-200 OQ). For particular types of hides, I get a small bonus per unit.
For other materials, I keep my eyes open on the auction channel and find that it is good for the occassional opportunities.
PRO:
1) Steady buyer - I can always sell my hides without problem.
2) Steady prices - I know about how much revenue I will have and can plan accordingly for weapons/armors orders and harv maintenance.
CON:
1) Sometimes I miss out on opportunities because I've already sold all my hide.
2) Very low cpu on poor OQ hides no matter what quantity.
3) If your buyer does not regularly check his vendors, then you could be waiting for your credits for a while.
It's not making me rich, but considering that I'm new it gives me plenty of money to keep me going and there is no hassle.

If you want to get some contracts quickly, just drop some premiummeats or hides on the bazzar at slightly below market value. This is the best way to advertise and you will get many tells and mails from docs, As, and chefs asking you to harvest.

On the chat box, right click on one of the "tabs" such as combat. a little menu will come up. click on New Tab. Then, right click on the new tab, and click on Modify Tab. you will see a new box with all the chat channels that the tab is connected to (none). Click on the Join Channel (or something like that) button and you will see a list pop up. The list will be a drop down list with a bunch of little buttons. Most chanels on the server will be under the regular "Chat" button. If you can't find one, there will always be an option to start one. i know on Eclipse the standard Ranger chat is RIN- Rangers Information Network.
This is all of the top of my head before my caffine injection, so I apologize for any wrong/difficult to understand instructions. If anyone sees any errors in what I said, correct them, please.
