OK, since none of this is concrete yet, but was said that our SP cost was being brought into line with the other professions, lets assume (I know, I know...) the only 2 branches of Scout are required.
What is everyone going to do with the 34 SP that are left over?
I'm not sure if we'll have 34 SP left over. For all I know, we may need another Novice profession to qualify for Ranger (I nope not), But I won't have a problem if its Ranged Support (but that would hurt the Melee themed Rangers out there).
Since I was thinking of dropping Ranger for Combat Medic so that I'd have the 24 SP for force sensitive and a full CL80 template to achieve padawan and the coveted second character slot (Which was to become a Master Ranger), I may have to rethink my thoughts.
I need to sit down with pen, paper and a calculator to see what is possible. I wish we knew what our Pre-requisites were....
Well, at first thought, I may pick up BH Pistols/Carbines to supplement Master Rifleman or Medic 0/4/1/0 for the Healing.

Just do what I was doing, download the character calculator from bloodfin.org if you haven't got it already and then instead of using Scout/Ranger to do your calculations, use something completely divorced from it to do the calculations, like say Entertainer/Musician and just mentally substitute Ranger for Musician. That way the calculations work out mathematically at least (just don't use Image Designer)
I too am working on FS for the alt, and was going to be forced to either drop Ranger or go CH/Ranger. The extra points are the most welcome change, even if it does feel like the core of "rangerdom" to me is being subsumed into Scout...

You know, thats a darn good idea! I do have the bloodfin.org profession calculator, but never thought of using another profession just for the numbers... very interesting. Of course, I'm away for the weekend and don't have access to my computer (using Dad's - with Dial-up... argh).
Now I need to pore over the Ranger Enhancements document with a fine tooth comb!

I might try to get more SL skills, since I've never been that good with medic anyway.
There's also this character builder page.

I'll most likely just keep whatI have now. If they are gonna move all the Harvesting mods to scout, then having Master scout will help me get organics for my crafter friends.

What extra skill points?
All the current useful skills will probably be moved to Master Scout so you're going to have to buy it anyway.

Find a way to keep Master Scout and build my "Ultimate Creature Ranger" to be CL 80 :/
Oh and... just use the overload feature on the bloddfin calculator to get the 34 extra SP

For all the talk of the new prereqs and all, I somehow suspect that in the end, I'll still be a Master Scout in addition to Master Ranger. While I'm intrigued by the paramilitary role that the Rangers seem to be heading towards, I still can't get past that my original concept for my character was a supremely confident hunter.
A more intriguing question is going to be the type of xp used to advance the Ranger profession. It's been pointed out elsewhere that Scout xp may not be appropriate anymore for it (on the other hand, it wouldn't be the first time an ability has had a very odd xp cost-I believe Slicing falls in that category these days, but I could be wrong). If a completely new xp type is needed, how will that affect *shudder* folks grinding for jedi? I'll admit this is more relevant for the folks who will be working up to Ranger more than the folks who are already masters, but it is something I trust the devs are thinking about.

IF we do get extra SP, I'm getting medic. Man, I hate depending on others to heal me in combat.

Most likely, I'll stay with Master Scout, Master Ranger, Master Creature Handler. I see no reason to consider a change, before I've had a chance to experience the changes for a while.
