Is that Ranger will become the new BH fotm support class like MCM or rifleman is now. With the change in requirements, it will make a BH / Ranger / CM combo the new fotm for those BH that hunt Jedi. It's like the devs said: "Lets look at the numbers, BH is the most played class and then Jedi, so lets make the new Ranger what the BH's want and forget about the people who have been rangers for so long."

I am grateful for change but unhappy about where it will lead us who actually like PvE Rangers.

A lot of the changes were actually asked for in a way by this community. Refresh yourself on the stickies above. I do agree that it may become the FOTM now. Dissapointing this is.

Although it would seem that way, unless Ranger gets some serious def/off skills, it just wont be very competetive against a Jedi.

Actually, I was going to make my alt a BH, but now, having read the new revamp, I think I like to go back to ranger, and maybe some TK, or Pistol

I have read them. I realize that the community was divided on this issue. I wish the fotm community had not won. That said, I don't feel that the changes are bad, just that some of the skills belonged in other professions. The commando community has been begging for help *nearly* as long as the ranger community and they could have really used the mines as an alternative to their botched up grenades, being that they *are* supposed to be the AOE specialists. Assuming that the ranger revamp goes in effect as advertised, a M.Ranger / M Carbiner will have *significantly* better AOE capabilities than commandos. I realize the smugglers already got a minor revamp, but IMO pickpocketing belongs in the underworld specialists.

Anyhow, I am not upset or even really disappointed in the change, just bummed that things were not all that I was hoping for and it will make us a fotm. Defensive issues aside, I suspect that there will be some major complaints by Jedi and I don't like the BH / Jedi war anyway. I liked my PvE Ranger.

If it does become "FotM", it just shows that the changes are enough to make the profession competetive with other professions. Whats so bad about that? If the changes went in and no one even bothered to try it out, it would be like going from one set of borked skills to another.

Besides, it still isn't going to grant special attacks (I'm hoping it'll at least grant some defense and maybe a bit of offense mods though), so it'll be a choice between a BH that wants to attack from the stealth and use that tactic or one who just wants to come with guns blazing and do the job that way.

As for the Commando thing.... the AoE capability is bad only because the weapons aren't granting full AoE. While it would be nice to get a Commando "revamp", all that really needs to be done is for them to improve grenades and fix the AoE weapons so they do full area damage. That would help immensely. Add in a switch between a weaker AoE version of the weapons or a full power single target version, and the profession would be awesome.Commando's are more about big firepower, the new Ranger is more about stealth. While Commando does have the explosive knowledge, I just don't see laying stealth mines as a skill that would work with the role Commando's have in the game.

And I believe most of the smugglers would much rather actually smuggle, than steal.

Remind me how Ranger will become FOTM? Maybe for our stealth. But considering that as I read it, a Bounty Hunter who wished to use his or her Ranger skills to help bring down a Jedi would have to sneak up, get a bio-sig, run away (remember the stealth devices have a limited time span), craft explosive traps, sneak back up, then place them, all while hoping the Jedi doesn't move...you could expect a 20 minute preperations for a single battle. Doesn't seem like the proper way of doing things for a FOTM profession, does it. Most FOTM rely on just jumping into battles and using force. Using Ranger will require guile and skill.

Steath comes with a price-- to move around effectively, a Ranger will have to be a Master. That means sacrificing CM or other professions like pistoleer (stopping shot) in order to be able to only place mines, which requires lots of skill. I seriously doubt once people come back to Ranger and realize how hard it will be to use those things on a single, mobile target that many FOTM-types will be with us.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

If you read my second post you will see that I said that I didn't think the changes were "bad," just misplaced.

In respect to Ranger becoming fotm. Just look at any pvp game that allows for players to have true invisibility or stealth or whatever they call it. Those classes nearly always carry a high population due to their perceived advantage. Whether that advantage becomes a reality, we will have to see. However, you will see a ton of Rangers as soon as this goes live, just like every other profession that gets fixed or revamped. The difference is that this time the largest pvping community is going to be looking at ranger. And if stealth becomes a viable means for BH to maintain their suprise advantage, since it is nearly gone now with /duel and paranoid Jedi, you can bet they will be using it in high numbers. If the power involved with bio-linked mines becomes like the rogue attacks of EQ / WoW / DAOC, then we will see a huge shift in balance due to Rangers. Once that happens people flock to that profession. Hence FOTM.

That said, SOE could implement the mines similarly to grenades and the whole concept will turn into an immense disappointment for long time rangers that deserved some change.

I think I heard a NS Rancor Tamer scream this once right before I killed her, her Rancor and the whole dang village.

Maybe it is some type of battle cry.

We will hardly receive the same combat mods as a dedicated weapons profession and without the accuracy, stealth isn't going to help you much.

I'll also question the argument that Ranger in any way with it's new static traps comes anywhere near the Master Combat Medic buffs and debuffs.

There just isn't anything in the new Ranger revamp that will give a BH more of an edge in a 1on1 encounter than the templates out there now.

I think you will be right Occulus. I can see it being FOTD, perhaps FOTW, but once you've worked out how to do the sneaky thing, got the biosig, gone stealthy, snuck up on your mark... you'll be waking up in the cloner, due to the fact that with the low off mods offered, you couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo, let alone a jedi with good off/def mods.

Although for PvP I think Ranger is going to be awesome. If there are GCW changes coming down the pipes (probably not, but one can dream) then Ranger will be an awesome recon unit to have in the mix. Time to regrind back I think

this will end rangers up in the same pile as master combat medics....bh will abuse the powers that the rangers deserve to the point of getting them nerfed. the real solution, put master rifles back in the bh tree to keep them out of the surrounding trees.

Personally the idea of becoming invisible is about the most juvenille concept anyone could think of. I am disapointed the developers could come up with something alittle bit better than...d00dteh invizablzoorz fing pwns.

hey while we are at it why don't NPC's offer reproductiveeducation for us orparallel parkingtactics? That seems to fit right in with the "Vision" for this game.
