This is to inform the general public and artisans - including doctors - that resources on a planet are the same planet wide.
All creatures that drop the same organic resource on any given planet all drop the same type - same name and stats. For example - on Talus -paralopes drop herbivore meat, as do Huf Duns, vynocks, kimaand kahmurra. On any given day, at any given time, they willall drop the same meat with the same statistics. Only the amounts vary. This is the same for each and every planet.
Resources shift. Unlike mineral resources, sometimes organic resources shift at unexpected times, and the 3 week period is not necessarily the norm. Organics can shift from one day to the next, and have been seen to shift from one type to another during an 8 hour period. Usually organics donot shift before a server reset, but it has happened.
Resources vary from server to server. Just because "endorian wolley hide" is good on server A does not mean it will be good on server B. Fact is, there is a better than even chance it isn't.
Finally, camping a cave or dungeon will not result in a lot of resource harvesting. The Devs have it set so any creature in a dungeon or cave only drops 1 unit of resource per harvest. Regardless of what the creature drops in the wild, in caves and dungeons you get one unit per harvest.
Facts that Rangers know and should be shared

Sometimes (very rarely), a particular resource has more than two types at one time. This has happened to me on more than one occasion. For instance, one time while harvesting Corellian insect meat from the butterfies, I noticed that the defender's gave me different meat from the warriors. I checked more than once and verified it to be the case. While this sort of thing does not occur often, this definitely was not an isolated incident.

Blackstar is correct. It happens very rarely, but I have seen it more than once on starsider. And yes, the information in the original thread is great for new scouts and rangers.

Very helpful information I'm sure to all those resource junkies out there. You mention that 3 week shifts are usually not the norm. What would you guys say is the "average" lifespan of a resource? My observations are about a week to 10 days. Generally if I find an average quality resource, I won't bother collecting any of it if it's older than a week since It will likely shift before I can collect a decent ammount of it.

A week to ten days seems to be the norm for organics, 10-15 for "ground" resources (things you need a harvester for, not a Ranger/Scout). I have seen longer, though--we had a Dantooine Herbivore shift on Eclipse recently that lasted nearly a month!

I get this from doctors a lot, they keep insisting that I should have no problem getting a 100k stack just for them and constantly wonder why no one will huntbirds for even 200 cr/u. I did get the " just hunt the <insert critter of note> cave, and you should get a huge stack in no time". Sorry, devs thought of that. I know the devs thought of this and Ihave hunted the "critter of note" cave and yes, one unit...
