Well I know I wrote the other thread but this time I was thinking if people liked the quests so much we should try to work out something useful and if we get it fleshed out we could go grab Calc and ask him to send it into the DEVs.
So hear is my idea to start. I will add or take away from this based on what everyone thinks that reads this.
1) Everyone, not only rangers, would be able to dothese quests. (Possibly make it ranger only or ranger/scout only but there is the jealousy factor)
/agree. Keep this open to all professions. It should also be at a level where it is challenging for newer players, probably be bypassed by the uber1337 but have enough interest for grizzled old vets to go back to sometime.
2) Each planet would have a hunter quest giver that gave 4 to 5 quests to hunt specific animals on that planet.
/agree. The quests should also give enough of a return in credits to encourage the newer player to travel to each planet. This way it's win/win/win for the player (CREDITS, XP, TROPHY) but again, if the reward is on the lower end of things it will encourage the uber1337 to move along.
3) They would be done in a certain order. Example: Rori, Talus, Corellia, Naboo, Tatooine, Lok, Dantooine, Yavin 4, Endor, and finally Dathomir. Each planet would be progressively harder targets. No NPC targets.
/agree. We're hunters not assassins. Though a poacher / smuggler target would possibly add a little variety? (Might quibble with the order of planets there, but largely, yup)
4) At the end of each "leg" of the quests the player would get a trophy of an animal from that planet. (Would have to change Rags' quest toa Dewback Skull or Bantha Skull or something) Possibly add a badge like "Tatooine Hunter" or "Dathomir Hunter" as well but might be too many badges.
Just tossing around the notion that part of the missions should be a loot kit component of some sort? Perhaps making that 'stuffed' critter that comes up once in a while here? The actual reward would just have to be something that identified itself with the planet, so even a 'generic' skull with the planet name and quest title?
What about grouping the badges, there are beginner and advanced planets, so a 'Expert Hunter' and an "Exceptional Hunter" type of thing?
5) At the end of all the quests the player would get a badge that said something like Master Big Game Hunter or similiar.
Yup, on completion of ALL the planetary quests, providing they still have all the items, a trophy, mounted skull, flag, something tangible and a tag to go in their bio. Something that shows they've managed to complete a sequence of events, as demanding as the Theme Parks. In fact, this amounts to a BIG theme park across all planets. Hmm...
I know it sounds stupid but in all my time playing I was never more "into" this game then when I was doing Mat Rags' quests. And so far everyone I have talked to about it said they loved it too. Maybe expanding on it is a bad thing but I think with the right planning and such we could come up with something that could be added if they did a ranger revamp or just in a general update.
The odd thing withthe Mat quests is that, while they are really, when you get down to it, just simple destroy missions with a 'go there, kills this, come back' format, you DO get the impression that you are 'in' game rather than with some of the existing themepark missions where its like "oh, go back out and kill the npc's that I just walked past without them aggroing me cos they were on somebody elses mission slate?? Again??"
That short term immersion might fall away if the quest sets were larger, but, I dunno, I reckon it's worth a punt.
I agree 100%, a very well thought out and do-able idea
Mat Rags was the first Quest i did, whilst i still have only done another 3 or 4, it was the most enjoyable Quest yet...I felt as though i NEEDED to Camo, prone and use conceal shot to get the right feel for the quest, the addition of harvesting made it even more involving and enjoyable....
Would all the Hunting Quests be run from Tatooine? or would Mat Rags have "Agents" on all other Planets - I'm a bit unsure on this one, having just Mat do the quests would make them terribly long winded affairs and people would quickly lose interest if say doing the Dath Quest they complete the 1st quest then have to go Dath>>>Corellia>>>>Tatooine and back again to start the second quest, however having agents all over the place would make it too easy....
So....heres my suggestion :- what if all quests have to start with Mat Rags then quests 2 and 3 from an "Agent" of Mats on the Planet u need to hunt on and finally Quest 4 from a Randomly spawned "Agent" that is within 1km Radius of a specific waypoint (eg a novice Ranger who bite off more than he could chew and hasn't been seen for days, maybe upon examining the body, you discover what killed the novice and then have to hunt it down) ths would give us Rangers an advantage over evryone else in that we can track both the "Agent" and the Mob in question..
I appologise if i am repeating someone else but i only scanned the text as i'm at work :-)
