I learned last night that I do not make a good crafter and that in this area, I need some work.
My story:
I finally acquired all of the pieces I needed for my creature recycler (/pat self on back). I have some artisan for a vendor, so I picked up Engineering 1 so that I could craft my own recycler. I was nervous about crafting this myself, but talked to my guild and got some advice. I got some pyrollian cake (which helps my crafting roll... whatever that is), found a friend with a +44 crafting station, and pulled out my +14 crafting tool. I saw that conductivity on the ferrous metal affects the agitator motor (which I had NO idea before I learned the schematic), soI searched all over and found the highest conductivity steel I could.
OK, crafting time. I start crafting and opt to experiment on the agitator motor... I don't know why I needed to do this, but figured I should since I didn't want to waste the schematic by making a cr*ppy and potentially useless motor. I experiment... failure... not critical failure, just a failure. I begin to abort my crafting process to try again... I get a message saying that I will loose all ingredients... no biggie... that's just red wires, copper battery, and steel... all of which I have plenty. I re-open my crafting tool to start again... WHAT?!?! where'd my schematic go?
Today's lesson for Cryos: if you abort the crafting process on asingle use schematic, you lose that schematic.
Secondary lesson: I enjoy the safety and security of ranger crafting... no real risk.
So I'm hurt. Crushed. Vexed. Irked. Now I have to go out and find another agitator motor schematic. Only problem is, now I'm too scared to craft the d*mn thing.
BTW, is there a need to experiment on the agitator? And if so, what is the benefit?

I was just informed by someone in the Game Guides forum... eperimentation does not do anything for this and is not necessary at all.
Realization: I botched the whole thing trying to do something that wasn't even needed.

... see, if you WILL go meddling in the mysteries of another profession! You're a RANGER, not a spanner monkey!
(Seriously though, commiserations, that has to be the saddest story I've heard in a while. Poor Cryo.)
