Thread: I'm actually liking /areatrack
Ok, Ok I know I'll probably get flamed for saying this but I'm actually using and ENJOYING /areatrack. So it isn't like the Level 1 Ranger tracking ability from Everquest, but guess what...this isn't EQ and Verant (thank god) isn't controlling this one. /areatrack is enabling me to at least get a general direction of where MoBs that I'm hunting may be located. Once you get the general grasp it isn't that bad. Now I'm only at Level 1 Tracking so it may be totally different at the upper levels.
On a side note, my 2 cents regarding the /camo feature is this...the devs are working (key words here) to further develop the Ranger class. Sure you may have to utilize other players in order to get some of the components to use...but guess what...a lot of classes (Architect, Armorsmith, Tailor, & Chef) need to use our hides in order to create their wares also.

I agree on the areatrack issue. I am also only at level one, but I am enjoying using this. I mean if I went tracking out in the woods, would I get a nice waypoint in the direction, or the actual spot an animal is? No.
I am enjoying being out on my own, doing the exploration destroy missions; and this new skill is making it easier and more realistic, than going to the spot the animal usually shows up and running around looking for lairs. At least now I have an idea of which way to head.
Although I like being able to find certain vendors when I am out away from towns, I don't like it seeing vendors listed when tracking animals. My only bug with this skill, at the level I am at, 1/0/1/0
See you in game,
I agree also and thank you for starting this thread.
IRL you track an animal, do the tracks tell you it is dead, or how far away it is, or anything other than a general direction, sometimes? As a Master Ranger, I can see how far and a pretty good direction. Screw the waypoint stuff, I got radar, so do you, turn it up (the / and * keys on the keypad) and go looking.
Or, if you want, get mommy to hold yer lil hand and walk you to the bad old animal and you can watch while she kills it for her lil snookie wuggums.Remember to look both ways when crossing the game path, mean ole JB may run your sorry butt over in his search for fun, travel and adventure.
I swear, some people would complain you hanged them with a new rope.

the glass is not half empty, just not filled to the top --- yet
I like it too, but don't get too excited, the max range is within 500 meters as I can tell so far.
I like that it finds peoples houses, so if I forget where that DE was in whatever huge town I'm in, I can find it
I won't comment on the Cammo kits I have no experience with them whatsoever .
Area track did not function the way I hoped it would , and I find it useless for my style of hunting . I'm glad your finding some use of the skill , and everyone else for that matter . As for me I'll wait for tracking and hope that is what I need to make this class viable for me .
And I wouldn't worry too much about people flaming your opinions .. you have a right to them and if other don't like em ... well then there is a problem there , but it's not yours
After all , the forum is here for us to discuss our opinions of the game and our professions in general
Peace all and good hunting

Well I'm still not convinced areatrack is anything more than a novelty to shut us rangers up. Unless I'm missing something... as a master ranger my range with /areatrack is disappointly low to say the least. If anyone is aware of any way to increase that range I may yet see a use for it.
Until then, I'll file that useless command in the back of my head and hope it's either improved in the weeks/months to come or /track will work better.
Guys,
So far, I've not had any issues with /areatrack. I think it's fairly easy to use, and it's working consistently. I've used it about 5 times, and each time I go where it says, I find what it said was there.
It's also working for other players too.
The range does seem to be 500m - granted, this isn't great, but it's more than you can see with the radar or the overhead map.

There is a problem with it in the boonies. I was just out on the north shore between Theed and Kaadara. I did tracking and there was nothing on track. I run foward about 50m and up pops an Ikopi lair with Ikopi. Okay, maybe it just spawned. So I am at another spot killing and skinning (btw, skinning numbers are low by at least a third even if you aren't grouped) some gualamas (good quality wooly for armor at this time). There was a lair of hermit spiders off to one side of the lair I was killing, so I was staying on the other side just to avoid them. When I finished I was just far enough away that they had poofed off my radar. Well, I did tracking and all I got were the corpses around me, so I figured that lair despawned. So I ran in that direction and it popped up on radar.
Now, I don't think this is just a tracking problem, I think it is a problem with their spawning system in those far from town places that just isn't playing nice with tracking. It doesn't happen in higher traffic places that I have noticed, just the ultra low traffic areas. And if you can't track something down far out from a city, it is kinda pointless. As for a fix, I have no idea how they can work around the spawn and despawn system.
Okay, I have a small followup to my post. I have now played for many hours doing Explorer Missions. This has helped tremendously not only in located what I am looking for, but also warning me of directions that may be hazardous. I forgot I had this skill earlier today and was running from Anchor to Eisley. For no reason at all this skill popped into my head. I stopped running and used it. It was then that I found out that there were more than 10 bocatts and 5 lesser bocatts in the direction I was heading. I slowly moved that way to confirm this, and sure enough there were 3 lairs in the area.
I very muchenjoy this new feature and plan on it only improving with time.
See ya in game,
i think it works find 500 meters in all directions is a hellofand area
1k form edge to edge
for me it seems to be bugged when i pick mobs i get listing for buildings mobs and people
i too eagerly await the tracking command
