Thread: Ranger Ideas
During the blackout last night I had a lot of time to think on what the ranger profession is missing. So here are some of my ideas.
Wayfaring
- the ranger receives a 'frequent flier' discount from the shuttle system, at level IV of the ability this can reach 50%.
- there will bea 50% increase in movement speed at level IV, this speed buff will wear off when in combat and you will not be able to reactivate it for 60s after combat is over.
- cartography, I guess it's too late for this now but this should be considered for the space expansion.
- the rangerbecomes an expert at camouflage, this allows him to single pull BAF mobs. Of course high level mobs can still see through rangers' attempts to hide and will attack when mask scent breaks.
- this high skill in camouflage will make the ranger not appear on people's radar until the first round of PvP combat. Other rangers of equal skill will have no problems locating enemy rangers however.
Camping
- upon reaching the highest level in this area you will have the option of making your camp your permanent residence. Making your camp your permanent residence will require 10 lot points (this will be optional, you will have the option to make your camp 'permanent' via the camp control device).
- the ranger will incur battle fatigue at a much slower rate with high skill in this ability (camps still don't heal battle fatigue)
- ranger camps will come equipped with 'ranger mission terminals'. These missions will be generated by artisans and medics to request certain quality hides, meat and bones. Basically a PC will be able to submit a mission with request for raw resources, specifythestats required andoffer a reward.
- ranger droids that will be used to deliver the goods to people from the wilderness
Hunting
- based on the level of this ability the ranger will be able to tame an animal, 25 CLat the highest level. The animal can be feline or canine only.
- the ranger will receive the survey and sample abilities in this line as well, rangers are in tune with their surroundings, this includes the knowledge of what's beneath the ground as well as above.
- scout harvest rates are drastically reduced, by at least 75%.
- rangers will be able to craft animal trophies. You want that bantha rug or kimo's head for your house?!
Trapping
- ranger traps need to be revamped, I didn't really think much about this line since I don't use it really, perhaps move some of the scout traps there.
Some ideas that i've come across, while talking to my buddy.
- Since we are master animal hunters we should be able to have trophies from our kills. Like the head of a piket or bol ora rancorhand ash trayor whatever. Something to mount over your couch would be really cool. Or making rugs out of Gurreks. This kinda ties into my next idea
- I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I would find it alot more interesting if the way to become a Master Ranger be changed from just finding a NPC trainer and paying for it. What I recommend is a mission of sorts, a test or trial if you will. In order to becomea Master ranger you would be required to go on a special hunt, or a quest. The npc could tell you to get him the heads of a Thune, a stuffed voritor lizzard and mabey a peko peko albatros... Something to make it less mundane then talking to NPC and getting your master status.
Im assuming here that in order to become master ranger you gotta go to an npc to get the skill
-
Also, to perhaps lower the amount of trophies, we would only be able to get them from the biggest ones, like the ancients or albatross's or whatever is the equivalent for all the other creatures. Or have quality related to them, from small or normal equaling ok quality to the big ones havingexceptional quality.
- This could lead to trophy hunts in the explorer missions. Giving us moreof a variety.
Your thoughs and comments would be appreciated
I like all of those ideas especialy the one about the quest to become a master, I found it very empty to just become a master Bio-Enginer after grinding for so long. It would have been nice to go to an NPC and go on an epic questto sample the DNA of a hard to find animal and then create a special clone from this DNA.
Personally, I didnt put on my title of Master Ranger until I spent time on every single planet. Most of which I ran from one side to the other.
I like the idea, both of them. And although I have already mastered Ranger, I would drop my master title just to do it over again.
Also, some ranger specific quests would be very cool....I enjoy helping with the RIS quest, seems to me a great synergy between Armorsmiths and Rangers.
I hope that addons like this will be added soon..
good idea and thanks for the post
woops seems like its all pretty much in the state of the profession thread...
but dammit i still want a rancor trophy
I like the ideas a lot especially the master title quests... would add some sense of progression to SWG since it toally lacks in that department. It would also make getting the master title special similar to obtianing level 50 in DAoC. also, similar to DAoC, the master title quests could give you some serious loot with + to your skill mods and other benefits. of course thisepic quets diea should be inc;uded for every single profession.
(laughs at the thought of the chef epic quest.. cookthe iron chef master a mean krayt burger!)
