I want ot master ranger fast, i already have wayfaring and tracking 4, as well as trapping and camping 2, anybody know good ways to get lots of camp xp and trap xp? For traps, ive been throwing all 10 traps while i have a pet tank. And is fishing better than camping?

For trapping, get in a group and fight some BIG FATTIES. That way, you can focus on trapping while the others hold aggro. Do what you are doing, tossing all 10 traps at creatures. We were fighting something on Dantooine, V-somethings I think, and I was getting about 900 trap xp per toss. Was sweet.

For camping, set up a camp next to a river or stream and do some fishing. That way you get camp XP and fishing XP at the same time. Or craft big camps or traps while you camp. Get double duty on your camping time. It'll take a while no matter what. Or read a book while you camp, twiddling the mouse every now and then.

Trapping is fast and easy if you're also good with some weapon and have a creature or a group. I went through the entire trapping line in less than a day, using my GSP and hunting things like ikopi stags, faambas and such. Basically, anything big that you usually find alone is what you want to go after. You can spam traps at it for a long time, especially if the creature you're using and the beastie you're fighting both have high kinetic resists.

As for camping, well... I've seen macros floating around on various sites for them, but I understand that can get you into trouble. What I've taken to doing is this: any downtime I have, (meaning dinner, tv show, cleaning house, whatever), I set up camp and go /afk. I'm working on survival IV right now, using field bases. Takes around 40 minutes to max the xp, at 1120. Also, use your camps in a group. I've two people I group with a lot and they're quite grateful for my camps. Total survival xp today for me was 8k. That's about 4 /afk camps and maybe 2-3 hours group camps while hunting.

Definitely camp often when you group. Just make like 20 camps and go on out. Anytime they sit down, someone dies, someone needs to change pets. Pop down a camp, start crafting for at least 5 minutes. Try to start up a conversation with them to keep it somewhat interesting.

That'll get you 1k xp usually. Doing that enough, on let's say Dantooine worked well for me. Probably going to end up going back there once I get enough resources to start making more camps. Working on Frontiering 4 myself. Only 50k more to go! lol...

Trapping by far is the easiest xp in game. I maxed out trapping in just a few hours. What I did was this: 2000 bone and made a schematic for glow juice traps, threw them in a factory and a hour later had tons of glow juice crates. Next I filled an entire bar with glow juice traps (only other shortcut on my bar was my pet attack and come command). I then went to Lok and did Mynock (sp?) missions. You send the pet in to attack, and then call him to you and run. Soon you will only have one attacking your pet. Send your pet to attack it then you can throw the entire bar of traps at the mob. They weild 268 xp each and I easily got between 13k - 16k in trapping per kill. That is about 50 to 70 traps per mob.

I agree that throwing all types of traps at high level mobs is the best thing to do for XP. I am more then halfway finished with Trapping IV because of that. As far as camping goes, I also set up a camp whenever I have any downtime. Also what I do, (many people might find this boring but it has worked for me), I take two missions from the terminals and head out for the first one. After defeating the creatures and the lair I walk about 50 meters and set up a camp. After any fight you are bound to have wounds; sure, I could use my medic skills to heal them but I figure since I have to sit in my Field Base for 30 minutes anyway, I might as well let my base heal my wounds. I actually set up a camp after every missionI do.

This method helped me out greatly because now I only need to camp about four more times and I will be finished with Survival IV. (I can't wait to see the High Tech Field Base) Sure it takes some time, but then again when does camping not take time?

For Camping XP camp whenever you can. It's the worst of the grinding because if you do it by yourself, it will take you a half hour to get 1K XP. I would suggest going to places like the Krayt graveyard, and other good hunting areas as people will need camps in these places, and you will be able to max your XP a lot quicker like 10 minutes as opposed to 30. One of my ranger friends has been getting himself really wonded, and then sitting in the camp to heal and after like 10 minutes he's maxed out the XP. Not sure if that's the righ way to do it, but it works for him.

trapping is the easiest and the one I saved for last. Best way to do it, is load yourself with ton's of traps, go out in a good group, and hunt fairly large MOBS (Voritor Lizards on Dant give like 700-900 XP per trap) and you can usually hit 3-5 times per creature. I didn't even use my pistol once against them as my firends were taking care of that, and I was keeping the creature stunned. Worked nicely.

I have found that if you want camping or trapping xp, the only way to do it is in a good sized group. You can plop down a camp for 5 mins, maybe less depending on how much healing is going on, and max out your XP for it. After 5 mins disband and setup a new one. Most camps I have found last 10 mins max and then on to the next target. If they have pets in the group, they will need healing too...bonus!

Traps as stated should be tossed while the others deal the damage. You have to commit to focusing on your trapping and when that is completed you can worry about your weapons XP. Voritor Dashers (I think) on Dantooine are the 900/trap and the lowest voritor type had 720/trap. I was hitting them pretty consistently without many fails either.

I agree with the assessment on Dantooine. Unfortunately, I was only 2k trapping xp away from mastering it when I went to Dantooine. I joined a group that wanted one more player. We went for a few Voritor lairs and when I saw that I got my xp on one voritor, I was elated. Luckily, I had a master ranger about 800m away. He trained me. For anyone wanting to master trapping, take crates with you to Dantooine. I couldn't see why you couldn't have it all done in a few hours.

Ok,

This is how I mastered Ranger almost solo (except for the trapping portion.)

First principles:

1) Everything ranger-y that you craft gives survival xp, ie. camping xp.

2) Maskscent that is not broken gives scouting xp.

3) Low level planets are for scouts.

Now, I went to Dathomir which is pretty much the nastiest planet we have access to (until expansion ???)

Take advantage of (2) by using Maskscent. You are a ranger now, so you will hardly ever break MS. Then, run around the place. That's right, just run around basking in the red glow of all those creatures who would love to eat you alive. Kamuriths and Rancors are gonna give you 200 xp per pass (only once though...) which sure as hell beats shooting a bunch of kwi's or something for 79 scouting xp per harvest. Dath is *full* of red's so you don't even need to be creative for something like this. Just pretend you're training for a marathon.

In the off chance that you lose MS, stop. Stand still and more often than not nothing will attack you (thank you Devs!!!) If it does, burst the crap out of there and be prepared to MS as soon as you break combat. Also, try not to run towrads lairs, since the spawns will lag, and you might just face a new aggro mob. In any case, I rarely ever had a MS problem. You can easily make several K of scouting by just running around the place.

When you get bored, build a camp. While camping, craft tents. I haven't really figured out the best resource to xp ratio, but for a starting ranger camp and the field base (frontiering 2) you get about 188 xp per camp (practice mode.) I suggest doing this whether solo or in groups because, let's face it, sitting in a camp is reaaally boring. If you do the camp reset thing you can get ~3-4K during one camp setting, instead of 1.2K. This assumes that you have the resources to do this, but if you're hurting for that then perhaps you should try a different profession.

Personally, I found that resetting camps was a crappy experience, because the timer for gaining the camp xp is soooo slow. So, crafting traps and camps in practice mode helps alleviate the smoldering anger that began to develop over time as I was working my way up frontiering to the grand portable city (read that as high tech field base.)

Now, at some point, you'll need to group with ppl to earn trapping xp, unless you like dying a lot. But, my fellow rangers, this is why Dathomir is the greatest rangering planet in the galaxy. Almost everything there gives 460 xp or higher for trapping...if it's a beasty that is. Don't expect kwi's or malklocs to be xp banks, because they aren't. And rightfully so...they are soft and squishy and full of teddy-bear sentiments.

The real creatures to hunt for trapping xp are kamuriths, rhoa kwi, gaping spiders, blah blah blah... and you know the greatest.... the mighty Rancor (note the reverent capitalization.)

Rancors can give 2K per hit, if you are fighting the right kind. I have never hit one for less than 1.2 K. If you get a nice group of hunters together, and you use the right traps, you make 20-30K trapping on one dam_ beasty.

The right traps are of course, ones that cause state effects (to keep your mates alive) followed by a continuous deployment of traps that increase vulnerability; translation: traps that can be thrown over and over in one battle. These include glow wire traps and glow juice traps for starters. I can't remember if there are any others. And remember, you are crafting A--loads of these things while camping so you shuld be stocked to the hilt. Have at it.

The bonus is that you're gonna' pull roughly the same xp in harvesting that you got for the trap hit. That is, if a trap hit gave 2K xp, that's probably what you can expect for harvesting. I personally like harvesting bone on dath, other than kamuriths and flyers, they stack. Otherwise you have a bunch of reource piles and that just craps up inventory management. But whatever, if you want to walk away with 10's of thousands of hide, meat, and bone, stay on dath for a few days. Find a group of eager commandos or marksmen or (hehe this evil...) *entertainers* ( tee hee I told you) and encourage them to hunt the nastier elements of Dathomir. Challenge their ego if need be. But just be ready to back them up with traps and camps.

Anyway, I made master ranger doing these things with minimal grouping and lots of fun, because I got to run around in the wild all by lonesome. Somehow, that just felt right for a ranger.

And, if you have a PA or a regular group of hunting buddies, then you're going to hit master in a few days. That is, if you have the money or connections for training. But that's a whole other issue....
