I had an idea. How about some Ranger based player events? That should drum up a little more interest in the profession. Like a big hunt or something. Or a Ranger day when crafters and others can put out what they are after and a massive Ranger hunt goes on to acquire the required things.

Or something. It's a great profession with some nice abilities. We should do something to showcase them.

Iconic professions. Ok. Chewbacca was a Scout. How come that didn't stay?

When you think about it, aren't almost all of the original professions iconic? You can find something on each of them in the Expanded Universe.

I miss being a Ranger. It was more than a profession, it was a virtual way of life. It wasn't for everyone. But those who took it up became family.

Did you post this in your server's trade forums? Might be a good idea for groups/guilds of crafters to set up lists of resources and then invite Rangers and Scouts to a one-day scavenger hunt for the resources they need. Maybe make a competition out of it, assigning points for different types of resources, and have special prizes for the top scorers. If you get enough crafters together, and they can accumulate a crazy amount of organics and special critter-drops in one night, they should be more than willing to part with a few special items (or master-crafted items) made from those resources. For example, an armorsmith that needs Krayt scales to make armor is able to accumulate a few thousand scales in one "Ranger Night", they should have no problem parting with one suit of crafted armor for the one who brought in the most scales.

Everyone gets paid for what they bring in, but at slightly lower rates than normal. Rangers could team up to bring in large amounts quickly, but they will end up with the same amount of resources in the end, so strategies will develop as far as winning prizes. Nothing wrong with Rangers enlisting their guildmates to help with the hunting, since they will either split the resources anyway, or split the prize at the end. Solo scouts/rangers would still make decent money for one night of hunting, and would have an opportunity to tag along with more experienced hunters, to find those rarer harvests and loot drops. Heck, non-rangers could join in too, going for the loot drops instead of the harvested organics (unless they have a crate of veghash with them).

Great idea, but I think it needs to be started at the crafters' end. They need to tell us what they need and when they want it, and what's in it for us.
