I am trying to find the ideal combat temp for my Master Ranger...I dont want to drop master because of the harv bonus but at the moment I may not have a choice cos I can't kill anything!!!.

I have unfotunately used a load of sp on branches from the village so cant get to master rifles, so I tried dabbling, result...shocking and only level 78.

I have also tried BH 4444 - This got me to level 80 but wasted a load of sp on the inv branch!!

BH 0444 - Only makes me level 76 - but I have good specials and stuff.

So my question is how important is the Character Level??? Is it better to have a high CL or more options for fighting??

I'm wondering the same thing, as i am also experimenting with dropping BH down to 0/4/4/4 since i have no intention of tracking jedi. I also noticed my CL drop to 76 and wondered if that would be a problem.

I'm grinding village too. Would being CL76 actually be an advantage since I almost always hunt in groups (since CU) and am with other cl80 fighteres. Maybe it would actually help since you get more xp for killing mobs that are higher in level than you.

I'll be on tonight to experiment.

I am useing TKM with Master Ranger, it only leaves me 4 skill points to put into fs, but....anyway. These 2 masters give me a cobat lvl of 80, I have no problem takeing lvl 83-84 missions solo, with camo, and traps to pull one at a time away from a lair. I don't kill as fast as I used to but with the defence of TKM, I can take all day if need be.

My toon is

Master Ranger
Rifleman 2,0,1,4
Medic 0,4,3,0

and my CL is 68

It is pretty close to what I had pre-CU but now I have more medic after dropping CH

I can kill slightly faster than pre-CU, now I just use traps more instead of creature pets.

I must geta couple decent droids soon and try using them as well

It's not just your CL that you need to watch but your Offence Speed and Accuracy, and your Melee and Ranged Defences. (On ctrl+C).

Basically, get your accuracy as high as you can and, if you're ranged, keep your ranged def up, if you're melee then your melee defence is more important. Seems the amount of damage you can deal and that you take is calculated on the difference between your Offence Accuracy and the target's Defence.

I found that BH, while it gave a few good attacks, wasn't enough on its own and Rifles, while it let me hit hard also left the target in a position where they could hit back. A bit of mix and match might be the answer?

Bear in mind also that while ranger adds to your health and CL it does not add anything to your offence or defence mods. So with MR/MRM for example, you'll only have the combat abilities of a single combat prof. Somebody who has dropped a 'little' ranger and traded it for BH or Carbs will hit harder, take less damage and wil have a wider range of attacks available.

PS. At level 80, if you really can't kill 'anything' you must be doing something seriously wrong. Post CU combat is much more dependant on using cover, LoS, state attacks and the weapon between your ears.

If you're ranged, get prone, it increases your accuracy and you can still fight at point blank range while prone. I'm not sure, but it does 'seem' to improve your defences against both NPC and creatures. Stun/dizzy the creature, then move to a damage dealing attack (check your combat spam, state attacks do very little damage compared to an all out 'brute force' one).
