If you think about it though the professions that get assualt armor are fairly good damage dealers. As it stands right now Ranger doesn't really give you any offensive firepower except creature to hit and higher trap mods. I suppose one could argue that SL doesn't give much of an offensive punch but in a group setting their bonuses are significant. Personally I'm happy with the battle armor cert since most creatures we face do kenetic damage.

I've only got the armour I had, which was converted to compare. However, I have three types of armour (wookiee). My assault armour (which I can wear because I'm trying MBH) has better protection than my battle armour in all respects, including kinetic, which I was surprised at because I thought battle armour was supposed to be better kinetic protection.

The way armor works now in unlayered suits.

Unlayered armor will cap at 6000, For instance Battle Armor 6000 Kinetic resist 6000 Energy 6000 elemental

Recon armor will get a 1000 point boost in Energy resist and lose 1000 in Kinetic Energy 7000 Kinetic 5000 elemental 6000

Assault armor will get a 1000 point boost to Kinetic and lose 1000 to energy.

So battle armor is the all around armor and recon and assault get specialized.

An armor smith can use many different layers depending on what you want. Kinetic, energy or Primus layers.

Primus Layers add to both the Kinetic and Energy resist.

Kinetic layers add to the Kinetic resist while taking an equal amount from the energy resist.

Energylayers add to theenergy resist while taking an equal amount from thekinetic resist.

Personaly I am glad rangers are wearing battle armor I prefer a jack of all trades type of armor myself.

The only thing different in armor now is the condition.

Bone,Marauder,Padded and Faction armor will all have the same resist from a given smith its just a skin now. I've actually made some cool looking maruder armor with my alt lately.

BTW, I'm assuming light sabers are still a damage type of their own ?

Light sabers are considered an energy attack so teh energy resit of amor comes into play.

Actually, one would think that we'd get the Assault Armor Certification because most Creatures do kinetic damage and Assault Armor is the "Kinetic Specialized" armor.

Also, it's kind of weird too... that BH's get the Kinetic Armor when Lightsabers give Energy damage (and depending on the crystal they use, an added elemental damage).

I'm happy with Rangers having the battle armor cert though... means I can wear my Clonetrooper Armor.
If I want Mandolorian Armor... good thing I decided to go MBH as well...
