Thread: How to Hunt Solo Ranged

I have seen lots of posts saying folks can't hunt solo, but for some reason my methodology seems to work 100% of the time while hunting in the great outdoors.

Use a droid or a pet like a mount. I usually don't group with them... don't caree for any xp bonus when I am hunting for profit. I have two simple macros keyed up... /tellpet attack and /tellpet follow

Stand about 100m from the critters you want to hunt. Target a creature. Use the attack macro. The exclamation mark will appear over the creature's head. IMMEDIATELY spam the follow macro.

Once the creature is away from its herd, hit it with p-dart. If any question marks or exclamtion marks appear above the heads of the herd... tacticalwithdrawl and try again.

As soon as the snare takes effect tag the creature with your weapons of choice. Since I am ranged I let them come at me and usually end up either killing them before they get to me or using Melee Strike to knock them down and finish them off with a couple choice shots at point blank.

Skin them, have a sit, open a pint, heal up, rinse, repeat.

Key to this is being aware of where the herd is ( Use Radar... Key it in to 128m); whatthier mood is (Look for the Exclamation and Question marks) and using the tools that you have at hand(A droid or pet or mount, and P-Dart... don't leave the campsite without it).

I have heard reports of problems resulting in taking scouts first, I haven't seen this happen.... But to be safe might as well save them for last.

Also this methodology of hunting has worked with NPC pulls as well, but since I rarely do that I haven't used it nearly as much.

Thanks for the tip. I just use a normal (ie., non sticking trap) to lure one out, as traps don't seem to group agro now.

Throw a glow-wire trap and start backing up. If it sticks the critter will agro. Wait until the critter gets out of range of its fellows. Now throw a p-dart trap, hit with snare shot, etc....

Essentially throwing the first trap does the job that the pet does -- gets the critter out of range of its fellows. You could technically do this with a p-dart trap, but the critter will take longer to get out of range of its fellows. So, use a normal trap to get the critter to charge and then use p-dart to slow the critter down when it's out of range.

You just have to remember to turn your auto-attack off. If you hit iwth a trap and your auto-attack is on, you'll start shooting the critter and will likely draw the attention of its fellow. Of course, the pet trick avoids this complication....

This method even works on Krayts.

Unless one spawns on your head. That hurts.

or get a trapping droid, load with p-darts, macro a "fire trap" command, hit the command, plink away till dead with rifle. great thing bout the droid is you can trap and plink simultaneously.

I have no prob quickly soloing MOBs 5 lvls or even more above me with this tactic.
