Thread: Antarian Ranger Skilltree (done out of fun)

With the discussion about merging SL and Ranger, it seems like they are trying to bring the Antarian Rangers to life. Like so many other folks out there, I wish they would just fixed our separate professions like they’re supposed to, but I had a little fun drawing this AR tree up. I have a friend who is a Ranger, and I always ask him what RL Rangers do, and then I told him what SWG Rangers do. He said it would be nice if Sony added a knife for us, and gave us some kind of melee ability in the style of Filipino knife fighting (which we both practice).

Mind you, this is all for fun, and not a proposal or to make some so-called “uber” class. I put down different abilities that I saw from an old SWG Character Builder, the Wizards.com website, and both profession forums. I put down skill mods and abilities where I thought they would go, but you might feel differently. I also jotted down a bunch of little notes for Stealth, the Flurry and Riot abilities (especially how I came up with the names, and the rifle and blade. Let me know and I’ll put them down.

Again, this is not a proposal, it’s all for fun.

The idea if SL and Ranger were to be merged would be towards that of the AR i agree and the skill tree you hightlighted does make an interesting read. Hopefully it wont come to that, where both professions get merged but this is definatly the direction i would like to go if there was no alternative.

The weapon certs are very interesting aswel as the melee/ranged specials but i have my doubts whether we can support ranged and melee at once. Ultimatly i wish we could get melee and ranged mods but giving us two sets of weapons, 2 sets of abilities etc just seems unlikely. We will have to see and hope though

Well BH get 3 weapon skillsets so with the Rangers higher SP cost getting some certed weapons and skills doesnt sound too unreasonable does it?

Well the thing is, BHs are SUPOSED to be master weapon weilders and have requirements in ranged support to back this up. Im not saying we will never get weapons or even that we shouldnt go for them (i personally want a uber assault rifle), its just that we cant really demmand a weapon cert, we have to ask nicely and hope for the best

Well a Ranger-esque weapon cert and skills would be good for a ranger - however the weapons unfortunately have to come off the scout skillset (im not going to push my idea for ranger weapons here) but traps wont work as everyone gets debuff and root skills etc.

We should get some SERIOUS weapon love for our skill points!

Keep in mind, unless I'm wrong of course, that a RL Ranger and a SW Ranger are not supposed to be the same. A SW Ranger is more of an outdoorsman/hunter. Very skilled at being in the wild, and unbeatable for stealth, tracking and hunting in the wild. Their skills for fighting people and doing raids of enemy camps are limited, as the knowledge for creatures is quite different from humanoids. He isn't a lone fighter that uses guerilla tactics to kill his enemies, his enemies are all creatures.

This always seemed to me why it is so hard to give them a good skillset worthy of their skill points, as they can't just add combat skills and abilities.

ps though it was a good read. I agree with Owen-Lars, that a SL/Ranger combo would head this way, if there wasn't a choice. Thanks for the read
