The cu changed the prereqs for the combat professions. Therefore, if you had a full template pre CU, you would get pushed of the 250 SP cap post CU. You HAVE to respec (type /respec) before you can move again. Respecing is just trading in the skills you have for other skills. I will see if I can find a link to the dev posts on the respec system. The good news is, you have 2 weeks that you get to try diffrent profession combinations.

I see. I know what respec'ing is, done it in other games. I am just confused as to how I do it in this game. Something that looks like the skill box screen appeared but I'm not trying to screw with my guy and mess him up. Hopefully I can find some documentation on how to do it.

Isn't there the Show Help box in the top right on that screen too? It's been awhile for me so I can't remember for sure but if that's there you might try using that. Also if you are indeed logging in for the first time since the Combat Upgrade then you have a respec every 12 hours for 2 weeks, then a 1 time use freebie respec that expires when you log out and then a token respec lol.

YOu might be better off just asking here! One thing to note, all elite combat professions now require 2 lines of the novice prof and the elite medical profs also need 2 lines (dwon from master Medic). Here is a great character builder that may help you http://home-tdknet.dyndns.org/swg/cb/.

If you don't mind me asking, I am kind of in the dark of what the professions have become. What profs now complement Ranger? I remember rifleman and a few others, but I'm not sure of where my new path lies. Pikeman doesn't appeal to me anymore. But Calc you also said I would have 2 weeks to keep respec'ing and trying out new things?

Any professions that help you avoid damage complement Ranger.

Ranged professions: Rifleman / BH

I suggest CH if you want to save skill points. I took MR / MCH and 4004 Marksman.

Well, the Ranged professions seem to be the most popular choice (though I have heard of a TKA Ranger or two). Rifleman Ranger stills seems quite popular. A new popular template is MBH (they dropped the prereqs of BH, too) Master Ranger Squad Lead 0-3-0-0.

Now, about the 2 week respec period...yes, you get two weeks from your first login after the CU went live to respec (once every 12 hours). BUT the RAnger side of things is bugged in the respec. It costs 1 point per skill box more to get Ranger back than all of the other profs. Therefore, if you drop Ranger in the respec, you can't get it all back without releveling it. All other professions are equal trades, though. Look on the lower left of the respec window when hovering over a skill to see how many respec points it takes to get a skill (when you drop a skill, you gain respec points, vice versa).

You can respec any skills except Pilot skills (and Jedi, unless you have Jedi skills).

If you still have the full respec period to work with, as a 'First Aid' fix to getting moving and in-game, you could do worse than respec to Master Ranger / Master Rifles (Master Scout and the rifle and range support lines in marksman).

If you find it doesn't 'fit', you should be able to respec again in 12hrs.

Due to 'issues' with trapping and gaining trapping XP (plenty threads on the subject in this and the scout forum) I'd strongly suggest hanging onto the trap lines or, if you're doing a 'final' respec, making sure that you're keeping enough trapping boxes to give you a high enough Trapping modifier to match your CL.

Another issue that we've not had any sort of answer on is that the RANGER skill boxes cost 1 respec point more than any equivalent box in any other elite profession. We don't know why, it just 'is'. So, forewarned is fore-armed. IF you are planning on dropping Ranger boxes, be aware that you will need to pay more respec points to get them back than if you'd dropped, say, rifleman boxes.

If you DO have the full respec period left (and after all the changes am not 100% sure how many days you've got) have fun, try different combos but its a good idea to arrange to do your final respec on the day before your respec period runs out 'just in case' you lose connection, get booted, click the wrong box, etc.

Worst comes to the worse, you'd still have a 'token' respec left (a persistent, use once and destroy respec option), but it'd be a pity to accidentally nerf yourself

Thanks Alma. That's a lot to take in but I'm sure I'll figure out how to do it right. I don't plan on dropping Ranger of course, but I'm likely going to switch to rifles.
