Thread: Ranger questions... Template issues

Hi fellow rangers! Couple issues/questions I'm hoping someone can answer.

1) traps: several of my traps dont seem to work.. The one that is supposed to root for example.

2) since I can't seem to root anything, I am considering redoing my template.

My current template is Master Rifles, Master Ranger (no room for medic or anything as you're all aware!)

I have been debating a couple of options and would like input...( first off my modified dps on rifle is 466 w/out a powerup... not exactly crap). My 2 big issues with rifles, 1) I have to run away and shoot the whole time which is really boring and pathetic, 2) I can barely stand 1 vs 1 against a cl 80 animal. If I could root them with a trap, then MAYBE this wouldnt be so bad. 3rd issue is the armor. Recon armor simply doesnt have good kinetic resists.

Options I've been considering: switching to Mpistols, so I can root the animals. I'd also have kinetic based armor for better protection. opinion?

Option 2: TKM Ranger. Reason? Katarn Knuckler DPS 328, sliced about 355, PUP'd 380, +24 unarmed dmg sea =400 base... Plus I'd have their balance thing adding 500 to melee defence. Oh, and wouldnt need armor.

Option 3: Swords/Ranger Already got several good powerhammers. Armorbreak! good kinetic resist armor.

Basically I'm asking what's best to go with Ranger.... Is everyone having problems fighting cl 80 animals like I am?

1. The adhesive mesh doesn't work.

As per your other questions: Pistols work good for that root, and combined with your phenc-dart snare, it holds them off okay. But you'll never be able to not run as a Ranger because you have no real defenses outside of traps. Could always try MBH if you wanted, but you won't get too much different from your Mrifles outside of duelist stance.

As to your melee stuff, I haven't a clue how well those work, but I hear buff/food,etc, will keep you going.

Until a few days ago, I was Master Ranger, Pistolier 4/0/0/4, BH 0/3/4/0. Good speed, so-so defenses, great specials (including stopping shot), crap accuracy (but good enough for hunting, and crispic helps).

As for armor... you are certed for battle armor too, you know. One of the perks of mastering Ranger. Marauder armor has worked fine for me while hunitng, and with the above template it was cake to take down a CL 80 creature quickly and cleanly. Half the time I didn't even bother to put my armor on. Just hunt smart and take one creature at a time.

Getting a good pistol is a must, if you go that route. If you can buy or loot a good gorax shard, you can make a fine high damage, low SAC Featherweight FWG5.

For the most part all of the ranged professions will keep you running. Even pistoleer's stopping shot is on a timer so eventually the creature will come for you. Read the Guide to Big Creature Hunting as a Ranger, it is full of useful tips that you can use even on the "lesser" creatures. As for the melee professions I think the biggest problem will be the fact that you have to get close in and that will draw more than 1 creature at a time to you and that's never the best idea but.... each to there own. Currently I'm having fun as a Doc/Ranger, takes a good while longer to kill the creatures and my armor wears out like crazy but using tactics I find all regular creatures to not be much of a problem at all. Being able to self-buff and heal (you don't need stims or buff packs these days, it's all just a click away) pretty much makes taking these guys down a cake walk.

No matter what you decide on, get a trapping droid and remember that the best trap we have is still the p-dart. Everything else is Tactics...tactics and..... you guessed it TACTICS! Have a good one Mate and just pick whichever profession you think you'll have more fun with because that's what it comes down to in the end.

MRanger/TKM, I can stand toe to toe with anything up to lvl 83....but that is only one critter at a time. I pull one from around 45 meters out with a glow wire trap, when he get close...kd then another trap (socin pulse hehe), then proceed to woop his back side. I am completely useless agains npc/pc's.....which i kinda a bore not being to contribute in the GCW. I am about 90 % solo, due to the odd hours I play.

Rem. a Rangers greatest weapon is his/her/it'smind.

Note that pistoleers are certified for recon armor just like rifleman. And as someone else pointed out, as a ranger, you are certified for battle armor, which has even resists across the board. If you want assault armor, which natually has high kinetic resists, you could go master bounty hunter for that certification.

Also, TKM would give you the equivalent of 6000 armor protection, which is equivalent to perfect battle armor.
