Thread: Profession Dedication bonuses(idea)
Anyway, here goes:
Everyone complains that there is very little content left to an old time player who has done the theme parks, been a crafter, got every badge imaginable has engaged fulltime in the GCW, fought all the uber mobs and now are faced with just becoming a jedi like many others do.
I say give people a choice! I have seen some people play the game and always be the same profession. People very dedicated to their professions deserve something. Like Rangers. =)
I propose that after you have become a Master profession you would get the opportunity to begin a quest to prove your dedication. In order to start the quest you cant be active in the village. If you are FS you have to drop all FS skills and speak to an npc there to say your sick of their jedilike whining. Your gonna devote your time elsewhere. This is to prevent people from unlocking the xp caps and starting to gring up 50 million combat xp and trading it all in at once. Also, the FS bonuses could be stacked with whatever bonuses might come with Profession Dedication.
I'm thinking that once you finish your final box of Profession Dedication you cant go Jedi. Just as a Jedi cant drop an FS skills to get back to regular skills after they open their alt. Til you train that final box you can drop skills and and relock your xp caps and begin grinding FS if you want.
So, now we start a quest. Some nice npc Ranger dropped in the remotes of Yavin 4 could let you begin your quest. To start you have to do things specific to your profession quest wise to begin the path towards dedication. Add in your frilly rp to the quests n all that.
You go through a few quests and unlock your Dedication tree. Very similar to the Jedi Progression tree. Five boxes and each one you have to grind whatever xp your quest allows you to unlock the cap on. In our case it would be Scout xp/trapping xp. Both would count as this new dedication xp.
Now it becomes the usual go kill/grind til your sick in the face til you get your first box done. I'm thinking boxes should be high. 100 million xp added per box til the last box is 500 million xp.
Now, what you get in each box would be determined by the devs of course. I'm thinking of things specific to each profession. Rangers could get more bonuses to harvesting, maskscent/camo, whilst walking/running terrain negotiation bonuses, specific clothing with mods(hats!), new titles, the ability to train the novice box of your profession and for weapon oriented professions new rare weapons that cant be traded. No decay(maybe). I'm thinking Rangers should get a blue rug kit kinda camo machine that will hold 1k of each resource needed to make a camo kit for all the planets. Then you just hit apply on each planet with it. So no more carrying around tons of kits or resources for that sudden need. And for filling your final box you get another character on the same server just like Jedi do.
This would add some content, remove the endgame of being a jedi and reward the people who dont want to be a jedi or are just really in love with their professions.
I would flat love something like this to be added into the game.
Any thoughts?

What I like about the idea most is, that it is very simple, not massively complicated, just the non Jedi equivalent for people who really love this game and their profession.
I really hope someone can talk the DEVs into this
Wow, no wonder GarVa deleted it. This is an excellent idea that would turn the game on it's ear.

(very out of place) in the opening paragraph not because the idea was
bad.

No, I never blamed Garva or anyone for deleting the thread due to my idea. Which I would have to say barely saw the light of day since as I posted he deleted the entire thread not seconds afterwards. Garva I would have bet just barely seen it before deletion. Let alone anyone else. Also, I must say I was planning on posting this idea elsewhere than at the bottom of a jedi thread complaining about too many jedi. Threads are deleted in the Jedi forum quite often and justly I would say. It sucks in there.. lol. /wave Garva |

That sure would require dedication for so many points of experience. GG, 500 mil for the last box?! That would be 1.5 billion scouting / trapping xp!!! I mean, nice idea, perhaps place the immersive or "overpowered?" abilities there. Since the Devs don't seem to want to give us radar concealment like we should have, maybe they could put it there. Along with the toggled burstrun, battle camp idea from Owen himself, and the trap launcher. |

Thats another good idea. The options are fairly varied as to what each profession could do. Ideas from each profession could really bring it forward into a more solid state of ideas. I must also say that doing this would really stop the FotM goobers from flip/flopping and grinding all the time. This really encourages a longer subscription time for alot of people so they can get more money and we get bonuses/cool stuff and an alt account later on. |

Well, the numbers are just general place holders in theory so we get the idea of the amount of dedication required to achieve the the goals set within. These could always be tweaked of course. |

I really thought about a minimum time logged or some other option taken to make the dedication quests but I figured anyone who dives straight into the dedicated life is a person who has played a while and is doing this with specific wants as an experienced gamer. I figure any new player is going to want to experiment and learn about other professions before choosing the dedicated path. Perhaps there should be a maximum of 2 times you can go dedicated. So, you cant just try it and say meh... screw it and drop it to try something else. Make sure someone is serious when they go to it. |

In response to the amounts of XP... I have no clue what the rest of y'all are doing, but I am currently grinding around attempting to fill FS boxes. Consider a group of eight people, all about CL 80. Bol missions. In 32 missions I am maxing out rifles, carbines and getting a decent amount of pistol. Some trapping. But... and this here is a big but... I have tons and tons and tons of Scout XP. I think I max someplace in the million range (I dunno, it's really high, only did it once). At the 8-1 exchange rate in the FS village, I currently have... drumroll please....1.5 million FS XP in Senses. That is after filling 4 boxes (another 1.225 million points). Kairene's XP requirements would be easy to get. Considering you get 1weapon xpfor a level 50 creature, but full Scout xp for harvesting. I betcha I could be an elite/elite in far less time than I have been mucking about trying for a second toon. JB |

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 Reasons... 1: The evil ones we are trying to avoid also have enclaves on Yavin 2: Shouldn't be Dath, as there are too many wannabe evil ones there already. 3: Look at the conceal icon... it's an Ewok hiding in the bushes, therefore "our" planet MUST be Endor. Otherwise, yes... elite elite profession as has been tossed about before FTW. |

I think I'd prefer a time-based and quest-based system, rather than "go get tons of XP". I turn in lots of XP too, solo hunting. Max Carbines is about 2 days hunting for a couple of hours a day. Max Scouting at 1.2 million in under a week. But I really hate the fact that it's all about how to grind, rather than having fun. I'd rather be able to play as a Ranger for a while, get a mission that led me to a deeper understanding of what it meant to be a Ranger, rather than simply doing the grind thing. Killing a hundred thousand Grauls doesn't make youa Ranger. Learning the skills and the tricks of the trade does, though. |

Sounds cool to me, especially since I just finally mastered the 2 proffessions I've been working on for a while I felt a sudden confussion on what to do next and something like this would be a good addition for players who have been around.

I really like this idea. I wonder if instead of (or in addition to high xp requirements - which really make casual gamers suffer), there could also be a time in the profession requirement. In other words, say 3 months at being master before you can even consider beginning one trial, 6 months until the other trial, etc.... The thing about xp requirements is that these systems will always favor the power gamers (for example, the way jedi (after you get padawan) is now), and those who can't dedicate 24/7 to grinding xp get the short end of the stick. A time requirement would also serve to balance out possible issues that having an enhanced skillset might raise - it would mean, for example, that the most super advanced elites would be rare because only a few people would be willing to stay in the profession the required amount of time. And, there is, after all, a time component to jedi - you can grind xp as fast as you can, but it will take at about 5 months (6 phases * 3 weeks per phase) to get jedi from scratch. Anyway- just my thoughts. Iseult Master Ranger / Mediocre Carbineer Bloodfin |
