Hi everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself to the board. I'm new to ranging, just got novice ranger yesterday. I'm keeping myself very busy reading all the wonderful information that you all have posted here. I have so much to learn about this profession! I'm very excited about all the really cool adventures you can have as a ranger.

I think my template is going to be as follows: Master Rifleman, Master Ranger, and as much combat medic as I can have so I can heal myself.

My ultimate goal will be to solo the Krayt. Then I'll consider myself to be the 'ultimate huntress' hehehee.

I'd love to meet some of the other rangers in the game. I play on Radiant and my name is LadyLaz Lazor. I've been grinding the majority of the way up on bols out of MO. However, as soon as I hit CL 30 I'm going to start venturing off on my own solo hunts just to start experimenting with a good approach.

I'm totally new to SWG, and I still have to learn about the right foods, armor, weapons, lol just about everything. So it's hard to balance my time spent on game with time spent learning from reading forums. I JUST WANT TO PLAY! lol!!! but I know that I'll play much better and train more efficiently if I spend some time researching and reading.

I'd love to go out with a master ranger someday and watch to see how a hunt should be done. I'm so impressed when i see someone who is using all their skills and tools to the best advantage.

If you dont mind, I have a few newbie questions here, dont answer if you dont feel like it cause i'm sure I'll find the answers somewhere here on the boards.

1. I'm confused about ranger armor vs rifleman armor cause it seems like they're two different types and I'm not sure which i should wear.

2. I'd like to start selling some of my hides (i just gave away 100k of bol hides to someone cause they had a friend who's an armor smith lol) I'm not sure - there's a cap on the amount you can sell for on the public bazaar. 20k i believe? If I'm not a merchant - how can i create a vendor? If the merchant creates it for me, would they have access to my wares for sale?

3. I read the thread about all the wonderful ranger equipment and saw the post about the backpack (the name escapes me right now). How do I get that backpack? I saw 4 on vendors but they were only being stored. lol the price was like - 99 mil

Anyway, Its lovely to meet you all and I wish you all happy hunting!

Just a heads up but as a master rifleman and master ranger you'll only have 4 skill points left over. the only thing you can really do with them is dump them into FS boxes.

Oh and welcome to being part of the best lifestyle in the game.

Welcome We always enjoy new Rangers
I think my template is going to be as follows: Master Rifleman, Master Ranger, and as much combat medic as I can have so I can heal myself. after MRifles/MRanger you will have 4sp left. so no CM, sorry (ranger takes up more SP than any other profession)

One thing to do to meet other Rangers is to see if your server has a RIN (ranger information network) chat channel, and if it does join it!

Ranger armor is Battle armor (marauder, padded, bone, or Kash Black mtn for wooks) Rifle armor is Recon (Ubese, Tantel, Mabari, Ceremonial for wooks). Battle armor has the same resists across the board, i.e if you buy armor of 5755 protection it will be 5755 Kinetic, 5755 Energy and 5755 for all the elemental damage. Recon Armor adds 1k to Energy, and subtracts 1k to Kinetic. For example the same 5755 base will have 6755 energy resists, 4755 Kinetic Resists and 5755 Elemental resists. Personally i would go with whatever you have more mitigation on (it's in your skill box and that will tell you when you get mitigation.) mitigation tells you how much you are able to wear without penalty. For example if you have 20% speed mitigation for recon armor and your speed penalty with the recon armor you bought is 40%, the penalty on your speed will be an overall 20%. To find this out just /examine a piece of armor. Armor mitigation will come as you get more skill boxes.
2. I'd like to start selling some of my hides (i just gave away 100k of bol hides to someone cause they had a friend who's an armor smith lol) I'm not sure - there's a cap on the amount you can sell for on the public bazaar. 20k i believe? If you're not a merchant (more than likely cause you'll only have 4 sp left) then you can either, sell on the bazaar, or the more common way is to make crafting contacts and set up contracts for stuff when it spawns. AS's want Dantooine Wooly hide, Lokian Leathery hide and Nabooian Bristley hide, all good OQ/SR.They want other hides as well, but these are the main ones. Any Wooly, scaley, or leathery hide with good OQ/SR will be good for AS's as well. So keep an eye out for these. (SWGCraft.com and SWGCreatures.com are good places to look). Also BE's and Chefs are always looking for good meat with good OQ/Flavor/PE.Check the trade forums and see if anyone is buying a certain resource and what their price is. Also join the RIN because other rangers, who already have good contacts established, also have good knowlege, and hunting with other rangers gives you a buns to your harvesting.

3. I read the thread about all the wonderful ranger equipment and saw the post about the backpack (the name escapes me right now). How do I get that backpack? I saw 4 on vendors but they were only being stored. lol the price was like - 99 mil
Find a Tailor. They should be able to make a backpack for you. Also try doing the galaxy wide vendor search, if you can't find a tailor. There should be a Tailor for hire thread in the tailor forums.. look there (make sure they don't sell h**pants )
Anyway, Its lovely to meet you all and I wish you all happy hunting! Happy hunting to you too, and welcome to Rangerdom. Ask Owen for your hat and camo pants

Crap html problems... i will fix this... hope this is fixed now... maybe now

As Deadtech said, you can't really get anything else if you master Ranger and Rifleman.

My ultimate goal will be to solo the Krayt. Then I'll consider myself to be the 'ultimate huntress' hehehee.

A noble goal that is. If you pay atention to some of the seasoned vets around here, you will pick up some useful tactics to help you achieve you goals!

I would suggest doing what you want to do, an JUST PLAY! Food and buffs and whatnot are certainly helpful, but if you get too tied up in the little things, you can burn yourself out quickly. Food and buffs are certainly not necessary to play this game, and frankly, I never use them. They are a hassle that the Devs took the time to try to make less important for everyday gameplay and I think they succeeded.

/proud! You will have much success with that attitude .

1. I'm confused about ranger armor vs rifleman armor cause it seems like they're two different types and I'm not sure which i should wear.

The quick version: Rangersare certedwear Battle Armor (which protects against Energy and Kinetic damage equally) and Riflemen are certed for Recon Armor (which has more Energy protection but less kinetic protection than Battle Armor). As a Ranger, you will be spending a lot of time fighting critters that deal Kinetic damage, so the higher kinetic damage protections you have, the better (i.e. Battle armor is generally better for you).

You can sell your items face to face (via trading) or you need to have Artisan-Business 3 to be able to set up a vendor. This is unattainable with your template. You can sell as much as you want on the bazaar, but the price limit is 20k (you can put 100k stacks on the bazaar). You are also limited to 25 (or is it 20) items for sale at a time. If you use a Merchant to sell your hides, they will have total control over your stock. They will run the vendor, stock it, and collect the money. This shouldn't be a problem, unless you manage to find a dead beat. Anothe option is to use you Galaxy's Trade Forum. You can run auctions there and will generally be given a waypoint to a vendor where you can deliver the auctions. Some Rangers like to hunt via contracts (you get a set amount of a certain resource for a certain price). THis eliminate the hassle of finding someone to buy your resources, but it also locks you in to hunting a specific thing until you fulfill the contract.

3. I read the thread about all the wonderful ranger equipment and saw the post about the backpack (the name escapes me right now). How do I get that backpack? I saw 4 on vendors but they were only being stored. lol the price was like - 99 mil

You just have to find someone selling them. There is a schematic you can loot (I am not sure from what), but you might try contacting a Tailor to see if they have any made up, or if they have a schematic the can se to make you one. Oh, it's a Spec Ops Backpack, btw.

Anyway, Its lovely to meet you all and I wish you all happy hunting!

Welcome!!!

Wow what great information! Thank you both very much

Eep so no CM! That's a shame, i suppose I'd better find a good Stimpack seller lol!

Well I think I'm going to take your advice and just hop on game and start doing a little trial and error learning

Oh and if anyone needs traps on radiant server, I'm making kajillions in my factory lol. Just send me a tell and I'll gladly donate some for your trapping grinding or whatever needs that you have.

Cya out in the forests, plains, and deserts! I'll be the one hiding under a rock trying to set up my toolbar hehehehee

I did some checking and the unmodded pack is called the Spec Ops Pack. The Modded on (+5 camo and MS, +3 Melee and Ranged Def) is called a a Spec Ops Field Agent Pack. You will have to clarify that to a tailor, if you ask them.
