Thread: My run to the Lok Volcano and back.
I have read about this run as sort of a "Rite of passage" for many Scout related classes. As a still very Novice Ranger, I thought I would go and tackle it. Well, to my suprise it was a fairly easy and lonely run. I read about all of this Scouting XP that rolls in when you make the run. I got about 3k worth of it during the 1.5 hoursish it took to make the run. Not exactly an XP factory, but some nonetheless.
At the volcano, I ran up to the top to poke around and see what there is. To my suprise, there were many houses right down inside where the lava normally is. I had been running around it to avoid any damage or possible death until I saw the houses. I couldn't believe that one could set up a house there let alone run across it. These houses sure are durable in the distant future, not to mention the shoes/boots we have.
The run back was equally boring with only having to burst run once during the whole trip. It was from some Pirate-type NPC. I didn't remember the name only the fact that the first hit he did was for 700+ damage. That was an eye opener. I guess that I expected more out of the trip. I expected to see the cloning center a few times on my way out and to end it with a quick trip back to the cloning center when done. I also expected to be getting a lot more Scout XP than I did. I must have taken this trip after some sort of planetary nerf as I could probably have set my coords, hit auto run and walked away from the game and still made it there. I now wish I would have done this earlier when it was an actual challenge. Is there a place one can go to test the limits of Maskscent? That is really what I am looking for and to see the sites on other planets.
Sorry I cant answer your maskscent question.
I would like to know, are the houses palyer houses or static game generated houses?
I might just run out there for my self.

Sorry, but I have to pick nits here: it's "a long time ago," actually ![]()
I'm sorry to hear that the Lok run wasn't everything the brochure promised. I've actually been thinking about making it myself, but I may hold off a few weeks with this in mind (still want to do it, but more of the experience than the XPerience, if you know what I mean). If you're looking for some crazy maskscent XP, though, I might recommend Dathomir. Some may disagree (and hey, I'm hoping someone does so I can get some better ideas), but I've been racking up maskscent XP on Dath like it's going out of style.
I wrote this post in the main forum a while ago and I still think it is important.

I did the lok run about a week ago and quite enjoyed it. I kept looking around to find any unusually stuff. about halfway down slightly to the west of a direct line from Nym's to the Volcano ('Mount Chalot?') is a village that was under attack from young kimagila's which was fun to watch, till theirMum turned up. I was about to bolt for it, when an NPC with a heavyweapon of somesortappeared and proceeded to kill the mother Kimagila, nearly dying himself. The guy wasagro to me so after he was finished, i though i would take the opportunity of his injuryto kill him in case he dropped anything cool, unfortunately not.He was some sort of bandit i found out from the -800 faction i got for his execution, he must have been pretty tough to begin with as he had soled a kimagila.
The mountain/volcano is pretty impressive you can see it rise over the plain from qute a distance and the music when you climb it is perfect, there is glowing lava towards the top, which you can unrealistically run over. The 'houses' you can see are inside it and are actually machinery, the entrance is on the southern side of the mountain , almost directly south of the summit. When i arrived the entrancewas surrounded by 3 enraged Kimagilas which were fighting amongst themselves so i did not have much problem getting past them.inside it's full of nyms droids, i didn't get far in before encountering a droidika that was too tough for me to get past.
Didn't see any domesticated meat :-(
Aho
Dathomir and Yavin IV are the best planet to run through for mask XP, in my experience.
They have the largest population of aggro monsters. Dantooine and Lok have a lot of yellows, and on Endor the Pubhams and other assorted nasties are NPCs and don't fall under the effects of Mask. Most of the creature mobs on Endor aren't aggresive either.
Yavin is especially sweet. 120 Scouting XP for every Giant Crystal Snake you negotiate past, and the same for all the Kilkniks I think.
Dath is a lot harder, but I have gotten across the planet pretty well when solo, with no pet out. On Dath if you do get detected, at least it ends quick with a one shot kill. Plus those darn Nightsisters and Singing Mountain Clan witches are everywhere.
Lok to me is still the hardest planet, because of the Droidekas. They are CL 125. Resists are ALL in the 70s if not higher, and they have over 10k HAM. I don't like Lok much at all.
Anyways, on Bria the Animal Bones have insane numbers right now. Snorbals are the best for it. It's got OQ of over 900, and SR over 900. Good money for that stuff.
talking about lonely, yeah some of these planets are just plain empty when you get away from the settlements anymore. I've run as close to the four corners of Endor as my boredom would let me.... Just a vast empty planet.
I guess they're saving resources for the computers?
/shrug
They are player purchased and placed houses. They practically fill the entire inside of the "bowl" of the volcano.

Looks like Yavin IV is my next destination.
now spawns arent nearly as often out in the boonies..but it used to be, just cruising around the middle of the map meant you were still dodging lairs that were 60-100m apart all over the place( before the mask timer, and a bit after is when i last recall seeing it like this)
it was a fun trip, i zig-zagged lok a tone that day, prolly ran in such a way that i saw 80% of the terrain ..fun times
but now its really just a ..aim and afk once you get passed the ring of annoying death around the stornghold
