Thread: Why aren't we the best Hunters ????

I posted this on another thread but thought it was important enough to make a fresh post.

My point is a Master Ranger should be theBEST at killing large dangerous critters.

Hunt Master, Trap Master have to mean something, not just be fancy names.

Bounty Hunters should be the best at tracking down and "Hunting" people.

Commandos should be the best at raw destruction on the battlefield. Think Rambo.

Brawlers should wipe anyPERSON that gets close to them and should have tricks that allow them to get close.

The Marksmen and other Brawling classes should have their advantages.

A Ranger should have NO advantages when fighting NPC's and other Players. Maybe even some minuses since they focus so much on hunting animals. They should be able though to draw on their other class skills that they have.

BUT a Ranger should have the gamesBEST, yes I said BESTadvantages and skills when HUNTING big game. Period.

A Ranger should do MORE damage to large critters than Bounty Hunter. A Bounty Hunter is an expert at finding and killing people not huge rampaging beasts.

The raw destruction folks, like Imps using ATST's or Commandos using flame throwers should be allowed to do their massive damage to critters, since it only makes sense but it should be at the expence ofa moderate amount ofXP and harvested materials because they are destroying the creature not making a clean big game hunter kill like Ranger would.

1. Rangers Traps should be SIGNIFICANT DoT's. (Damage over Time) As well as slowing, debuffing. Master Rangers should have the best trap. The traps should be very powerful and require a real commitment to the Ranger class not just zip up one tree to get them as a "hobby" Ranger. Example: Make the Trapping IV trap require all other Ranger skills at level 3.

2. Rangers should get REAL to hit Critter bonuses. Real means better and ones that work. Maybe even add a minus to hit on NPC's and players. Note a Critter pet is still a Critter.

3. Rangers should get SIGNIFICANT Critter only Critical hits chances. Rangers know how to kill big game, where to aim to do the most damage. There is no reason why a Master Ranger should not have a chance at a 3 or 4K crit. Maybe even a 5k on the biggest critters.

4. Toimplement the above it might be necessary to introduce as others have suggested a Ranger only Weapon(s).

If they did all of the above, I would not mind if they greatly increased the points required and XP required to get Master Ranger. Allow people to dabble in Ranger if they want but to get the very best and significant abilites to hunt and kill big game have it cost the ability to much of anything else.

If a group is going to hunt Krayts they should beg to have Rangers join, not Commandos or ATST equiped Imps etc. As it is now, "Oh, ya lets take a Ranger we might need a pretty camp that can be seen from a distance to have a rally point."

Of course the camp issues trackingetc need to be fixed also.

There should be enough non critter encounters out there and scaled properlyto keep the Brawlers, Bounty Hunters etc happy. Let them do critter mission also but let the Ranger be the master of critter mission.

I don't want the Ranger to be most Uber class, the master of death and destruction BUT a Ranger should be the BEST at HUNTING and KILLING wild beasts. Period, end of story.

Some very good points, I agree that a Ranger should be the best at Hunting PERIOD.

The problem with this isn't what we would like to see, but in SOE'S scheme of things.
How would they "Balance this".

I'm all for getting better PVE abilities. DOT traps are one way to do it, critical hits are another way.

just tossing around some ideas here

Good question but we are already out of balance.

As I said, add balance by making it point expensive and XP expensive to get to Master Ranger and get the best abilities. If you want to be be a Master Ranger you have to give up a ton of those other skills.

Add balance by making the classes the best at what they are supposed to the best at and weakening them at the things they are not the best at. EQ is pretty good at this after 4 years. lol

Like I said make Rangers weaker at PvE NPC's and PvP. Make Commandos less effective against Critters by having them "damage" the goods lowering XP and harvest. ( Not picking on any class here, lord knows Commandos have had their problems.)

Bounty hunters should be great against NPC's and PvP etc, etc.

There are enough ways to do all off this.

I am not a Ranger yet, but definitely agree that when it comes to hunting, they should be at the top. Who else...

I agree that rangers should be better at killing animals, they should get bonuses to hit and damage. But they defiently should not get disadvantages for killing other players or npc. Rangers are masters of the wild and know the animals and monsters in them, there for should know weaknesses. I am in untter disagreence in making rangers get disadvantages for killing other things.

Well I agree, to a certain extent.. but then consider someone mixing commando and ranger and you got a guy even krayt dragons would run screaming from.

I don't mind us not being able to deal more damage, but rather get lots of skills and objects that help us to bring down prey. The snare traps are a very good example which can help you bring down much larger critters. Maskscent and conceal gives you extra "free" shots.. which is also a big bonus. But I would like to see more of these.

I'd prefer ranger requiring the smart play to bring down creatures rather than the standard dishing out more damage.

I'm still all for a ranger specific weapon which works better on critters and is pretty useless in PvP

I'm all for more and better traps

i'm all for increased ranger abilities as well as higher req's...

I agree with the mixing.

At tracking I I am currently the best hunter for CH's, and that doesn't involve killing creatures.

In a group hunt I was the best person to confirm there were no Krayts in the area.

There are combat classes that you still have Skill points to use in, select one of them. Keep Ranger more to Ranger skills other than combat, make traps trap certain creatures, improve tracking, make camps better, improve abiltiy to scout and be safe.

If you wish to be a great creature killer, dump perhaps camps, scouting, and take up a killing proffession that hones in on killing shots.

I can see how you want to mix Ranger in with knowing more about creatures, but then that does start moving in on other professions, a Ranger might be better at knowing a creature, but oblivious of how to use a Flamethrower. And who says that if you do train as a commando, part of that training is for using that weapon against a creature?

Use what game knowledge you pick up, lead Torturs into Krevels so they attack each other, know how to use hills against what creatures. Some of that might come from improved stats shown on creatures as a ranger skill.
