Thread: NRaas or the Ranger Developer Tracking Requests
NRaas or the Ranger Developer :
The "tracking" pop-up dialog box for rangers. Please make this pop-up dialog box to be multi-column and sortable.
For example, if I search for animals... you currently get an UN-SORTED list of animalsby name and location.
It sure would be nice to havea couple ofcolumns and to be able to click the "Name" column and have the animal list sorted by name... or to be able to click the "Direction" column... or distance column...and be able to sort by name / location / distance.
"An On-Screen Arrow to point the way" Suggestion
Also, if I "click" on the name of the Animal and click "OK"... I should have a arrow on the screen "point" to that location for several seconds.
As opposed to me having to look at the mini-radar and make a best guess.
I've heavily considering become a Creature Handler / Ranger and had the preceding change would be much appreciated.
NRaas can you consider adding this to your list of considerations?
Anyone else think these 2 suggestions would be nice to have and probably EASY to implement?
1) Sortable columns for Name / Direction / DistanceTracking pop-up dialog box.
2) On-screen arrow that points the way for like 3 seconds based on what animal/npc/pc selected.
"Sortable Tracking List Window"
Good idea... I like that better than the Tree Window idea suggested previously.
"Waypoints"
That one may be easy to do, but most likely it won't be implemented...
There are some Rangers that think that a waypoint would remove all the tracking from the tracking system. ![]()
Forgive, I wasn't clear...
I'm not suggesting a Waypoint be created... just a blue arrow that blinks on the screen for like 3 seconds.... no waypoints at all.
That way I don't have to look at the mini-radar.
Or, flash the arrow on the mini-radar for like 3 seconds in the direction for the target thatI selected.
Thanks for the prompt response! ![]()
I love the sorting idea. That would so helpful if you are looking for a specific type of creature, or anything that is close, or anything in a certain direction. Great Idea.
The arrow is a nice one too. NRaas what I think nolan is looking for is something to be a little more specific in direction. When you see something to the West, well going west has a pretty wide range between North West and South West. You can, and I do plenty fo times, wander to the side of the creature and miss it totally. If we had an arrow, it would tell us in which straight line to go in to find it.
Now I guess I can see what some rangers are saying about having a waypoint would make tracking lame. But way back when, the devs first said they were going to put /areatrack and /conceal and camo kits in. In that same post they said along with /areatrack they were going to put in /track. The difference was that areatrack does what it does, scans the area and gives you general info on where to find it. The /track command was supposed to give us a waypoint to something. With no real gaurentee it was there of course, but it shouldnt be far unless it got killed.
So are you saying to totally gave up on that? Because I have not forgotten about /track, and figured they were just working on it.
"is looking for is something to be a little more specific in direction."
You can always use /areatrack again once you have moved a bit in the general direction of the target, that is what I do.
Since /areatrack uses no HAM and takes less time to perform,a Rangercan do it as many times asthey want.
Gauging the distance travelled is pretty easy as well... A Ranger can drop a waypoint at the time they use the command, and then use the waypoint monitor to determine the distance travelled from that spot. ![]()
"Because I have not forgotten about /track, and figured they were just working on it."
I figured /track to be a different puppy, entirely separate from /areatrack... A new tool to spawn lairs on demand.
Though I can see now that the two commandscould possibly be combined to produce waypoints to existing creatures. Interesting. ![]()
I don't know whether this is GreenMarine's actual intent though... We will see once he has released the changes.

So did I, before we got /areatrack. But then since we get the list and you can click/select something on it, I thought maybe it would be similar. If you typed /track it did the exact same thing as areatrack, with the list. You then would click on the creature you wanted, and Click OK. This would create a WP to that creature you selected.
You might be right on the creating lair thing. That sounds familiar. But that would be ruining tracking. I'd rather have it be like my example above. It doesnt' spawn anything, just takes right to do one already in existance. It could still move away, get killed or despawn.
So many possibilities.
"I wanna see more creatures not empty window!"
I presume by empty window you mean the test part in the top half...
I've never tried resizing the window myself, prefering to scroll through the list.
I will add the request though. ![]()

I believe this is why /track has not been implemented yet. If it was simply an extension of /areatrack, it would have been pretty easy to add it in at the same time.
However... If it is the create a new spawn system, that would take a little more work to implement, and hence the delay we are seeing. ![]()
