i want to be a ranger but alot of it seems useless for tka.

snaring and rooting traps are pointless when you cant kite, most of the other traps cause effects that a tka can do,crawling faster is also pointless since i never use prone, and the new ranger traps also seems to help ranged more than melee

any tka/rangers got anything smart to say ;o?

I'ma TKM and Ranger. Regarding combat, in the Ranger line you get a Creature-to-Hit bonus, this is most useful especially since TKs can deal a lot of damage really fast. I agree that traps such as adhesive mesh are pointless, since we're up in the creature's face most of the time. But there are also traps that lower a creature's melee defense, which I believe enhances our ability to attack it with our fists. The camoflauge skills of the Ranger are also useful for sneaking up on NPCs and MOBs to get in range, ... especially if those NPCs are carrying guns. First strike capability is essential if you can only attack when you're 4 meters away from the MOB. Try running up to a MOB to punch it without maskscent or camoflauge, ... it isn't pretty.

Enhanced terrain negotiation is also useful when chasing after those sissy ranged folk when they start to kite.

That creature to-hit bonus is a RANGED creature to-hit bonus. If you hover your mouse over the skill in the skill widow you'll see that it says that this mod is ONLY applied to standard ranged attack (i.e. non-special moves). Sorry, it sucks as I'm working towards TKA, too. It is something rangers have suggested to aplly to melees in the past. Though I do not know if NRaas has brought that up to Greenmarine as well.

Oh well, I always thought that I was hitting the critter harder because of the creatuer-to-hit bonus. Apparently I'm a buffer chick than I thought since I could slam that thing to the ground pretty hard.

Personally my philosophy is do not take an open hand to a gunfight, but hey...that's me.

Granted, TK does a buttload of damage... to NPCs that stand still and animals that charge ya. At long range, uhhhh...throw rocks maybe?

I just saw a wanna be TK'er grinding xp on meatlumps...the boy is trashed out, big black lines. I can stand there all day, same spot, and all that goes up is my BF, so worried I just waylaid a couple of hundred baddies.

From what I can see, Ranger is geared more towards the weapons carrier. But then again, most people don't hunt using kung fu.

Not a flame, just an opinion.

Eventually TKAs can do away with their black bars though. Kind of like a rite of passage getting there though, like walking on coals or letting bugs nibble on you. I agree that ranger is more geared toward ranged weapons in general and the rifle in particular (well, so I think anyway), but if you have some medic skills thrown in, tka/ranger is a good PvE combo. Makes you pvp food tho.

Im working on a pikeman/ranger combo myself so this may apply and may not. I make the traps work for me where possible. I use bleeds on creatures then use adhesive mesh to stand off and avoid hits. Switching back and forth between p. darts and amesh will usually keep a creature at bay as long as you need. glow wires will lower combat defense and a variety of them are good to cause a status before you actually land a blow.
