Thread: A question from a Bounty Hunter

I just read read the dev responses to the Ranger top 5 bugs (sorry for trolling, I like to keep up on ALL the professions).

I was shocked to discover that Rangers cannot use camoflage on humanoid NPC's. I just don't understand this design choice at all. I thought the point of a Ranger was to have advanced knowledge of the environment and to use it to your advantage. As a very advanced Scout, I would expect a Master Ranger in the hunting party to be able to go into virtually any terrain, any creature lair, and hide from virtually any opponent.

Not only, does the no camoflage against humanoid NPC's make any sense, but the fatc of the matter is, that the camoflage ability of the Ranger class should, IMHO, extend to player characters, as well. It just makes good sense for the abilities of the Ranger class built on top of the Scout template.

Why is this not a Ranger abilty and what has been the objection to it (if any)?

If I'm off track here, please someone set me straight. If anyone knows why the design choices that I've outlined have been made, I'd be interested in knowing that, as well.

Not 100% accurate... We CAN use camo against NPC's.. however, there is a bug, that we presume they are fixing (but can't tell you for sure as there has been no feedback.) And that bug is one where certain NPC's will just ignore your camo. It doesn't "break" your camo, meaning your camo doesn't "drop" when they detect you (which there is always a chance of by the way).. its that they simply ignore it and aggro you.

Some folks think its related to severely bad faction standing.

Actually, if you read the responses to the top five, the bug isn't that the camo doesn't work on some NPC's, the bug is that is DOES work on ANY npc's. Unless they reconsider, their idea for "fixing" camo is to make camo useless against any npc's. That's why so many Rangers are angry these days. camo shouldn't drop against npc's according to the devs, because it shouldn't apply to them at all.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

The actualy description for camo says it is used against NPC's, it has said that from the beginning. And it works.

So basically, we don't know what the hell they're talking about.

It's a joke to have mask scent only work against creatures, and also to have camo kits only work against creatures. Camo kits require some odd resources, and therefore should protect from a good amount of humanoid NPCs.

It's true their response to N'raas was that camo wasn't supposed to be working on NPCs. And yes, they probably will eventually make it not work on NPCs. But find comfort in the fact that /chargeshot for carbineer still doesn't apply to the 30s kd rule.

in other words, just because they know about a bug doesn't mean they will fix it any time soon, especially if it's a beneficial bug for an otherwise underdeveloped/unworking profession (^_^)

In answer to your last question "what has been the objection to it (if any)?", everybody and their mother objects to camo kits being ineffective against NPCs. If it's only going to work against creatures, it's just as useless as crafting 20-sided dice. We can get xp for making them, but there would be no real use for them.

My opinion is that Camokits is the highest point of safety, a master Ranger should be able to cross any terrain with minimal concern for his safety while wearing a camokit, plus having such people on great treks into the wilds would be very good, although usually we are again not needed because it is much more easier just to kill every critter a large group comes across. If there were actually situations where a group would find it better to sneak in with a ranger than blow everything up that would be great.
