Thread: Not much needed to be pretty sweet

Rangers do have some very nice things. The sad part is 2 almost useless lines.

I'll go line by line, as everyone does...

1- Wayfairing: An actual good line. People just don't know about our Camo abilities. My guild ask me all the time to Camo them, specially the BE and the artisan harveting hard planets. With experimentation, i can make kits in stacks of 18, which is very nice.

The line just need a little bit more, not much. Keep Camo kits effective on NPCs. I would increase inventory capacity (+10 per box). But the line is fine if Camo kits stay this way. Rangers just need to learn to use them.

2- Camp line: Ok, this is one of our 2 crap lines. Camps are useless right now: With vehicules and players cities, and the rarity of player rez, players heal in towns, not in camps. I think it's about time that BF can be healed in camps. Vehicule repair is a new must.

But many classes have a novelty line, a useless eye-candy line, so let this be ours. But then, give us more eye candies: why just camps? Let's craft other stuff from nature: Taxidermia comes to mind, we all want animal head trophies. But, to really fix it, merge it with the trap line.

3- Harvesting: Our good line. Creature info, more harvesting, a to-hit bonus, and a tracking system. Nice to hunt force sensitives, or babies for your CH friend.

Add a little candy in it, a ranger only-harvest, that you get randomly: When you harvest hides you have a random chance of a High-Quality Pelt. Meat gets you High-Quality Filet. And bones give Unusually Strong Bones. These rare parts can be used in making trophies, cloths, armor, food, and weapons.

4- The trap line. Mmmm.

Problem with trap line, is that the effect of a trap is ridiculous compared to the combat profession. We can stun a creature for 5 seconds!!! My buddy can Warcry for 30+ with clothing. We can increase status change chance!! Beurk, how about combat profession that actually KD things? Our traps are pale.

What this game needs, is crowd control (CC). I'm talking the good old Mez and Confuse classic spells. Give ranger a sleeping gaz trap: creature falls asleep until attacked again, or effect leaves (30+ sec at least please). And a confuse trap to make creatures attack each others.

Just a mez trap would fix ranger. By itself.

5- New line: if you go and merge traps and camps (into on ranger-craft line), then you free a needed ranger battle line: Give us a specific weapon, a natural one, like a bow. Craftable by weaponsmith using bones and wool and wood. But the ranger crafts his own arrows. As you get better, you get poison arrows, fire arrows, bleeding arrows. How strong should it be? Strong enuff to hunt with hit. Remember, it's not overpowered if you need to craft your ammo all the time. Damage depends on bow, but also arrows. Arrows depend on ressource quality, and experimentation.

If you really want to merge two lines I think Frontiering and Wayfaring would be for the best... being able to craft the different Camos and different camps in the same line would probably make more sense. Trapping is Trapping, you get trapping xp by trapping. Don't see how you could change this, especially because of how insanely easy it is to get trapping xp as it stands now.

Oh, and we don't need a weapon either. This is Star Wars... people hunt with laser weapons, not bows and arrows... adding a ranger weapon doesn't make much sense. You can bleed with other weapons

Great Ideas, I especially like the thing on causing a creature to sleep, as this helps others get by with out a fight(if such situations were needed, usually when large groups are together they just kill things).

Giving us the ability to craft some more things would be great, and combining those two trees would do good aswell. I personally feel that instead of a bow we need a special kind of hunting blaster, or atleast a crossbow. Bows to me just would look right in SWG, but I think a crossbow would be acceptable out in the wild.

Overall I agree with everything you said, its all good stuff that could help out.

Been giving the ranger weapon idea some thought. I think I've changed my mind a little bit. I don't think it's ever going to happen... but...

Make a large laser rifle, sort of like the T21 in a way. Make it high damage, like the commando weapons. It could use Heavy Weapons xp. Heavy Weapons is not exclusive to Commandos, since the BH's use it for their LLC progression. To even things out, make this weapon amazing against critters, but horrible in PvP. We don't want people becoming rangers just so they can use it in PvP.

A weapon like this, exclusive to rangers, would help to reach the goal the devs have supposedly set, for rangers to be Ultimate Creature Hunters.

Its in the things that the ranger does to a creature not in the amount of damage I think we should focus on. Giving rangers a special KD and some other things would go a long way in my eyes. Special Weapon or no we need some added combat bonuses atleast against creatures. I know against alot of the more adv creatures KDs dont work well on them, but maybe the Ranger KD could work great on all creatures, but not as much on NPCs and PCs.

Main problem when trying to come up with new things for a ranger, is that all skills that would seam logic are already done by others.

A ranger should: know creatures enuff to tame them... oh, right, CH.

A ranger should: Prepare meals from natural ressources... oh right, chefs.

A ranger should: apply first aid using plants and herbs.... oh right, medics.

A ranger should: harvest plants and wood.... oh right, artisans.

A ranger should: be a good sniper, knowing weak spots and using camouflage.... oh right, riflemen.

A ranger should: give his group better movement... oh right, squad leaders.
