Thread: Watered down resources?

Has anyone noticed that good organic resources seem to be very rare lately? I may be incorrect but it seems to be more difficult now to find good quality resources.

Recently a dev posted on the up comming crafting changes, here is a snippet:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The driving force behind a change to a fundamental system of this magnitude is the current state of the game economy. To put not too fine a point on it, the game economy is in poor shape. There are a few factors that contribute to the detrimental condition of the economy, and we are reviewing and assessing them all. Of these factors, one of the most significant is the ability for many crafters to easily maximize the attributes of items and equipment through experimentation.

Our main concern centered around the fact that with most master crafters all making the best equipment possible, there is very little variety on the market. It seemed to us that there were almost no hard decisions to be made during the experimentation process by the crafter, and none to be made by the consumer when purchasing these items. When a majority of the equipment on the server is top of the line, there is very little reason for customers to seek out new sellers, and new vendors find it difficult to break into the business.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My guess is that based on this post that the devs feel like its too easy for crafters to create high end items and they have adjusted the resource drops to correct this.

I have been hearing this for a while now, and I agreee with it. While I would like to see more of a variety of goods for sale, Ican't seehow adjusting the resource qualities will help. I get the theory behind it, but all I can imagine it doing is causing a flame/whine war greater in magnitude than anything else we have seen before.

I still fear for the Doctors who will not be able to buff into 3k range after tomorrow (Publish 7), and will have to explain this to everyone on their server. If they can't get good resources on top of it, they are in for a world of hurt in the flame department. Godspeed good doctors....

Fortunately, I feel rangers will be the class least affected by the crafting changes. For one, our items don't even HAVE experimentation, so no troubles there. Even if experimentation got implemented, it would probably only be one line, so it wouldn't matter. This change will cause resource prices to be higher; especially quality organics, so there's another benefite for us.

As far as other items losing their effectiveness, such as armor and weapons, rangers won't get hit too hard since we are not very item dependent as some other classes. Finally, we're used to being nerfed. We can take it. It would appear the crafters can't though. Yeesh! *_*

Rangers are getting nerfed in the sense that they can't sell their goods for as much, since they are generally lower quality than we are used to selling. This should even out eventually as the market settles after the inital drop of quality. However, this will lower the price of the goods going into the market, meaning Rangers don't have to make as much money off their resources to afford the goods....uggggg, I hate economics.

It will have the added bonus of making folks appreciate the uber equipment out there. As it stands right now, people EXPECT the best quality goods. Really, should everyone have 80% Adv Composite Armor? If the overall quality of items are lowered, it allows room for people to notice the high quality goodies.

Calc,

In fairness to the devs I may be way off base because basically the post above is really talking about how experimentation will be changed, but I'm interested to hear if other Rangers feel like good resource quality is getting harder to find. For my own benefit I went to swgcraft.com and scanned down the list of resources on my server and couldn't really see anything to getexcited about.

I respectfully disagree. Sort of.

If resource quality goes down, in an across the board manner, then prices will not be affected.

Case in point - hoohaa hides have been up to 1000 in whizbang. Post pub 7, they are at best 850 in whizbang. If they were selling for 25cpu pre patch, then after a while we will notice that 850 is the highest and prices will rise to the pre patch levels. It may take a while, probably weeks, but things will go back to the status quo.

Just my opine, to be taken with a grain of salt, or a rice ball.

This just in, http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=in_testing&message.id=8160#M8160

no change to crafting. Comes out, stays a day, goes away Wednesday morning.

I was under the impression that because resource quality will now matter much more for crafters, high quality organics will sell for more money than they currently do.. but I could be wrong.

I agree JB that eventually everything will stabilize and new Rangers wont know the difference where as the old timers will be able to sit back and tell the youngsters how good the resources used to be. The biggest problem I see in the short term is trying to convince my customers that they just cant get that good meat and hide like they used to. I guess I can always refer them to swgcraft.com to check things out if they don't believe it. You might also find it difficult to sell those mediocre resources until the crafters adjust to the new quality....

JB,

I was trying to convey the same idea as you, but my take on it was a tad different. We both agree that the market will change a little and will need time to adjust. You think prices will restabilize where they currently are, I thought they would restabilize at a lower level, but relatively, everything would be the same. It would be better if the stabilize at the current levels, otherwise peoples money will be "more valuable" and there will be far too many credits out there, instead of there just being way too many.

As for that breaking news..is that saying that the crafting changes are going in tomorrow as planned, but they will revert back to the current on Wednesday? If so, I can't wait to hear how mappy my Doc is....

I agree....my one post was explaining WHY this is happening, not confirming it. My bad.

Well, I just read the JustG announcement that they will revert the crafting changes from Pub 7. All I can say is that you could have knocked me over with a gnort. I guess the devs do listen but I don't understand why they gave in so easy especially when they clearly expressed that player crafted items were too powerful. Makes you wonder if they will attempt to address the issue in a more stealthier manner.
