Interesting, but to be honest as soon as I realised that I had hit the BH forum from your link my interest sank, I shudder at most of the posts in there to be honest.

Frankly it's a shame that Scout is a pre-req for BH at all....! The further most (some?)of them are away from me the better....

Just another BH whining for more power ... you would think they were all named Kirk.

I really wish Scout was not a pre-requisite for BH. Brawler would be a much better choice if you think about it. Then they would not go into our forums and whine.

Hello thank about it BH has to have scout. Isn't half of your profession "Tracking" people down. How are you going to track things down without the basic knowledge of a Scout.

Yes I know you have droids but shesh BH are not supposed to be purely Fighters.

They track with droids (I know you said it) so they should have a DE prereq (boy would both DE and BH love that). As fas BH being purely fighters, isn't that what the forum BH are aiming at?

Tracking an animal in the wild and a person using informants, database searches and knowledge of behavior are very different skills. The only thing the two have in common is the word 'Tracking'. The methods are not the same.

While a specific bounty hunter might have scouting interests, most should not be going through the scouting tree to achieve their skills. Mastering brawler or perhaps splitting their prerequisits across two other professions would be a better plan.

I couldnt have put it better myself.

The BH uses a network of informants, snitches, stoolpidgeons and droids to find their targets.

When i was a BH (thank god i left) the only things i used scout for was Terrain Navigation and camps to pull out a pet or a droid. Thats it.

Harvesting shouldnt really be in the BH purvey, now camps are no longer required, traps, they are useless against npc's and pc's.

Maskscent is pretty usefull in a pinch at the master scout level, thats it. There are really no applicable skills in Scout to make a BH a better BH (save TN)

I think a total revamp of BH is out of the question at this point, but I would change the requirements to Master Brawler and Master Marksman. All the BHs think they are or should be combat monsters, yet most BHs don't have any melee skills. A true master of combat (as they think they should be) should be able to fight under any conditions. I would also change out one of their lines for a melee weapon (or unarmed, but more like street fighting than tk). Thus, even at MBH, they would have more options as far as their fighting style goes, as they could choose to pick up 4300 in any elite combat prof.

My other thought on changing the BH tree is to give them a ranged line, a melee line and a heavy line in addition to the investigation line. The ranged line could have specials for rifles, carbines and pistols andthe melee line could have the same for melee weapons. Progress in these two lines would be based on combat xp - and lots of it.

Maybe this would make BHs way overpowered, but this way, they would have a choice about where they put their points. They could go for specials or they could go for defense, or they could go for mitigation, or whatever.

In addition, they would stop asking for fast trapping xp, fast camping xp, fast scouting xp - the things they don't really need -and no one would have to hear about their complaints about the things they don't really need.

Anyway, these are just a few of my thoughts on the matter. Will anyone listen to me? Of course not. For one thing I've been accused of being a complete crackpot. For another, I am a ranger, and no one listens to us.

I'll listen to you TalKurgan.

I think both your ideas and Calculus' are what need to happen.

The only thing I disagree with Calculus' plan is making them learn the unarmed line (unless they have to learn the entire tree). Too many professions already require unarmed. The best thing to do would allow an either-or case instead of a fixed line. Were this implemented, several other professions could benefit from that change as well.

The points may be basically valid... but half the reason for having scout as a pre-requisite for BH is game balance. It would be utterly demeaning for carbiner and pistoleer professions if a BH had enough skill points to master them as well. It would mean that masters in those professions would be extremely second rate (speed, accuracy wise etc. if not necessarily ability to play their profession) compared to a BH.

But most of thestatements I have heard are to make the BH master Brawler instead of scout. That would solve the problem. I, however, propose to make the BH master Unarmed (i.e. train in unarmed 4), attain Novice DE, and First Aid 4. Then they would have everything they need.
