Thread: How many Rangers actually use Credits?

I've just moved into Ranger and SL, and I've been doing a lot of work hunting Big Game with my team.

And then something wierd happened. I've found that I no longer need Credits.

What hapened was I was looking at some Bio-Engineered clothes, and didn't have enough for what I wanted. So I offered the tailor & his BE partner a trade of the clothes for the pick of Organics I had in my backpack. I ended up with a full set of BE'd clothes and an agreement to make BE'd uniforms for my squad, and he ended up with about 30K of various organics I had in my backpack (en masse squad harvesting brings in incredible amounts of material btw) and my agreement to bring him a bunch more stuff - specific qualities and locations even.

And I've now found it works for a lot of things. I want Brandy? I barter for Milk and good meat with the Chef.

Armour? What qualities do you need on Hides again?

Got killed and need a Medic fix? Or need some doc buffs? Can I interest you in this avian meat?

The only things I haven't figured out a way to barter for are Entertainer buffs/healing and shuttle travel. And hopefully the last will be barterable as well whenever the SE comes out.

Anyone else had this experience?

Most of the things I get are in trade, chef food in exchange for a "meat voucher" for example.

Pistols are where most of my money goes... although I decided to branch out a little and touch on other aspects of the game. Namely I bought two fusion generators and a factory. I got the factory so that I could start making crates of camps and traps and commo kits. The reson I did this was, A: It takes up less space in my inventory and B: Because I wanted to start making use of some of the Ranger skills that some how had fallen by the wayside in a defiant attempt to not let the skill points go to waste and C: Because I've never had a factory or power plant before and (finally) D: To make a little but of money on the side... everyone needs power right?

So basically I never really used much cash but thought what's the point in having the cash if I can't use it to enjoy more game aspects.

I get pre-sliced weapons andarmour, BE food and BEclothing and buildings free thanks to my good friends

Ispend most of money on tipping for buffs, heals and dances.

I end up giving alot of creds away because they are not needed to new players or other rangers needing some help.

If i didnt get everything given to me id spend most money on weapons and food. But id still expect to make alot of profit.

I could easily go barter system, but there are some holes. Most of my "customers" have me as their customer and sometimes "give" me things for keeping my prices lower then the insane auctioneers.

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

Right.

I personally have more money than I need, I do a lot of business and I repair and maintain weaps and armor, buy stims, food and BE clothes, other than that, If i see something that a friend could use, I pick it up for them.

I spend all my money on travel. I don't even clone anymore in the world of buffs and Doctor rezzes (crutches, I know). The most money I spent recently was one setting up my alt toon. She has expensive tastes.

As most of the credits I invest are put into weapons, yes I still need credits.

More or less exactly the same, good innit......

About the only thing I have to put my hand in my pocket to obtain would be weapons, and being a pistoleer they are not too expensive, at least not like the silly amounts of dough my Commando mate hands over on a regular basis...

I'm sorry. I've been off trying to rid Naboo of disease, one nuna at a time. What exactly are these "credits" you speak of? Perhaps I've been out in the wilderness too long.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

I use credits 'cause they're easy right now. Most people have an idea of how much they want to charge for things in credits, so I don't have to worry about figuring out an equivalent amount for barter.

Also, I rarely use food, I can't use armor (yet?) and I've never owned a stitch of bio-clothes. The only things I really spend any money on don't require my materials; weapons and the occasional crate of gabaki.

But no.. other than maintaining my house and the few expenses above, I'm fairly self-sufficient, and have little need for creds.
