Thread: Wookiee Ranger? Sounds like a cartoon...

Ya, Ranger is not as borked as some are, but it is a bit underpowerd and you have to sacrifice some skills that would otherwise be useful. You can make a good living on meat, it's a sellers market right now. Things could be better, but look in other places and you realize it could be very much worse.

Thanks for the welcome. I got a less-than-warm one over on the server forums.
I'm halfway through rifle IV in marksman, so I'll be starting my elite rifleman profession very soon. My scouting is definately falling behind. I'm trying not to sell any hides or bones because of the traps I'll need to make and use (which I'm having trouble with.. when should I use traps? If I use them before my first shot, they know where I am. If I use them after, .. well, there is no after, since my first shot kills 90% of the time)
When is a good time to go to Endor, or another planet?
I read a couple places about selling hide and bones for 3credits apiece on the Bazaar.. Is this still true?

And, I wanted to ask about getting a good group together. I'm friended with a Droid Engineer who only took up pistols to not be completely useless to us and a BH wanna-be who just made master marksman, but is stuck in scouting trying to get appretence xp (THIS seems like the hardest part of rangering.. the appretence xp)
Would you recommend joining a PA? Or is there an easier way of getting into a group? As such a lowbie, I heard that grouping can be bad for rangers, since everyone and their mother has scouting skill and everyone wants to set camp/harvest

900 cred missions on tat?? hmm. im not so sure u would be ready for secondary planets. But i hear lesser plains bols on dant are pretty easy to kill and the missions are like 1k creds. Or just group with stronger fighters and ask them if u can kill the lairs on harder missions. Thats how ive been helping my friends, though there are prolly faster ways.

Ride my speeder up
Dismount Speeder
Run to within ranger
Lay down
Take Cover
Headshot 2
switch target
Headshot 2
shoot lair
go to knee
Headshot 2 incoming enemies
shoot lair some more
Rinse, repeat.
Unless two spawn when I hit the lair, I'll never take a hit. This bowcaster is great. So I think I'm far above the 900 credit missions on Tatooine. I'm wondering if there's a cap on what they'll offer.
Towns, too, have an effect on what missions are offered, I believe. I've been hunting out of Mos Eisley and Anchorhead. Maybe I ought to try further north.. hm
I just want something a little more challening. Even the rebel missions I do are too easy. They won't offer me harder ones because, I guess, my skils appear low.. but come on

Well, its decided.
I started a wookiee scout in hopes that my profession would come to me, and I've finally decided. Screw the BH's, I'm gonna try the ranger tree.
Reading over a couple of the posts (disregarding the ones that look just plain annoying) it seems like the Ranger profession isn't as bad off as some others. So, I'm trying for Ranger/Rifleman. Bowcasters rock so hard 
Are there any other Wookiee's out there? What type of Templates are you guys using? Is Wookiee Roar useful to rangers at all? Our lack of armor is great now, plus with the bonuses from camo and such, will I ever take a hit?
I also think I've out grown Tatooine. My missions are only offering 900 credits, and I'm one-shot killing everything. Should I move? What planets are especially good for Rangers?
Moneywise, I see people saying Rangers can be profitable with their harvesting of nice hides and meat.. but I haven't noticed any. Is it because I'm not quite a ranger yet?
Finally, if there's any rangers or scouts on Starsider who'd like to talk, maybe try a hunt so I can learn the ropes a little better, I'd be appreciative. Thanks.

Ranger is not great, it is good. The tracking line is the meat of the profession. That said, I am glad you want to join up with us! You will find the forums to be a vast wealth of information if you know how to find it and who to ask (tell JB you hate BH). To make moey from hides all you need is an elite combate profession. Then you should see the money start rolling in, even with scout level harvesting.
The best planets to hunt on depend on you goals. Levelling? Dantooine, Dathomir, and Endor is the best, assusming you can get a group or a good buff. Harvesting? Purely depends on what type you are looking for, and what quality you need. Check out www.swgcraft.com to see what kind of quality the resoruces on your server are.
