Thread: Now this would make Trapping Worth using and not just a skilltree to grind for master status
Animals should be more easily scared away by big bangs, bright flashes and since ranger traps are meant to be at the high tech end of the scale, the right mix of chemicals.
If they are to be useful though they (IMHO) need to be actual fear/ warning shot type of effects for crowd control rather than a debuff which makes little practical difference.

While I would welcome an intimidate trap, it must be logical at least. Intimidation is instilling fear in your opponent. You could do this by roaring, making yourself look big, etc. But how could you do this with a small grenade?
You're not alone. I use my traps in every fight I can. Personally, I'd like AE versions of all the scout traps and expanded 'debuff' abilities. But that's me personally, older rangers probably want different things.
I use traps every hunt, solo or grouped. Last nite, I took two not new but rookie weapons users out. They shot, I trapped, they got xp..sigh... I harvested (xp is a thing of the past, I am sooooooo maxxed out).
Any new trap we get is kewl, but let's get what we got fixed. I use pdarts and glow wire... once in a great while ad mesh. Sonics and flares are for show, not real use.

I have found that the groups I usually find myself hunting with are all commandos or BH or TK and by the time I can get a trap out, they already have given it the status I was going to throw, or the mob is dead.
Traps would be much bettwe if they were their namesake: Traps. Not Ranger Greandes. Perhaps if the Traps incorporated some damage/wounds along with their status effects they would be a little more useful, but at the end of the day they are still grenades.
One of the biggest issues I have when hunting solo is drawing more mobs than I can handle (despite camo/mask scent) Wouldn't it be nice if we could set some sort of baited trap, that drew one mob from the herd? Wow, that might make rangers kinda useful, at least to ourselves.
we actually have a 'lure' trap on the Ranger wishlist, I think we all would like to see that.
On a side note, yes, since a lot of players are good enough to solo whatever you're hunting, your traps aren't very useful. That's not due to the traps, but because you as a whole aren't needed at all. If you're in a group that actually NEEDS your help in battle to win, your traps will be very appreciated to induce state effects without terrible HAM costs and on the first strike from 50m.
I knowI as a TKM/MR preferred fighting a critter that agro'ed me and had lowered melee defense and was stunned before it got to me. Sure I could have stunned it myself while it was close to me, but then I would have given up an attack round on a hit I wouldn't have to use for that purpose.
