Thread: *sigh* Why Does Everyone Hate Camps?

I had a very frustrating experiance yesterday. I vowed that I would not macro my way through the Frontiering tree from Ranger, but Im having little luck getting much survival XP alone, so yesterday I decided that Id take a break from wandering the wilderness and go group hunting in Coronet(Infinity is a small server, Coronet is the only place your guarenteed to find a group, unfortunatly).

After joining and leaving 11 groups in a row, I just left. From these groups, I had such loving comments as: "Camping is boring, just macro it, if we camp every two lairs Ill leave"(this from the groups only medic)
"F*ck off! No way were camping up, takes away too much time, Im only three boxes from my last holo prof!!!"
"Ur doing Ranger cos u wnt 2? lol, tard"
"Do what u want, you just get left behind"
and
"Piss off, fgt"(this in response to my "common lads, it only takes two minutes to max my survival XP in camp from a group this size")

I spend a lot of time camping while Im out hunting, and yet after a solid week of going out killing everything from Gubbers to Quenkers, Im still not even a quarter of the way to Frontiering 1, Im just getting really annoyed. Can anyone suggest ways to persuade groups to let me throw up a camp every couple of lairs?

I totally agree, although I don't tend to get so negative comments (just a straightforward NO!)

It seems the only time I get to camp in groups now is if the entire party has been completely trashed - and even then they just want seem to sit down for a few seconds, heal quick, and go.

Fair enough I suppose. They're looking at how much they paid for that buff and want to maximise the earnings from it. *shrug* but it does get annoying.

The only times I regularly get to camp with groups is for pretty low level characters who aren't buffed and who still want the Star Wars experience.

PS - Not a ranger yet- but will be shortly!

Ya, welcome to the lonely life of a Ranger. The last vestage of true honor among a universe of Holofiends. Now you know why I think of us as the TRUE Jedi in this game...

I've never had the experience of being laughed at for being a Master Ranger yet...on the contrary i've gotten some very nice messages about my choice of proffesions. The camping issue can be a real pain if you tend to not "grind" it out. My advice on this is to find a group/PA of role-players, more than likely they will LOVE to sit in your camps and tell stories of their hunts and exploits within the galaxy.

Great choice in professions by the way, good luck attaining the Master status, it can be a long hard road but I think it is well worth it in the end.

I used my camps all the time. I raised ch at the same time, so I would tame up a full batch, and then train and release them while in my camp. I still had to just sit and camp out my last skill box. Yes, I admit it I tumbled my way through my last skill box. Im so ashamed. Even using camps alot, the exp curve compared to the other ranger trees is way off. I wish they had all leveled together, but that is just not the way it goes.

Set up a camp and go fishing. You'll be amazed at the amount of visitors you'll attract.

I can second OberSenf, and to expand....

I have tried to camp just outside a town near water and fish. write a macro that says "Help me with xp, run thru my camp on your way by" and place it in a hot key. When people are close I just hit F9, helps a ton. I also got lucky with a guy that was holo grinding med xp by flaming a pet and healing. I ask if he would like a little company and a 100m run out of town. We sat in camp, I crafted tents and traps (much as practice) that also give you Survival xp and made level II very quickly with company

Hope these ideas can help

There is one thing I hate worse than grinding, and it's having others try to drag me into their grind. You know... come sit in my camp. Or come stare at my empty vendor. Bah!

I just don't understand people who would rather impose on others to sit in their camp, strictly for the purpose of getting survival xp, rather than resort to what they consider "grinding". You are "grinding" either way... admit it! You're not sitting in a camp because you need to, you're doing it just for xp. There are, in fact, very few situations in the game that call for the use of a camp. So why cheese your friends off by imposing on them in the process?

If you are determined to do Frontiering without grinding (I did... well mostly that is) then go fishing (and mollusk gathering). If fishing isn't your cup of tea then just admit to yourself that you are grinding and get it over with. Pick some day that you have to do some work around the house and just make yourself a new tent every 15 min or whatever and by the end of the day you'll be done with it. Or be done with it even sooner by getting a huge stack of hide and a huge stack of bone and metal and just make tent after tent in practice mode. After all... this is the whole reason there is a practice mode button, is it not?

Yes. This is what I did for a time. If you have the money, just offer to pay some entertainers to come sit in your camp for a bit and dance and play music. Place it close enough to the city so that people may see it and pass through. And if you have a band with some dancers having some fun and chatting it up then you may convince some people to hang around a bit. I went through my frontiering tree in no time doing this. Then again, this was months ago, before the Holo grind turned the population into zombies and entertainers would be willing to do this for 15k per person. Good luck bud.

Your friendly neighborhood Ranger,

Reyune
