yes - it does help, but it only works if creatures are spawning. I spot on average 1 albatross everytime I hunt things between theed and kadara (it's still sort of a thrill to see them listed on areatrack).

GDK's and NPC Jedis might be a different story though -- the increased player population on such planets as Dant. and Lok means that the natural spawns on these planets has decreased.According to TH (see the dev tracker), you can jump start an area's spawns by taking missions from a local mission terminal, but if you're on Dant. or Lok, and your hunting GDK's or NPC Jedis in a region that is removed from the effective radius of a mission terminal, then it's likely that that area will be completely barren and areatrack will be useless.

I have found that it is a BIG help when hunting in a defined area (Krayt Graveyard for example). True, you could be able to pick one up using a speeder, but the trick to finding these things is keeping track of the surrounding MOBS and when the spawns change. In this respect, a ranger is more attuned to the surrounding enviroment and spawn patterns. i.e. when worts and kreetles turn into Dragonets and Giant Sand Beetles, a Krayt is sure to be around someplace (4 out of 5 times, I'll be the first one there too).

Last night..I used it with some guild mates to find an awesom Rancor nest. Harvested 12K hide! It was nice to see my fellow players following me, trusing their Ranger to find them a good hunting spot.
And it felt good to be able to deliver that.
