Thread: RIS the (mostly) complete guide
Since I've seen a bunch of posts here from my fellow Rangers on the RIS quest and it's components I thought I'd post as much information here as I have. I've been following this quest since it was first announced last month - and so far have done everything solo so please bear that in mind when I relate my experiences![]()
First - here is the link to what it looks like for all that are interested :

There is a post on the Armorsmith forums that quotes the text from the TC patch - but I can't find it right now.
THIS QUEST - AS OF THIS DATE - IS NOT LIVE. It is only on TC currently and is expected to go live with the November patch. That said - due to cracking the patch code we do know what the loot requirements are. The hermit referenced in the text is has not been foundby players on TC to my knowledge.
From the quest text there are four rare loot drops required for a master armorsmith to even obtain the schematics (in addition to normal hides and metal presumably). Beyond this there is debate as to whether the armour will still require these loot bits or whether they are just used to unlock the schematics and it works like every other crafted object thereafter. We won't know until the first smiths actually get the schematics. The info on the drops (as much as I know) is as follows:
NOTE: these are all LOOT not harvests. They look like hide containers with no numbers or stats.
Peko Peko Albatross Feather
This beastie is a rare spawn on Naboo. They've been reported everywhere on the planet it seems, but are most often found near the coasts to the North and South. The most consistent sightings seem to be along the rivers to the north of Theed.
When I got mine I followed a river out of Theed and areatracked to a spawn point that eventually gave rise to at least 4 of the birds.
Fighting it was tough for me as a very junior rifleman. It is 100% resistant to kinetic attack, therefore my pet was doing no damage and had to be controlled very tightly to keep from running around. The bird has an area combo special that drops four or so states on the immediate area. It will instantly deathblow on incap too, and warps around like all the other huge creatures in the game.
I'd bring a commando with a flamethrower next time, but I dropped three with bleeds and stun damage eventually (my grauls took a huge beating though). I got a feather from all the ones I could loot - and it seems that the drop rate is pretty high from other's experiences.
Woolamander Harrower Bone Fragment
Camp-fest Begin! Seriously, there is only one place in the world where these things are found - the Temple of the Woolamander on Yavin 4 (waypoint's available from an NPC in the northern outpost I believe). There are a grand total of two in the far right side (as you are facing the door of the temple). Don't mistake them with "woolamander harvesters" - it's not the same thing.
The up side here is that their pathing and social assist in the temple is pretty bad, so you can sneak in and just take on the harrowers. Their bag of tricks includes area poison - but because there are two of them side-by-side they almost always poison each other and proceed to beat the tar out of one another.
The down side is that they drop at least 1 in7 times (I got 2 in rapid succession after killing 14), and the respawn time is just over an hour. Now that the info is out the place is frequently camped - bring a high damage party if you want to fight for it, or go at off-hours perhaps?
Scales from a Giant Dune Kimogila
These fellows aren't a great deal of fun solo - but doable. They are found on Lok. There is one static spawn at a town besieged by kimos (about4 Km south of Nym's stronghold) - he shows up with a red-con NPC BTW and respawns every hour or so. Otherwise they are found around the Imperial Outpost (usually about 3K north in my experience) or around the volcano in the SE of the map.
These things warp like no tomorrow and have a potent area disease attack. Given the lack of entertainers on Lok this can be a bit of a problem. I usually try to hit them from long range, 9 times out of 10 it will do the disease thing right away and not close until afterwards. Use a pet to distract it. 100% to heat and acid, so pistoleers are kinda SOL here. They spawn alone, but if you can run it into anything else around it will probably fight them and let you plink away from range. Melee guys - I don't know what to tell you, sorry ![]()
I had a heck of a time getting a drop from these - I'm guessing I went through 15 or so before getting one from a random spawn.
Recluse Gurk King Hide
OK - I have not been able to get this one yet - despite doing my level best to drive the species to extinction. There is one static spawn that I know of - at a stone hut west of the Imperial Outpost - but that is so camped on my server it's not funny. The respawn seems about 2 hours as well, which doesn't help at all.
These things can be found in random lairs too - not the mission-spawned ones to my knowledge, but the "wild" ones. There isn't much pattern that I can discern - the only common observation is that it must be a "nest" lair, not a rock or anything else. Some say that the nests that spawn feral gurks are the ones you want - but I've had kings come from both.
Regardless - here's the scoop. Unlike most lairs I've encountered, gurk lairs spawn a lot per wave, and can spawn without doing damage to the lair itself. Therefore if you clear the visable spawns and wait a sec they will respawn without ever tapping the lair. At a complete guess I'd say 20 gurks per lair is a good bet. Anyway, once you clear all these waves out - about three I think - and damage the lair down to the last 1/8 or so, one of three things happens (see below). Watch the lair closely as you get down to the last bit of the lair bar - if you see movement inside stop shooting. The last spawn actually walks out of the lair and doesn't just appear in the area. If you are shooting without watching you'll aggro them and it could be touch and go.
One possibility is that you get nothing - it happens. Second is that you'll see the movement and 3-4 crazed gurk destroyers will come out with a pack of shaggy gurk youths. No king here - these guys are actually easier that the other gurks but will deathblow. Third thing is that a recluse king will come out - perhaps alone, or with destroyers and/or youths.
The king isn't hard - just the numbers cause a problem. Since getting an AOE attack it's much easier, otherwise just use standard pulling tactics for a BAF lair and it should be fine.
The Hermit
This is conjecture at this point - based on what info has been leaked out. The hermit is going to be on Dantooine - he's not there now trust me. He's supposedly a Bothan Male and Cinco has given the hint that he loves the seclusion of the mountains - but lives close enough to civilisation to take advantage of its conveniences (paraphrased). I personally think he'll appear at one of the static POIs there, but that's me.
That's whatI know (or can think of at this point in time) - good luck everyone. ![]()
Thanks for the update on this Jakkin.
Making a living as a Ranger is proving to be a bit of a challenge. I'd love to take part in a RIS resource hunt and camp next to the hermit when he actually appears in the next patch. Is the idea too far fetched?

Any suggestions on what we should sell these items for to armorsmiths?
Well - right now it's a complete unknown. Some smiths are willing to pay insane amounts (500K+) on spec that this armour will be great and makable with normal resources once the quest is complete.
Most smiths however are taking a wait and see attitude. The couple of offers I've seen to the general public are sort of profit sharing - where the smith offers to some split of the proceeds from sale of the armour to the folks that bring in the components. Either that or the smith offers the boots (crafted as the last stage of the quest) to the person that provides the components.
Many smiths are preparing for the eventuality that the components remain the same after the quest is complete. Taking composite as an example - this means 20 bone fragments, 20 gurk hides for the segments, at least 20 feathers and as many as 60 for the layers (1-3 per segement) and 9 kimo scales (one per final combine). Apparently the layers are usable to reduce encumbrance on the standard armours too - meaning feathers for that even if the RIS isn't that great.
Long story short - sell for whatever you can. I'd sit on them until the quest is live and people have a good idea of how popular the items are. The suits will sell for huge amounts likely (especially if that many drops are needed per suit) so bear that in mind. In all probability most will do the quest and only make suits for those that bring the components in themselves. It won't likely be a stocked vendor item.

Your template sounds like mine - my advice to you is to shoot up the counter-sniping rifle tree to level 3 asap. This gives you an area of effect attack that is just super for mass killing of lairs. Then you need to develop a good relationship with an armoursmith, a BE, and maybe a chef and a doctor.
The smith needs wooly hides in huge quantity - at as much as 20 cpu on our server. The BE needs meat, eggs, and milk. Chef needs milk and docs need good quality herbivore and avian meat.
*whispers* milk can be found in piles of trash in the sludge panther town on Talus ![]()
Essentially I've gone a long time without needing much money by a) having no overhead = no house, and b) bartering for everything. My armour is in trade, some vit packs and enhancements in trade, crates of stims in trade. The only thing I need money for is for weapons - and I go without power-ups to save the wear and tear and some consumables (food and spice) that I only use when I have to.
As for the RIS - I don't know the mon(k)ey making potential here - it'll be driven by popularity more than anything else. If you want to quest for the parts it's actually a money-losing proposition, as you could be getting saleable items during that time you are wandering Lok or Naboo (unless you are lucky and can combine them).
Drop me a mail in-game if you wish - there are a few of us rangers that are starting to form a loose association. ![]()
Alrighty - update for those that don't read the Armoursmith boards![]()
The hermit in question is located at -6806 6022 on dantooine (by the abandoned rebel base in the FAR NW corner) (thanks to Drummerboychris for posting this info last night) He's static.
Here's the URL to the first thread that shows off the boots you make as part of the quest.

Up side appears to be that you only need one set of the creature drops per piece - and there are nine pieces total for the suit. Now the early experimentation with the layers (requiring the Peko Peko feather) show you can get layers that can reduce individual normal armour encumbrances by 30 points.
Enterprising rangers - start tracking and harvesting Peko Peko Albatross. It's the krayt tissue for the armour set. Best of luck.
Pricing is still up in the air. The rest of the suit requires either named or planet-specific resources (or both) and will be just as hard to get (with worthwhile stats anyway). I think RIS may be one of those BYO components things.
Yeah, it does look pretty fugly.
Hey, what is RIS? Does it stand for anything? Or is RIS just RIS? (It annoys me when people use abbreviations without making it clear what it is they're abbreviating.)
Not live?
Then who is the guy in the hut near the rebel base on Dantooine who told me I was wasting his time, I was not an armorsmith?
Or is he gone now?
Being a non armor type, and I seldom work on contract, I was just wondering.
