Some info re the changes in armour, related to the CURB, have sneaked out into the wild:
TH's In Development post:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Developers&message.id=56866
From the WS forum:
http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Combat%20Upgrade:%20Armor%20System%20Enhancements%20-%20Faction%20Armor
While most of us seem to prefer, or at least espouse, going unarmoured and unbuffed, does anyone see any benefits / drawbacks for the profession in the above?
Me, I'm a simple sort so I probably just didn't understand the big words, but I was having probs working out whats' happening to kinetic resists? I'm assuming that beasties will still tend to whale on our a$$es in a kinetic stylee??
(Caveat: It's in development, so it might change between then and now or head off down a cul-de-sac and never come out again, but, jic, y'know?)

I dig the rebel armor, and the fact that the scout armor is going to be in the game is sweet. We shall see what happens i guess.
cheers.

TH and Tiggs recently asked all Alpha Members not to talk about the CURB stuff even if its in relation to stuff that has already been released so cant say much other than what i contained within those documents.
Basically the docs are highlighting the fact that "While the names of the stats will remain the same, we have devised a new number range and backend meaning".
Basically put most creatures (think they are wanting to change some creature damage types in the future) will remain kinetic, armour will still have kinetic protection. Its just instead of having a set of armour like:
Special Protection:
Kinetic: 70%
Protection:
Energy: 20%
Blast: 2%
it will be like:
Gernal Protection: 5000
Kinetic: +1000
Energy: -2000
Acid: -3000
Blast: +100
That sort of thing. Basicaly you have a general rating for your armour suit, then special values subtract or add onto the general value. The sum of the special (+/-) and the general protection rating equals the protection the armour will give.
Now i cant say what type of armour we will be getting or if we will be getting any at all (recon/assualt/battle/none) but the idea highlighted in the document shows thateach type of armour will have a set number of visual art sets (so for instance comp and bone are two types of armour visual art). Theoreticallyyou could have a set of armourusing each of the visual arts and have the same protections in each set.As thedocument says, combat will now be made up of lots of different looking armour sets, not just everyone wearing the armour that has the most protection and same look (everyone running around in comp).
Everything ive said here has come directly from the TH's dev post i read before i posted so im not leaking any new information because i checked
Just hope that clears up a few things because i wasnt sure what question you were asking.

LOL, np. I knew the CURBies wouldn't be able to say anything but thought that us mere mortals might like to see what TH's mentioning re armour etc.
Ahhhh, just think, the days of spam in a can might one day be a fond memory...

I personally like the Rebel Faction Battle Armor (med. type).
I think it looks the best... especially the helmet.
I've always thought Rangers should have a specific armor... with the face mask similar to the Reb Med. Armort look.
Like on Tatooine, we'd need to have something like that to survive a sandstorm.
My hope for SWG continues to build... and I think the game will seem fresh and exciting if everything SOE is planning works out.

I've thought about the same, a Ranger specific armour. Since many of us don't wear much armour, if at all, it'd needn't be especially powerful - maybe on par with the new 'scout' armours, or even at a lower level. Actually, I really don't care much for regular armour stats. Wearing Ranger armour could just give us a camo bonus and extra resistance against creature attacks. I'd wear it.
As for how it looks, I've always thought of it being pretty subtle. Almost rag-tag looking, second handish. But still cool. Not shiny like all that other crap, but worn and rugged as it should be. Sort of like the new rebel armour, but with the majority of it hidden by cloaks and clothes. It'd have to look like it belonged to a Ranger.
Maybe I'll try to rig some up in 3DS Max sometime.
....Of course, I still dream of hunting camps, plantable traps, and dynamic tracking. And the odd lodge.

What Owen said. You don't want your Combat Alpha team to get in trouble, do you? So don't expect any info from us
.
Edit: Or discussion. Sorry
