Thread: Camoflage and its Functionality...

Okay, so I am a newly minted Master Ranger as of a few days ago. I tried it during the CU respec and liked it but never really gave it long enough to feel out the profession thoroughly (I was like a kid in a candy store during CU respec and was a new profession or combination of professions almost every day. My friends all laughed at me but I got to try almost everything out at least briefly, letting me eliminate a lot of professions that are not of interest to me). Now I want to really play with Ranger.

So, with that all said, what exactly does Camoflage do or not do? I have been running all over Dathomir with Camoflage on and thought it was offering me the ability to avoid aggro, but it seems to me that much of that aggro avoidance is really nothing more than the CL difference between me and the mobs I encounter. In other words merely a function of the CU changes. Does Camoflage actually help? If so under what circumstances, when do I want to use it. Does it help others? or is it (like much of Ranger) thoroughly borked and I can ignore it as an aspect of the profession.

Anything you can provide by way of response is appreciated. Yes, I have read many of the stickies attached to this forum, but so much stuff has changed since the CU that it seems to me most of those stickies are somewhat suspect in their usefulness and probably need to be rewritten.

Thanks

I would argue that Camo really has no true effect and others will pst situations where they believe it has helped a great deal but there has been no conclusive testing as of yet. We would need someone with a CL 80 combat toon and a CL 80 Master Ranger to to set up specific and repeatable trials on the same server to even attempt to determine what beenfit is coming from CL, what is coming from Camo, and what is just sheer luck factor

I think that being a combatant and walking up to an opposite faction NPC is pretty telling...

There, I didn't let you down .

Its true that being a high CL will help you in avoiding most natural aggro, aslittle will aggro you unless it is within your CL in general. (Blue, White, Yellow, Red, Purple).

Dathomir is actually the best place in the game to test the usefullness of it, as there is a lot of higher end CL's wandering around the planet, and/or will pop up without a moments notice. Apply it and wander around the NS stronghold for instance... or if you choose, grab a mission of something like voritors and see how much you can wander around in near the lair itself.

Walking will draw less attention from critters than will zipping by on a swoop. One way to see the effects of camo is to not use it and then take notice of how many creatures stalk you.

I find your situation both unfortunate and puzzling. With my cammo onI never draw agro, regardless of the critters CL. NPC's dont seem to notice me untillI attack even if its a bounty mark.

It never works for me on Kashyyyk. Once the Critter is about CL 72+ you can't avoid them. A real waste of skill points.
