OK... it's taken me a fair bit of nerve to even think of starting this, but...
Proposal: That an area, or areas, on each planet be set aside as No Build Zones, being an area non-contiguous to existing Non Player City No Build Zones. This being to preserve the working environment of the Scout, Ranger and associated professions, from the continued encroachment of urban and industrial development.

Ladies and gentlemen,
I am, putting it mildly, disgusted and ashamed at the wanton abuse of the wilderness areas of many of the planets in our galaxies.
Disgusted. Yesterday I travelled to the further reaches of Dantooine, visiting many of the sights and places of interest that that planet has to offer. Fine open grasslands, wetlands with abundant fishing, mysterious mountain heights with all manner of hidden wonders.
A haven for the hunter, Dantooine is also home to several indiginous tribes. The Mokk, Janta and Dantari to name but three. It was on my travels to one of the villages of these primitive but brave peoples that I was finally humbled by the crass insensitivity of our fellow players.
There, hard against the remains of a Dantari village, was a sprawling metropolis. Row upon row of Naboo style housing, crowding out the small native encampment. Fires still burned in hearths, but the shy Dantari I fear had long since been driven off by the urban tribesmen.
/shake head
Disgusted. It is barely a week since I took it upon myself to head out to Naboo leading a small hunt. Our prey, the fambaa and kaadu of that planet are known for tehir prodigious breeding, their ability to range over bast distances and the challenges they can present to the enthusiastic hunter. To say nothing of the rich resources they present us with after a successful conclusion...
/pause 2;
But friends, I was disgusted. Worse than disgusted, I was near broken hearted, to see spreading off into the distance, row upon row of mineral harvesters, factory units of varying sizes, gas and other energy plants. For almost three and a half kilometres from the nearest city hall, these abominations spread in all directions, only interupted in their relentless advance by the green belt around Theed, preserving, fortunately, the splendid falls there and some small sliver of grassland.
/pause 5;
Only last week I saw fields of factory units on Dathomir.
We have reached so far, only to stoop so low.
/shake head
/frown
/strongvoice
And, friends, I am ASHAMED. I too am the owner of a number of small properties, set in the wasteland of Tatooine. Nestled as they are on teh side of a hill there is little chance of our village spreading, but even today I noticed that our small, discreet settlement now runs into the industrial lots adjacent to another small village nearby. It is possible, I am ashamed to say, to travel some distance out of Mos Espa and never be out of sight of house, factory or extractor.
So I do not stand before you today a blameless paragon, but a self confessed sinner myself. I do not set myself up as being better, more righteous than any of my fellow players, but I have to ask that you support a petition to have areas of the planets set aside as non developent areas, open to all, but where no building can take place.
Else where goes the nuna? The womp rat? All those novice targets fondly remembered by seasoned players as 'yard trash'? And where, my friends, as the development spreads into previously untouched lands, the kimoglia? The graul? Our friend and posterboy for hunters the whole galaxy wide... the fiercely proud and proudly fierce Bull Rancor?
Where too, in days to come, will elder rangers train novice scouts and hunters to track, to trap and to bring down their prey?
If we do not act NOW to prevent this wholesale erosion of our precious environment, OUR work space, Ladies and Gentlemen, I ask you, where hunts the hunter?
Therefore I ask you to /sign this kitten, to save a part of the landscape and preserve the viability of our profession in times yet to come.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the proposal before this house is "That an area, or areas, on each planet be set aside as No Build Zones, being an area non-contiguous to existing Non Player City No Build Zones".
**Title amended is it contained an offensive word**
**Offensive word removed from body of text and replaced with something furrier and more cuddly**
**Notmal threadhijacking, hawtpant wearing service will be resumed as soon as possible**

I too wish for no build zones. I also wish for areas where mechanical vehicles will not travel. Either on foot or by mount should some places be traversed. There is nothing to fear in the wilds since you can zoom on your bike to your goal and then zip right back. I enjoy having to either fight or avoid the things that lie in my path. Not just blast through them.

"You're either part of the problem, or part of the solution" Sir!! Vote AYE!! Or watch as your precious hunting grounds are consumed by tailors and their hawtpant factories. Ohyeah! I've seen the fibreplast extractors, the mineral harvesters, the rows and rows of factory units churning out these foul garments....
and yeah, I know, there's been other posts, which is why I quoted the best of them, rather than just necroing it

Oh and btw the technology for invisable off radar is in game. And with the "fog" around "The Village" and "my overuse of quotes". We have seen that they could make a ranger only area.

I also survey for folks, and make sure I can drop a harv in the area before I send them a waypoint. Believe me, there's tons of no-build areas in this game.
(And some that are technically buildable but too uneven to build on.)

While I agree with what you say, why did you make it a petition? It would be nice to have areas with nothing built in them but I just can't get over the title. AAAAHHHH!

i see your point, and raise you 2 more.
i too am very unhappy with the over population of some planets. namely tatooine, naboo, corellia, and worst of all dantooine. these enviroments have been cluttered with factories harvesters and cities to the brink of cramping out wildlife.
but thank god for endor, yavin4, and dathomir. sure harvesters can be placed here, but there is hardly room for them anywhere and you rarely see them. these are the offical ranger planets where we hunters/explorers/trackers are truly at home. so really, we all have 3 non-build zones as large as a planet!
still, the limit to number of player cities on lok and dantooine needs to be decreased so i will sign for that. i doubt it will happen though. if dant and lok were already at the limit for player cities and they lowered it some cities would have to go, angering thier builders.
one more thing. fellow rangers, why do you scorn petitions? they can make a differance you know.

Why do we scorn petitions? Because there an overused tool that doesnt make a difference. Therea cry from a poster who wants attention. They are the belief that the squeeky wheel gets the oil. And it really does. There an easy way to infate post counts with /sign's. I didnt like them on the playskool WWII Online forums. And i don't like seeing them here. The way to get things done is not to complain with no solutions. Its to work with the correpondents come up with a plan and hope that someone at SOE goes "Well that would be easy to do".

I totally agree.
I hate trying to escape to the wilderness for peace of mind, and not being able to get away from housing as far as I go....
Increase the no-build zones. I remember at launch, it was nice, a good amoutn of facilities for realism, but not too much that it crowded the environment.
As for Dantooine, on my server and surely all servers its become a polluted planet where every one dumps there vendors. My friend had an awesome idea for a "Dantooine Revamp".
Start making the waters dirty and polluted, the grassland dark and ugly. Create roaming bands of agressive-to-all thugs that waylay those who come into their path (a la the Sidhe Court from DAOC). Give weapons and scattered pieces of armor to the indigenous folk, since their contact with the civilized world hasresulted in cultural diffusion and trade. Have the natives raid the outposts in big numbers, killing any in their path. He thiugh it would be kind of cool to havesomething like that.Could be a live event or something?
just some thoughts.

I have a rather thriving town on Dantooine near the Imperial Starport. My town was originally on Naboo. But i wasnt one of the first 10. So I went and planted on Dant. I had decided against going there because of exactly what you said. It would be suicide for our crafter non-fighters. The fighters in my group wanted to go. Long story short they left and formed their own guild. In the end i started a town on dant they started on on Corelia. Backwards of each others goals. But thanks to dantooines heavy population our crafters can plant harvesters without much fear of being attacked. On the flip side we as a guild pretty much leave dantooine when we want to go do missions because the lag's so bad. But hey my merchants sales are way up. So its a double edged sword. If i had to do it over again i'd probaly have put us on Talus
