Why we won't be seeing a revamp anytime soon - economics.

We are the 4th least played profession. One of the professions lower than us is Jedi Crafter - like who is gonna play that?

Anyhow, we simply don't have the numbers to make it feasible for the devs to devote a whole lot to "fixing" us. That's not to say we won't get fixed. We may, in dribs and drabs. CU was how long ago and /examine is still all gacked up - not a priority fix as it only effects a very small minority of the players. If we had a massive contingent, like BH, we could scream and yell and get what we wanted. SL is getting fixed for another reason however.

There is a post out there asking which Devs play and what do they play. Who is that masked man playing SL? Rule 2 after economics is keep the suits happy. Want to guess why SL is getting a revamp?

Frankly, I can see most professions getting fixes and tweaks and poor little Rangers just sitting around broke for a very long time. The Devs have about made us useless - camps are of no use, we aren't stealthy, anyone can use camo (stupid artisans, may they all be eaten by durnis), no wait time on vehicles, examine is broke, areatrack is bugged and buggy... I can go on and on.

I could say that even though we are broken I am still raking in the cash. But that is because I have a decent working profession to pair with the broken Ranger. If harvesting goesbutt up then I am hosed. It's buggy now, but 90% of the time I can harvest, so I will not complain too loudly.

Just my opine.

So when is the next Fan Fest? Don't the devs go there? Maybe, just maybe we should ask them publicly WHY we can't get some love....if not Love, some Like would be nice. I'd like to berate them Drill Instructor style. If we're not getting anything anyway, why hold back?

lol drill instructor style... that would be fun. JB to a degree is right. If ranger was as popular as Jedi or BH we would get more attention. However we also have to realize... we arn't exactly broke right? Yea a few traps do not work... our camps are more for looks than anything else... but do our skills work? Can you track, harvest organics and our camo kits do technically work right?

We just want more than what we have been given esp considering our skill point cost is higher than any other profession. That and we deserve more because we are the coolest profession in the game... I don't see Jedi's with cool force field camps do you?

As Maxanto pointed out already, your theory of economics is flawed. The simple economic reason is to build a better game as a whole. Fix Ranger and you draw back some vets, you plug up a profession that is hemmoraging people, and you may actually draw some new customers by having people tell their friends how "cool" it is to play a Ranger. Look at the professions who've been getting the most work done recently-- Creature Handler and Squad Leader, both of which are situated towards the side of the "least mastered." Your economic theory would exclude them from getting work for the same reasons, which would imply the theory is (at least in part) flawed.

In the end though, your opine doesn't really help anybody in this instance. Those who think like you already do so. Those who don't will simply point out the flaws in your theory. It has no tangible effect on the developers of this game, who will fix us or not fix us at their sole whim and NOT because of any pessimism. The only people this will have any effect on at all are those who might be more "middle of the road" or those people who are newer to Ranger. Your pessimism could make them drop Ranger, or leave the game entirely, if they believe you.

In the end, I never understand why people post this kind of stuff JB. I'd expect it from others, but not from you. It's something that's been said before, it's unproductive, and there are gaping wholes in the logic, and it could only possibly have a negative effect on the community and provide no tangible positive benefit. In other words...what purpose does it serve. If it is merely to voice your opinion, you have said this before in other threads. If it is to try and convice people to fix Ranger, it likely would have the opposite effect, if it is to serve your community, it only goes to hurt it.

In the end, you have just as much right to post here as I do. But I don't post every opinion I have because not all of them are (in my opinion) benefitial to the Ranger profession. For example, I hate people who drive slow in the fast lane. Loathe them with every bone in my body. But that really doesn't help the community does it? Which is why you won't see me creating a thread to announce that in.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

The Devs have stated many times that they believe SWG to be about the GCW (the primary PvP aspect of the game) and the Social Aspects. From that vantage it makes sense that Squad Leader got a revamp given that the Devs have been trying to improve the GCW since before the CU and the GCW is seen as a primary role of SWG. Ranger is not even on the Radar as far as the GCW goes as of yet. I remember responding to forums on the GCW about Squad Leader from the devs in the past I don't recall ever being ask by the devs about Ranger and the GCW

Economics could just as well be use to argue that fixing ranger should be the top priority.

Basally different people play MMO's for different reasons. Some play to experience what commence there is and then move on. Some look for the thrill of PvP, but they sooner or later move on when a better game hit the market. Adding more Jedi Contend, or a FRS or fixing the GCW will only keep thoughts players a little while longer.
Other players are in a game for the long haul, but it is the committed long term players that get driver out of a game throe broken profession, messed up player economies, bug filled interfaces, and the like.
If the long term players was kept happy with the game then the player base would slowly increase, and the larger it became the faster it would grow.

So in economic terms, fixing ranger and other broken professions will be the key to making sure that the game is around is 5 years.
